Law makers shouldn't be law breakers! This is the sign of a broken democracy. More shit will come out about the 'non-party' that will be evermore embarrassing.

I wonder when the Tory party infighting and turning on each other will begin for real? It is pretty obvious that the Tory backers want rid of the Blonde Bumblecunt, the Daily Heil doesnt run headlines like it is at the moment without an ulterior motive. He has served his time and is now a liability and he and they know this. He needs to be dumped soon to give their next chosen one a run in for the next election. Truss or Sunak seem to be the front runners, both equally as mad as a bucket of frogs, but Truss has less shit from the fan on this debacle so looks the most likely. The cabal of BB, Carrie, Carries best mate Allegra and hubby Forsyth (Spectator), Sunaks (Best man was Forsyth and they are all godparents to each others kids), et al seems doomed now?

History will tell you that any power based on personal power, fawning acolytes, leadership charisma, etc is doomed to ignoble failure and in this modern word it happens even quicker than in the past. Every student will know Charles Handy power culture model - the spiders web - and we are seeing it played out in real life!

Feel like I've mentioned this nearly as many times as I've mentioned the fact that refs let too much time be wasted in the last 10 minutes of matches, but...

They have an 80 seat majority. Any Tory MP with any sense realises they are completely squandering it. At the next election people will ask what they did with what is essentially a blank cheque, and the answer with Boris at the helm increasingly looks like 'fuck all'. They still have time to change that if they have a leader who is popular, has drive and understands this. Would suggest Sunak probably does.

This is a genuine issue for Boris. The public is used to being lied to by this government, but being laughed at is a more difficult pill to swallow.

Tory ministers and MPs will also be at the end of the road in their willingness to go out and bat for Boris in advance of the inevitable climb downs. Especially coming so soon after Paterson.

Will be interesting to see which line they take at PMQs. Straight denials not really an option. Full and wholesome apology not his style. I'd go with hinting that he was misled and throwing some people under a bus.

This might be Sunak's one chance for a while. Sunak is popular for spending shit loads, and with his latest and coming budgets he's setting about undermining the only thing which made him popular in the first place. If he stays at No.11 he's on his way to being as popular as Osborne

They will offer a half hearted apology but with a 'not my fault guv' I didnt know about it and then announce an enquiry into 'getting to the bottom' of the party led by some lacky tory benefactor - in effect kick it into the long grass and try and smother any further leaking out. They might even sack a minion but that will be it!

Then they will try and shift agenda with some big probably covid announcement later today - likely to be further covid lockdown measures because of omicron - masks and working from home if possible. They will try and deflect even if it means some additional stick from ERG and Brexit ultras.

Problem is credibility is gone and public are laughing at them, red wall backbenchers will be feckin furious.

Think it will be quite ugly. Johnson deals badly with being questioned and has a temper.

In the end with a majority of 80 you don't need to do tonnes to keep enough of the party on side to enforce your will, providing the backbench don't think you're actively undermining their chances of reelection. When you can legislate with relative ease you can achieve plenty.

Russia is about to invade Ukraine but given Boris knighted the Don of a former KGB head and covered up the report into Russian interference in the referendum I'm not sure which side we'd be on.

No Ministers available for media today. Not even Kwarteng or Javid, who usually get wheeled out to defend the indefensible 10 minutes before the u-turn.

In other news, Patel continues to live out her authoritarian fantasy by including a clause in the Nationalities and Borders Bill that allows a Home Secretary to strip someone of their British nationality provided they have another one. Whilst this exists, it had to be with notice. The new clause removes the need for notice if in "the public interest" (a meaningless phrase covering a multitude of sins). Oh, and it retrospectively authorises actions the Home Office took prior to a Court ruling which said this was unlawful (oh look, another Home Office action found to be in breach of any standard of human decency, never mind legality).

Unsurprisingly, this will disproportionately affect ethnic minorities.

She is a fucking horrific piece of work, and an absolutely perfect example of "Pull up the ladder".

Govt set to announce tier 2 restrictions. It'll be interesting but most people will broadly go along with them.

Other than some squawking about what a bad man Putin is we'd leave it well alone. Johnson has plenty of ties to Russian money.

There were countless fucking amendments to that Bill, some of them genuinely disgraceful. There is no way there was appropriate time given to debate the Bill properly - yet another way in which our chosen mode of democracy is sometimes a complete joke,.

This is a strong thread on it.

From the next #10 Press spokesperson

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-59573845
Calls for a better operation in No 10 have been getting louder since the Owen Paterson shambles. A long-term aide to Mr Johnson went back into No 10 not long ago to help.

But there've been private demands from a former minister to sack chief of staff Dan Rosenfeld, speculation that anyone seen in the video will have to quit, suggestions that the PM will have to make a grovelling apology and send some staff out the door, or try to get ahead of the story and launch some kind of inquiry.
I'd say this will be the general plan; but I don't think the apology will reach the level of humble; let alone grovelling.

He started flapping very early; by pulling out the "Party Politics" card.

And then he made an awful mistake by agreeing to cooperate with a Police inquiry. They'll need a much bigger bus; if he's going to throw everyone involved, & attending the parties throw in #10, in breach of lockdown rules; under one.

Hey Tories, party unity - remember when that was a thing?
Senior Tory William Wragg challenges Johnson directly during PMQs over if he’s bringing in Plan B today, and says “few will be fooled by this diversionary tactic”. Johnson doesn’t deny, but says: “No decisions will be taken without consulting the Cabinet”.
Thing is you still can't even be sure how much of this is stage managed...

So we had an apology about something else; an inquiry, that he can ignore; & journos are reporting that junior staff have been told they'll be offered as sacrifices, to protect senior advisers.

So all he's done in increase the number of disgruntled staff who can now leak with a clear conscious.

Perhaps. Boris being humiliated and kicked out / forced to resign is still a massive success for them. And, not to state the obvious or anything, but the Tories are a genuine threat to democracy at the moment.

Starmer did well IMO boxing in the PM carefully - yes a time comes for passionate denunciations but its not quite yet (and done at the wrong time its counter productive).

Blackford is a windbag - his whole MO is concocted indignation and he does it almost every week - not sure how another one cuts through really.

Anyway Johnson has promised to release the CS report to the police and has thrown his closest team under the bus - I think he's toast because someone is going to leak rather than allow themselves to be sacrificed.

Judging by the social meejas, Blackford's words were very well received indeed.

Loving the idea that it's concocted indignation, though. Let's just handwave away the torrent of arseholery this sorry excuse for a government produces on a weekly basis.
