Cheetahs invited into the Challenge Cup. Interesting as if they win it they could get a place in the Champions Cup

EPCR still working hard to develop European rugby, I see. Wonder what happened to the 3rd tier competition they promised to implement, or any other European candidates for the Challenge Cup if it can be expanded just like that.

Let's hope they've given a bit of thought to the format of the pool stages, they were rubbish in both of the European competitions this season.

The Georgian Black Lions are playing in South Africa right now in our Currie Cup First Division. As are a Kenyan and Zimbabwean team.

Good news for the Cheetahs. They can add the Pumas and Griquas. They'll beat the Italian and Wales teams.

Fucking pathetic isn't it?

I can sort of accept the URC Saffa teams being involved even if I'd really prefer they aren't (because it's supposed to be a bloody European competition  ), but inviting the ones who aren't involved in a European league ahead of other European teams is taking the piss.

As far as I'm aware, they weren't planning on changing the pool format for 22/23, which is a huge mistake.

Think your lot are doing more to develop the game than our London/Dublin spivs then.

Its not ideal having a 2nd tier Euro club playing down here but its great for our local teams and the Kenyans and Zimbos. The Georgians get to bring their power game and face the pace and flair of the Africans. I'm not sure that we'll ever be able to grow the game much beyond where it is to be honest. The goal should be to have financially viable tournaments that can strengthen and improve sustainability of unions and local clubs.

All the top level Georgian players will still be in Europe as the teams they play for finish their season

Yes its a club team but have a large number of the national squad playing for them. They're based in Stellenbosch and by all reports are receiving great exposure to local coaching. They train at the sports centre in Coetzenberg. Athletes from around the world go there to train. Its a varsity town and my daughter who studies there says the Georgian boys can be seen from time to time out for a drink.

There is no place on earth that's better to see twenty something lasses than Coetzenberg on a sunny day. High jumpers, hurdlers, pole vaulters. Legs for days!

SAS is world class. All Paul Roos 1st teams go there for their pre season conditioning.

the current format is awful. I hope they go back to the 4 team pools like we had before the pandemic
