Re: The Scottish Politics Thread

What he said. In general, the revenue side of things is harder to estimate, and involves more guesswork than the spending side. The aim of those figures in the beginning was to undermine the idea that Scotland was financially viable as a separate entity. Doesn't matter if those executing the method ...

Re: The Scottish Politics Thread

There's that. Also there's misallocation of revenue, e.g. exports via container ports (of which there is little capacity in Scotland).

GERS was invented by Ian Lang, with an express remit of undermining the case for independence.

Re: The Scottish Politics Thread

Swinney needs to go, IMO. But the point stands. He should sort out the immediate problem then fuck off. What we are seeing right now is the exact same cock-up being played out in slow motion in England, even though they were forewarned by our debacle. Looks like they have somehow they contrived to m...

Well, yes. I was thinking of Brexit though. Be nice to have something to garnish our second wave with this winter.

Re: The Scottish Politics Thread

Kids this year are awesome, Highers are now 15% better than historical average. Well done Class of 2020 đź‘Ť In no way are are the usual defenders of the SNP willing to vote for them regardless, they are doing the ANC proud. This year's exams were always going to have an asterisk. They've made a right...

Re: The Scottish Politics Thread

The solution? What I would have done if I were the SQA would be write to the head teacher/rector of every school in Scotland well before the submission date, with the history of that school's actual results per subject (showing the trend and a measure of variability), and instruct them that the set...

Re: The Scottish Politics Thread

I wouldn’t have locked down like we did in the first place. I would have had kids in school but would have enforced more localised lockdowns on London/ Inverclyde etc that were at the point of being overwhelmed. Large parts of the rest of the country were absolutely fine and got nowhere close to ca...

Re: The Official Cricket Thread

What’s the story with you Scots following the England cricket team so closely? Follow is the correct word, not necessarily support! It's the only place we can easily watch test cricket, and up until the last decade or so, ODIs. I love cricket, as do a couple of my mates, and we go to a couple of da...

Re: The Scottish Politics Thread

Depends whether you see the House of Lords as an abomination or not. :???: IMO you're right in that most people in Scotland see Westminster as remote, but for most of them it's about values more than geography. Devolution has shown that a Scottish Government can run things competently whilst being m...

Not sure if serious...? 7 appearances, 5 tries (including two against England at HQ). ASMO, I'd have you banned for the idiocy of that comment if you didn't own the bored  Can anyone post the photo of Darcy riding the vanquished Englishers? This one? https://www.thetimes.co.uk/imageserver/ima...

Morning, good to find the lifeboat, not so good that we're busy reliving THAT game. First time I took my eldest to Murrayfield, we both still have nightmares.
