Believe me the rugby population of Bristol will have him down as a nailed on starter. The outrage when he wasn’t originally picked put ours to shame when Gatland only picked two of our boys for the last tour.KingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 1:37 pmPresumably Fagerson is now undisputed second choice, if he wasn’t before Porter was injured? Of course we now have to listen to weeks of incessant chat that Sinckler should be starting, let alone benching, in the first test

Is Paterson the one who was starting at full back? Was looking forward to watching him as ive never come across him before but kids made that impossible! He was decent then?KingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 10:46 am A fairly odd game last night for Edinburgh, utterly ruined by the ref but the deserving team won. I would say he got almost every major decision wrong or inconsistently applied the laws, including the baffling decision to not award a penalty for direct contact to the head on the late Edinburgh try (I agree there wasn’t much the tackler could do, but that is irrelevant given the way the law is currently written and they way the various directives are being applied). He then doubled down on that wrong decision by deciding to not check the ulster foul play noted by Edinburgh because the try stood; what if it was a yellow or red card offence? Really weird and you could tell the TMO was utterly confused by Whitehouse’s logic. Still, we all know whitehouse gonna whitehouse I suppose and ulster got the win they deserved anyway.
From Edinburgh perspective the young lads were all good. Harrison was a little wobbly at lineout but looked good in the scrum and excellent in the loose (his sprint to take down two ulster players in defence and prevent a certain try a real highlight). We are all obviously excited about Ashman, but this kid has a serious chance too, he’s still 18 ffs!
Patterson was very solid, both in general defence and positional play but particularly under the high ball. He made a few nice attacking runs too which I expect we’ll see more of as he gains confidence, and his boot looks pretty long.
Muncaster for me isn’t just promising, he’s already there. He played like a seasoned vet and will slot in beautifully to our back row. Chances might be limited somewhat given he’s competing with Mata, but he should be targeting 10-15 starts next year IMO. He is physically well developed already, he works very hard, he was geeing up the other guys and looked solid in defence too. He also made one lovely break that should have led to a try if not for a terrible pass from the 9 I think, possibly Pyrgos by that point.

Yup. Paterson at fullback, Harrison at hooker and Muncaster at 8. Hutchinson also came on at centre (and scored a nice try) for his debut but he’s a bit older (23 I think).Slick wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 3:23 pmIs Paterson the one who was starting at full back? With Darge, Thompson and Dobie at Glasgow stepping up and taking their game time well too. It's great to see.KingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 3:38 pmYup. Sinckler has been excellent lately to be fair. Wouldn't be the first late call up to get himself into the test team.SomersetJock wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 2:40 pmBelieve me the rugby population of Bristol will have him down as a nailed on starter. Matt Fagerson broke his arm on Friday. A real shame!

It's been a stop start time for him this year with his ankle too which is a shame as he really seems to be starting to break through as a top level player. On the other side, it might be good for him and his body to have the summer off, an arm break will be 2 months, maybe 3 if a bad one. If he uses the time well he could really hit next season raring to go.
Yes, a sore one for him but probably a good time to do it.
Who is next off the rank for the summer tour?

Ally Miller has played a bit at 8 this season. Either that or Gordon as a 7 and try skinner at 8 a bit more.

John Hardie retires from professional rugby. 2015/16 Hardie was one of my favourite players to watch over the last decade of Scottish rugby. A proper 7.

It was once said that Peter Winterbottom would put his head where most players wouldn't put their feet, this was back in the old days of "show him the tackits" when someone was lying over the ball.
Hardie has a similar disregard for his own personal safety.
Terrific player.

He’s played a bit of 8 for Edinburgh has he not, my (awful) memory suggests he has. He is pretty fast and is definitely ‘big enough’. He could definitely do it, but he still strikes me as a nasty bastard 6.

I don't think so, he's started mainly in the 7 shirt, but also in the 6. Miller has been playing 8 when they've played together this season, but Crosbie is an abrasive carrier, he links well and is a terrific lineout option.
Everyone in a team has to do all the other things like tackling well and being good over the ball, but running it back from a kick off is often done by the 8 and Crosbie can do that well. Likewise being an extra lineout option, with Ritchie that give you four top end jumpers. I haven't seen him "chicken wing" a pass out the back door like Mata, but few can do it as well as Big Bill.
And absolutely ferocious in defence. Like running into a particularly aggressive brick wall.I like neeps wrote: ↑Tue Jun 08, 2021 8:25 am John Hardie retires from professional rugby. 2015/16 Hardie was one of my favourite players to watch over the last decade of Scottish rugby. A proper 7.
Interesting shout actually. I think both him and Richie have those all-round capabilities.Tichtheid wrote: ↑Tue Jun 08, 2021 10:51 amKingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Tue Jun 08, 2021 10:10 amHe’s played a bit of 8 for Edinburgh has he not, my (awful) memory suggests he has. England have named their preliminary squad for the summer. Fraser Dingwall is in, which will likely put that particular option to bed for good.
Interestingly Bevan Rodd is not in - I don't know how preliminary their squad is though, it might just be that he has commitments elsewhere and will join at a later date.

Sale are in the play offs so not named in this squad but expected to be in the next batchKingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Thu Jun 10, 2021 12:14 pm England have named their preliminary squad for the summer. Fraser Dingwall is in, which will likely put that particular option to bed for good.

So do we think Nakarawa really failed his medical with Ulster, or did they just not fancy him after the year he has had at Glasgow and they've used the medical as an excuse?
Surely Glasgow aren't going to re-contract him though, certainly not at the kind of rates they were probably paying this year?

Surely wherever he ends up he'll struggle to get the wages he's used to. Wouldn't be surprised if he heads to Japan.KingBlairhorn wrote: ↑Fri Jun 11, 2021 10:42 am So do we think Nakarawa really failed his medical with Ulster, or did they just not fancy him after the year he has had at Glasgow and they've used the medical as an excuse?

So I squares up, casual like.

Yup. You know whenever anyone criticises his defence that they have never actually watched him
