Re: England vs Springboks

Spencer’s international career was wrecked by Eddie, but yes he has disappointed in an England shirt and I expected a lot better from him. He had a chance to take control of the jersey this autumn and very much failed to do so I'm never sure how much inference to draw from a handful of performances...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

Very impressive from Glasgow. What a change the new coach has made, but funnily enough, if the game is loose, it may be pretty even and open. It never ceases to amaze me just how close some of these games can go. Literally just a knock on, collapsed scrum, badly timed pass/tackle and you are a winne...

Re: 6 Nations Round 4 - Italy v Scotland

Italy have a very good back 3, and Brex will ask the centres some serious questions. Can see Italy doing some serious damage if Scotland doesn’t play better than they have in every game so far. I thought Scotland was very fortunate to walk away with a win at Murrayfield last year…

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

I appreciate that there are a bunch of supporters and occasionally media who harp on about Scotland’s use of “poaches”, but as someone said above, as a supporter I couldn’t really give a toss. I don’t take it personally. It is laughable and it’s designed to provoke the kind of reactions and response...

Re: 6 Nations Round 3 - Scotland v England

Yep, It'll be an interesting game. Everything I've read tends to suggest England are going big or going home on the Jones' blitz defence. Clearly high risk, high reward and Russell is a step above any 10 they've faced in terms of being able to get around the pressure. Ireland and SA shut him down w...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

I’m in agreement with the “any other two teams but them” sentiment about our group. I could weep when I see the other half of the draw, a semi final would definitely be achievable there. I’ll be supporting Big Bill and Boff, big time, I’d love to see Fiji and Argentina go deep into the tournament. ...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

I’m excited about watching some (hopefully) great rugby. Can Scotland get out the group? Yes, it’s possible, but highly unlikely. In my view they would need to play at their absolute best for either game for the full 80. Even then, if Ire or SA are playing at or about their usual levels, it won’t b...

Re: RWCR1 Scotland vs Springboks

OK, I've reached the fear and loathing stage a bit earlier than usual. Just desperate for a decent performance but not expecting much more. I'm still confident of a win. Unfortunately I'll need to avoid the score until my shift is done. Love this optimism! Could be a cracker if Scotland can front u...

Re: 2023 Six Nations

Scotland has benefitted from some debatable turnover penalties this campaign. The final one against England was (to my eyes) no different to some of Ireland’s last weekend.

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

Perhaps Mish is selected because they need a specialist 7 to contest turnovers. Scotland was turned over a lot last week (by wingers…). Dempsey was good, and there’s an argument M Fagerson should start ahead of Richie…. I’ve not watched the game back, but I did think at the time I thought some of th...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

Lads getting isolated and turned over after a break. That’s been a frustration in the past, but perhaps less so in the Autumn. Totally agree with whoever talked about accuracy at the breakdown. If Scotland turn up, it should be a great contest\game.

Re: The Official English Rugby Thread

DAN COLE I see what you're saying I guess but the Scottish pack has more than held its own over the past 5 years or so. Ritchie, Watson and Shoe are all very very handy in the physicality stakes too, can't remember their hookers names but seem to recall at least one of them is fairly handy too, and...

JM2K6 wrote: Wed Feb 01, 2023 10:15 am Is our pack monstrous compared to everyone else? Genuine question. I suppose something like Genge, George, Cole, Itoje, Ribbans, Lawes, Earl, Dombrandt would be pretty large.
On pure size, no. But there’s a dynamism, aggression and athleticism to that pack that Scotland would do well to match.

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

On the Huw Jones chat - honestly would've thought his crowbar nature, occasionally dogshit hands, and odd brainfarts were his biggest problem. He's a rare attacking talent but not the most rounded of players, you know what you're getting with him. He doesn't seem any worse a defender than most inte...

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

I thought Ben White had a fantastic game for Irish at the weekend, so would not be surprised to see him involved, even starting. If the predicted English centres start, then Harris will be too - they are going to be very hard to stop. You can also see Crosbie starting; he played well against Earl (...

Re: The Official English Rugby Thread

Sorry for the intrusion, but Ben Earl has to play. He’d be an absolute nightmare (for the opposition) hanging off the side of a monster English pack. B Curry at 6, surely, although is he a line out option?

The word “legend” is banded around a lot these days when describing folks, but Doddie deserves the moniker almost more than anyone. He faced an awful disease with humour, determination, courage and integrity. RIP.

Re: The Official Scottish Rugby Thread

Lots of things Scotland should do better, but I challenge those who assert that the players “don’t put their bodies on the line”. To take one example, how could anyone question Darcy’s commitment to the cause? One of the smallest players on the pitch, but he doesn’t ever shirk a high ball, a tackle ...
