Speaking as someone who's travelled to St Ives via train its not unreasonable to use a plane if your Prime Minister IMO - the environmental hypocrisy is baked into every G7 leader anyway.

He can speak Italian, French and Latin fluently. He's not stupid but apparantly lacks the thoughfullness you would want from a leader IMO

There is a very big difference in being learned and self-confident as a result of an expensive education and being talented and intelligent.

Agree with this to an extent but the point stands that BJ is obviously not stupid by any real meaning of the word. He is far better suited to pithy articles in the Telegraph than being leader of a G7 nation though

Cornwall is a 5 hour train journey - not convinced we'd see people losing it if Boris flew from London to Glasgow.

He tended to lie and make stuff up when he did that, too.

I don't know about his French & Italian; but his Latin reflects the 2:2 he was awarded.

Most of the time he tries blinding the plebs with his latin; he makes a balls of it, & gets it wrong; but the obscurity of latin means that the plebs are still impressed. He most certainly isn't, "fluent"

I suppose my view is regardless of who is PM I have no problem with them using VIP transport and indeed think they should. Whimsical displays of using public transport for appearances sake do nothing to convince me of a leaders virtue.

The environmental criticism is fair enough given the 'green agenda' they espouse but thats a seperate issue.

To be fair I guess the security implications and escort of a PM using public transport would be disruptive to other passengers. Still think he should experienced the trip the way other grockles have to though

Agreed - his latin is pretty poor and usually just random collection of latin words or a memorised phrase from his school days taken out of context. Lets not confuse the benefit of a very expensive education with innate intelligence!

Napier Barracks: Opposition MPs call for Priti Patel to resign

Opposition MPs have called on the home secretary to resign after documents suggested she misled parliament over her decision to house asylum seekers at Kent's controversial Napier Barracks. Health officials, inspectors and a High Court judge have examined concerns dormitory use led to a Covid outbreak.

Priti Patel said in February that "use of the accommodation was all based on Public Health England (PHE) advice". However, a Home Office email said PHE advice viewed dorms as unsuitable.

Amid calls in the Commons for Ms Patel to resign, SNP MP Joanna Cherry said: "What she said - that the department had previously followed public health guidance regarding Napier Barracks in every single way - was simply not factually correct."

She asked: "Why isn't the home secretary tendering her resignation as Amber Rudd (the former home secretary) had the grace and decency to do?"

Have you ever tried to get to Cornwall from London and hoped to get there on time without a jet?
That depends how much time you give yourself to get there.

That should secure her position for another 6 months at least.

An "IT glitch" has lost the phone records (calls and texts) of her discussions with two Police chiefs over the Extinction Rebellion blockade of the Newsprinters site.

It's amazing how these things keep happening, like poor old Jennifer Acuri's laptop getting stolen from her car.

On the contrary, it looks rather carefully handled to me.

Their supporters will "pah" and roll eyes, and exaggerate ad absurdum to deflect, of course, as will most of the press, tbh.

No one is holding them to account

Bearing in mind the PM's entourage will be about 40 strong plus press security etc. I would say it makes perfect sense to fly but lets bash Boris, because, well you know...

Not according to the blonde slug it aint. The two most important things on the agenda are the global pandemic and the global climate crisis! THough unfortunately they have been somewhat overshadowed by the European "sausage and mince" crisis that for some reason our twat of a PM didn't see coming even though he signed it all off as over and done with less than 6 months ago

If there’s a poll regarding the issue I’m perfectly content that the PMs travel arrangements can be different from those of the rest of us, if only for security.

He regularly travels on trains, coaches and cars. Nothing to do with security.

He probably flew because the roads and rail go the SW are so poor.

Money for consultants, for the moronic idea of a tunnel to NI; but the transport links to the SW mean you have to take a plane trip

Mixed messages just for a change!
Boris Johnson said he disapproves of England fans booing the national team for taking the knee in protest against racism.
The prime minister said he backed England players and could see “no reason” to boo them, though he did suggest the team's chosen method of protest was ineffective.
“I support England’s players,” Mr Johnson said when asked by Channel 5 about taking the knee ahead of England's first Euro 2020 game.
Footballs fans have a right to boo and jeer the England team for “taking the knee” in protest at racism, the Home Secretary has said.
Priti Patel said the anti-racism protest associated with the Black Lives Matter movement amounted to “gesture politics” and dodged a question about whether she would boo herself.
