Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

The vids I've watched doing the Lions match 1 squads seem pretty set starting backline of Dickson-Park, Russel Tuipulotu/Aki Jones/Henshaw VdM Kinghorn/Keenan Lowe/Kinghorn Zander is the only one starting in the Pack. Any way weeks to go and only Andy Farrell is picking the team. It'll be really in...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

Some of the warriors passing in that game was simply joyous. I had to check that I hadn’t accidentally hit a setting to make the app play at 1.5 speed at one stage. Some of the passing and interplay was more like something in a movie or highlights reel than real time. Playing the Lions ,whose away ...

Wikipedia thinks this is correct. Residency is 60 months immediately leading up to when you play, or 10 years of continuous residence, which doesn’t have to be immediately prior. I suppose this is to avoid a player accidentally becoming ineligible for a country they legitimately grew up in. https:/...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

Is this lad a prospect? Northampton Saints have signed English-qualified Scotland U20 winger Amena Caqusau from Glasgow Warriors ahead of next season. I can't say I know much about him, but he seems to have been rated by the SRU and Glasgow. All the best to him. Is this not the same as the Zach Mer...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

Does Edinburgh have a full time throwing coach? I would be unsurprised if they don't. Does Scotland for that matter? It's been a systemic problem in Scottish rugby for 20+ years now. Genuinely, who is the last hooker we had you could rely on to make his throws? Gordon Bulloch? Ross Ford was a third...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

They had done well to get themselves in a good position with 20 mins to go. I thought Thompson was playing the conditions well, and the only issue was the lineout being a shitshow. That Tuipolotu red card was an absolute killer though. I thought they played well until being on Benneton's line and g...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

I don't know why I'm disappointed, it happens so fucking often. Indeed. This was a winnable match and Edinburgh were in a position to build a lead Benetton would have found it hard to overcome. But they shat the bed, couldn’t score, and were (entirely predictably) punished for it. Bottled it .... a...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

Agree on the age profile. I think my surprise was mostly due to Mann moving on too - Venter and Mann are the two hard carriers at the moment in the Glasgow non-starting backrow (i.e. behind Dempsey). Yeah losing both is tough. Perfect storm with Venter with probably looking to sign off his career m...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

I'm a bit surprised to see Venter is leaving Glasgow at the end of the season. It might be 2+2 = 5, but what odds on Reuban Logan turning up over the summer? Potentially. Lots of young SQ back rows kicking about and doubt the SRU/Glasgow would match the salary of Brive given Venter is 33 very soon....

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

I’d have Sione, Cummings and Dempsey in my 15 which puts the likes of Jordan, Gilcho and Fagerson/Darge/Christie on the bench. I think that potentially helps alot with the last 15-20 minutes. Unfortunately I’m not sure how feasible it is to ever have that 23 available. Also we have no front row dept...

Some bullshit calls have made this a 20 point game but ultimately France the better side. Scotland easily outplayed in the forwards, not strong enough in the bench.

I've said this a few times and been poo-pooed but I think this this morning from Tom English probably encapsulates my feelings on Scotland. Not convinced, but yeah, better than it has been in the past for sure. Point I'm making is that this 'huge drop off' narrative isn't really correct. There's a drop off, sure. But it's not that wailing disaster it's sometimes made out to be. The drop off is from world class 10 to very questionable i...

The drop off from our 1s to 2s is so depressingly massive. Tighthead and hooker are the big problems in the forwards.
