Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

I'd take Zander, Schoeman and one of Ritchie/Fagerson/Dempsey in the back row depending on the make up of the others. There are some cracking 7s going to be left at home for sure. Curry 1, Curry 2, JVdF, Willis, Ritchie (is playing like a 7 really), Darge, Pollock and of course Douglas are probably ...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

I keep getting "articles" on Facebook from various sources seemingly wanting van der Merwe to be injured out of the Lions tour, one is called Rugby Addicts, another is Ruck and there was one which I can't recall the name. I know it's clickbait, but it's pretty low at the same time imo. Th...

Duhan would be fit to return during May and Sykes end of May.

Not ideal for Edinburgh but both will be fit for their summer tours.

That’ll be a long time without a world cup in Europe… By Europe we really mean France and England, and anyway, if it was actually a World Cup it's not an odd thing Europe would have to wait. For myself at least I'm sanguine about the event going outside Europe, less so somewhere that's an autocracy...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

There's no reason why Douglas isn't on yet for Watson. Really should be getting the game time. He's on now, but why are we playing Price? Shiel or one of the young laddies would be a better bet He should be getting more than 15min in this type of game. Especially when Watson was pretty quiet.

Shame about the injuries but a job that needed to be done is being done. Against the bad teams you always hope your class players shine through and look a cut above the oppositio and I think that's happening. Jamie Ritchie is currently Scotlands best openside. Breakdown work has been class lately.

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

JD sounds like he is understandably very excited about the Lions.

It is a little sad that the pathway for young coaches, rather than pro players who coach, has been perhaps irreparably damaged.

Melrose in Prem all the way to Lions is some coaching path.

Thrilled for John Dalziel. Done the coaching hard yards Melrose > U20s > London Scottish > 7s > Glasgow > national side > Lions. Brilliant.

A touch of the old school about that path.

The last Melrose affiliated Lions coach did a good job, hopefully JD will do the same.

Blair Murray for bolter. Covers multiple positions. Exciting player who could shine if he played in a half-decent side, imho. They'll sneak the play offs, lose a playoff game and many will see that as an ok season and be happy for it to carry on.

One post of TOL was basically saying "ach is it's ok no-one expected Edinburgh to win anyway".

Such a poor 5min for Edinburgh.

Forwards and Vellacott overly slow in the Benneton 5. One ruck was well over a 5 count with the ball available to the 9. Then a poor defensive set to concede a try.

I'm a bit surprised to see Venter is leaving Glasgow at the end of the season. It might be 2+2 = 5, but what odds on Reuban Logan turning up over the summer? Potentially. Lots of young SQ back rows kicking about and doubt the SRU/Glasgow would match the salary of Brive given Venter is 33 very soon....

France deserved winners of the game and 6N.

Not feeling massively deflated as a Scottish fan after this either though. We haven't folded and I don't think it was a performance that merited a 19 point defeat.
