Re: 2025 6N thread

Given that VdM, who took him out, proceeded to shepherd the ball over the dead ball line at reduced pace, I can't see how he wouldn't have been able to touch it down if VdM were not there? And as I understand it you are supposed to judge it as if the offending player were not there.

An interesting article in the Torygraph about Smith at 15 -they're presenting some reasonable arguments as to why they think it's a good call. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/rugby-union/2025/02/04/marcus-smith-england-full-back-france-analysis-six-nations/ In 2023, when England suffered their record l...

My conspiracy theory is that aging has already been cured, but it's a tightly kept secret, which is why Murdoch just Will. Not. Die.

See also Musk, Zuckerberg, Bezos & Thiel. Probably also Trump, Putin etc. Endless oligarchy & tyranny is upon us.

A spiv is a dodgy businessman, black market, seedy, always on the lookout for making a quick buck, more often than not borderline illegally. Cheap shiny suit, nasty little moustache. Del boy in Only Fools and Horses, Private Walker in Dad's Army. The Irish use it to insult the owners of the premiers...

Re: New Zealand vs England - clash of the titans Cricket

Benefit of the doubt has always been a "thing" in cricket (sports?) and home teams have generally been given that benefit since Jesus was a lad. Seems that even with technology, that law still applies. Not sure the South African women would agree. They've been on the receiving end of some...

It's excellent, and Rylance is a brilliant actor, but he just seems to me desperately miscast as Mantel's Cromwell. A major part of his character is that he was a bruiser, and you sense, could be again; people are physically intimidated by him as well as afraid of him as a political operator. And he...

Re: New Zealand vs England - clash of the titans Cricket

Bethell looks the real deal to me. Those punch drives down the ground, barely more than a forward defensive, suggest an immaculate technique and timing. Pope & Crawley should be anxious. Particularly Pope, I fear, because of the opener thing and because Crawley seems to be untouchable, a sort of...

Get rid of IHT. If you receive total gifts or inheritance with value over £1,000 (or something like that) in a calendar year it has to be declared as income and taxed as such.

They say they did 160,000 matches in 2016. Let's assume 200,000 matches this year, 3/4 on a Saturday - 150,000 over 18 weekends == 8,333 concurrent games. Call it 10,000 to make the maths easy. Games played at 16 overs per hour (yeah, right...) == 96 balls an hour, 1 ball every 37.5 seconds. Multipl...

Play Cricket's always been rubbish - whoever wrote it knows shit about web programming. I have found so many security flaws in it over the years it's ridiculous. The UX continues to be atrocious. The fact that pro scorer is a windows only app is insane. Just an all round shoddy bit of work.

Have to admit I find this more than a little bizarre. Also can’t work out how a team can finish on 20 something aft...

Think c.45% of the country would describe themselves as atheist or non religious. And a decent chunk of the other 55% would be non Christian. Atheism (or being non Christian) as an attack line would probably struggle for traction I think it would have been a thing until very recently. It's literall...

The flawed system also delivered a referendum on making it less flawed in very recent history. The Great British Electorate, in their infinite wisdom, didn't vote (57.8%) or voted against (28.5%) with only 13.7% voting for a system where every vote would count.

Hard to know who blew that most. Until the 17th over I was happy to say that SA were bowling brilliantly, but frankly Baartman's horror show there should have gone for more than 21 - only 1 6 from 5 rank full tosses.
