De Vries gone, Ricciardo takes his seat to end of the season.

Seems like a risky move for him given that AT have built an absolute tractor this year (and classy as ever blamed their failures on De Vries)

It's a bit feckin bizarre with the driver production line out of RB that they stick in a 30+ year old in ?

Riccardo needs to take the opportunity least a young buck gets in and makes a go of it - that would be him goneburgers.

Not really... they could have gone with youth for sure, and ended up weaker for it. This way, they take the gamble on Ricciardo being able to get on terms with the car and proving he still has speed.... and that then puts pressure on Checo. The team would be stronger in that scenario with the potential to move Ricciardo into RB and then go for youth at AT.

Next year's AT should be a lot better, the two cars will be more closely aligned. Apparently.

Danny Rick lost his mojo/bottle years ago. He's a plodder without any risk-taking these days. Like Bottas.

Conversely he's got the experience to be able get a tractor moving a bit when a noob would just be trying things hoping they work.

Lando got a tractor moving last season while Riccardo battled it out with Williams and Hass in Q1. He's crap.

Lando hasn't been able to win in the thing yet, though.

RBs were 0.5s faster than the field on the Med, when the rest were on the faster reds. Max will win at a canter.

RB and McLaren with race pace on the mediums, might be interesting.

Great lap from Lewis

Classic Spa summer weather again this year !

I don't suppose the stupid bar stewards in the FIA will take my advice from the last time, & prioritise running the F1 race, in whatever the driest 2hr timeframe we get on Sunday, regardless of whether or not the fucking TV people approve !

Let them either run it live, or just show it delayed at the official time, but just start the race at the time that's safest for the competitors.

only if you think that the winner is the only thing of interest.

Spa is always special, there should be some really good racing - the McLaren's , Mercedes and Ferrari all look pretty competitive, and with a good chance of some rain as well , it could be a great race.

As far as Max is concerned , what ever you think about him , that final lap for Pole was truly special. On tricky conditions the commitment on that lap was something only really outstanding drivers can pull out.

I would almost put it up there with Senna's Pole lap at Monaco in 88 ( almost )

Daniel Ricciardo has broken his hand and will be replaced at AlphaTauri for the remainder of the Dutch Grand Prix weekend by Formula 1 debutant Liam Lawson, The Race understands.

Ricciardo crashed in Friday’s second practice session at Zandvoort and it was immediately clear his hand was injured.

He was unlucky, from the bit of the crash I saw.

He came onto the banking, & the McLaren was already crashed on the apex, & he had to deliberately crash into the barrier, & hold full lock, to stop from rolling back, & potentially getting T-Boned by another car.

He just couldn't take his hands off the wheel like they all know they need to to not get injured. He took one for the team !

The Dutch have just taken pre-race buildup to another level, actually worth watching for a change. 👍

Former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone will be charged with fraud by false representation following an investigation into overseas assets believed to be worth more than £400m.

Bye bye Bernie!
Former Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone has pleaded guilty to fraud at Southwark crown court after failing to declare more than £400m of overseas assets to the UK government.
Ecclestone had pleaded not guilty to the charges in August, but changed his plea at a case management hearing on Thursday.

That should get him 2 weeks of house arrest and a Tory nomination to the HoL.

This is pretty much the same situation that got Lester Piggott jail time. Usually if you owe tax and pay it you are fine. (Zahawi etc) If you lie about it, the authorities traditionally take a very dim view.
