I actually think this will damage them. As mentioned earlier on the thread, oddly more so than the Kabul thing (which is worse) is likely to.
It's the sort of thing that does cut through as it's relatable for a lot of the public that made sacrifices this time last year.
We'll see though

Interestingly on the Kabul thing the top story on the Mail online is about a chief civil servant in the foreign office who was also on leave at the time. I think they'll manage to pass this one off onto the civil service rather than the PM, Raab and coMargin__Walker wrote: Tue Dec 07, 2021 7:29 pm I actually think this will damage them. How fortunate they were to have her as their MP; when poor Tom Tugendhat, was left in tears of frustration, at his inability to get anyone to respond to his attempts to get people he'd served with on planes out,I like neeps wrote: Tue Dec 07, 2021 7:41 pm

Sounds like you're trying to excuse your own crap behaviour there tbh.I like neeps wrote: Tue Dec 07, 2021 7:24 pmWhy though? It's been clear since Cummings' eye testing trip they've taken up for mugs throughout this. The odd breach here and there by politicians is one thing. A Christmas party at No. 10 last December attended by dozens is pretty problematic.
The video of Allegra Stratton laughing about it shows how they view all of us. They know it won't damage them. I'd be embarrassed if I was a Tory voter. However I'm not and didn't fully follow the rules myself so it's hard to be too angry.
It's bollocks. The people setting the rules are blatantly mocking the people who adhered to them. And lying about it. It should bloody damage them.
Whether you voted for them or not is a complete red herring.
It's bollocks but hardly surprising. Only the conned will be surprised and angry. I'm way past being able to sustain anger at this lots antic's. Hopefully it will still be around enough to damage them in the north Shropshire by-election.Happyhooker wrote: Tue Dec 07, 2021 9:12 pmSounds like you're trying to excuse your own crap behaviour there tbh.I like neeps wrote: Tue Dec 07, 2021 7:24 pmWhy though? So I can't be angry if I'm not surprised???
There's a lot of 'oh well, what do you expect' going on (not just here, but everywhere). It has to stop.
And now Williamson is in the frame for a party as well I see

They've been taking the piss the whole pandemic. There was the whole Barnard Castle episode, the giving massive contracts to their mates at the expense of actually helping people and all sorts. If you haven't been angry the whole time I see no reason to be angry now. They'll get away with it. The Tories are untouchable until house prices crash.

Have to say I’m normally pretty sanguine about the lies and deceit that goes on in politics. Most of the time it can be seen from more than one angle and misinformation from all sides and their supporters just turns me off.Happyhooker wrote: Tue Dec 07, 2021 9:38 pm So I can't be angry if I'm not surprised???

I’ve let quite a lot of this government’s bullshit wash over me as being presented as a bit hysterical and the fact we are in unprecedented times.
But the last few weeks it has begun to get on top of me and I’m angry. These really are a bunch of cunts, led by the biggest one of all (who, again Ive
been fairly ambivalent about up until now). It’s almost like a mafia cartel with everyone filling their boots knowing the boss isn’t going to give a shit.
What do we do though. If there was an election tomorrow I suspect they would get back in. I’m at a bit of a loss at this stage and even though I’m
not prone to political hyperbole, I can really see this being the beginning of the end of the Union for one thing, I’m nearly there myself

I want rid of Westminster and the stench all around it. I think it is easy to see living in Scotland or Wales how shit the electoral system for Westminster is. The anger has nowhere in the regions of England to go to and result in a political force like it has in Scotland and I think could eventually in Wales as well. Welsh labour have been careful to avoid committing to union or independence.Happyhooker wrote: Tue Dec 07, 2021 11:44 pmI'm passionately pro union, but couldn't in good faith tell any Scot to vote against separation after the last few yearsSlick wrote: Tue Dec 07, 2021 10:29 pmHave to say I’m normally pretty sanguine about the lies and deceit that goes on in politics. It should have been a decisive moment to anyone paying attention; when those polls started coming out; that showed that English voters; were happy to see NI removed from the Union; than to loose their precious Brexit; Because where NI went; Scotland would surely follow.
In my lifetime; I expect to see an ugly reunification of Ireland; & a probably even uglier, Scottish Independence; & all because some blond cunt decided he wanted to be world king; & some other cunt decided to hold a Referendum.
Fucking hell, I didn’t realise this was just a bunch of them messing around! Sorry, behind the curve, but this makes it even more appalling. Utter wankers

This story wasn't on the telegraph and sun's front page today and is already off the mail onlines top spot fwiw.
Like the innumerate scandals they've had this, last and the previous year this will soon be wiped from public consciousness.

Don’t want to turn this into another Scottish politics thread. Was it you (apologies if not) recently criticising the SNP for lack of focus on independence? I think it’s plain to see that they don’t need to. Just carry on with the “day job” and leave the Tory’s do the independence leg-work for you. Working a treat if recent polls and discussions I’ve had are anything to go by.Slick wrote: Tue Dec 07, 2021 10:29 pmHave to say I’m normally pretty sanguine about the lies and deceit that goes on in politics. I think it probably was me. But I disagree slightly with your assessment, I think they need to start getting more serious about it and reach out beyond the core who believe the fluffy nonsense, or don’t care anyway. Start getting honest about what it is going to mean economically but pitching it as “it’s got to be better than this fucking lot, or at least worth the risk.Tattie wrote: Wed Dec 08, 2021 8:20 amDon’t want to turn this into another Scottish politics thread. This surely is curtains. Would imagine we'll see any number of people chucked under the bus here, but gives a lot of Tories an easy way of chucking Boris now.

I don't blame them - basic common sense not to do this. At some point the records of who was in Downing Street at the time will leak and it will be proven they had a party. I'm not surprised none of them want to go on the record; again refusing to admit that there was a party; & then have a Official finally acknowledge that there was the Party they've all been on record of denying.
There's only so many times he can get them to humiliate themselves.

I've always said that independence has nothing to do with England or the English in that it's not about dislike of either, it's about having the people of Scotland decide for themselves their direction of travel, not having to follow where the overwhelming population south of the border choose to go.
However, it does seem that Bojo the Clown and his circus are the best recruitment tools (and I use the word advisedly) the indy movement could have.

It is a weird thing built into the English character that despite the piss taking of the upper classes that there remains this amount of deference to them. I think part of the creative license taken to how UK covers our own history has enabled it.Tichtheid wrote: Wed Dec 08, 2021 9:47 am David Mitchell's opinion piece from the Observer a couple of days ago

I hope everyone retains a bit of anger for the genuinely disgusting policing bill. The difficulty with arsehole governments like this, as we saw with Trump, is that it's impossible to keep up with all the crimes and attacks on demcracy, and so much stuff gets let through as a result
