From the Daily Mail:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... lberg.html
'This type of case is often settled civilly,' Goldman, who acted as a prosecutor for Trump's January 2020 impeachment, explained: 'If the Trump Organization wanted to, my guess is they could have engaged in good faith negotiations to try to settle this case with a fine and perhaps avoid a guilty plea or a conviction.

'They chose to fight this. That says something. It's typical of Donald Trump. But I am a little surprised that this ultimately ended, based on these allegations, in a criminal charge rather than a settlement.'

'They've already taken a run at Allen Weisselberg. They have also approached Allen Weisselberg, I am certain, and said, "This is what we have. We would like you to cooperate." Allen Weisselberg said, "Thanks but no thanks, I'm not going to cooperate. I'll take my chances,"' Goldman theorized.

'He's not facing that much jail time. And I don't think there's any more pressure to add to him based on the fact that he was in handcuffs today. He knew that was coming. He made that conscious decision to get arrested and get indicted rather than cooperate.
This does support the narrative that this is a vendetta against Trump rather than evidence of actual wrong doing.

The risk is that it doesn't actually achieve anything, which then weakens the prospect of other, more serious charges being successful.

There is a possibility that they can prove that the accounting was fraudulent, which would give the banks reason to call in their loans and force the Trump Org to the wall, but it might be more in the banks' interests to allow them to keep trading. Certainly the Russians are not predisposed to allow the State to remove Trump as a threat: I think they would want to keep him holding rallies and undermining American democracy, so they'll probably continue to fund him.

The Democrats need to get off their arses, immediately, & remove the filibuster, & restructure the court, to stop the complete politicization of the Court. They're being taken for mugs by the GOP, who aren't interested in cooperation, & doing whats best for the country.
Two things are certain in US politics:-

1). The Republicans will always ram through the legislation and judicial appointments of their choice irrespective of whether they have a majority or not.
2). The Democrats will always fail to do so due to their baffling belief in the myth of bipartisan cooperation in the face of all the evidence, and an inability to get in the gutter and fight dirty.

I read this piece some time ago (it's over a year old).

https://gregolear.substack.com/p/tinker ... ource=copy

It suggests that Trump has been an FBI informant which is why he has managed to get away with so much for so long (and possibly why his tax returns remain secret).
And then, something miraculous happened. On 4 November 1986, Scarfo and eleven of his associates were indicted on charges that included loan sharking, extortion and conducting an illegal gambling business in a racketeering conspiracy. Prosecutors had tried for years to take down Little Nicky. And now, after all that time, they finally had their evidence. Not only that, but the investigation into Trump? It went away. Poof—as if it never existed.

...

The only way to know for sure if Donald John Trump is a Confidential Informant is if he admits it himself (unlikely), or if law enforcement comes forward (illegal). But the circumstantial evidence is compelling. The pattern is: 1) Trump deals with mobsters as usual; 2) Law enforcement begins investigating Trump; 3) Mobsters suddenly get busted, while 4) investigation into Trump is scuttled. This happened three times that we know about. I’m not counting the first known instance of Trump providing information to prosecutors, concerning Cody and concrete, in the late 70s.

I can conceive of no scenario in which Trump was not a CI, and a top echelon one at that. He’s avoided indictment too many times. No one is that lucky.

Or, put another way: How can someone that lucky manage to run a fucking casino into the ground?
Does this sound plausible?

Trump has taken on a new press secretary. If you click on the link in the tweet she posted and read down..😂

Though there has never been any substantial evidence of voter fraud that would have overturned Trump’s 2020 defeat as Trump has claimed, supporters in the crowd maintained that “Trump won.”

I'm genuinely interested to see what effect a potential super-spreader event like this has.

[Edit]
I see what you mean. She either didn't read the article, or she's trusting that Trump's followers are too stupid to follow the link.

I've sort of viewed Trump as an American Jacob Zuma.

The good news is that Zuma is behind bars this morning.

It's a neat way to scam some cash - file a large lawsuit that appeals to his ill-educated base, raise a load of cash to "fund" it, and rely on the courts to throw it out very early on before much of the money has been spent.

Law enforcement might want to take a look at it as a possible case of obtaining money through deception?

What’s happening with all Trumps lawsuits?
The wheels of Justice grind slowly; but they grind very fine !

Cohen has spent hours with the SDNY DAs, & has passed over a bunch of documents.

Weisleberg (sp?), his, 'fixer', is under intense focus, & the SDNY has questioned his ex-DIL, & son; & made it abundantly clear, that if he doesn't cooperate; they've enough evidence to sling his son in prison for a few years.

The defamation case by the woman who accused him of rape; & who kept the dress with the DNA; has resumed progress; now he can't hide behind being POTUS; & the next logical step is a demand for his DNA.

The Tax records are with the Congress, & he lost that case too; so his record of losing every case is going the same direction of all his cases against the legitimate election.

There's also the minor matter of him interfering in the election in Georgia, & doing so on tape, & in the way that a five year old can tell what was happening !

All of these are State charges; so there's no pardon incoming; even if the GOP were in power !

[Edit] Oh, and then there must be fifty of these lawsuits; where the shitgibbon, welched on debts his campaign owed to cities around the country; for his fluffer events.
Wowee.
So they got him then !!! Details please.

Nailed, just like that other presidential candidate that so many of youse were touting on TOF:

There's something wonderfully ironic about the shitgibbon getting his comeuppance because of a divorced woman.

https://www.thedailybeast.com/the-famil ... indictment
Allen Weisselberg, the Trump Organization’s longtime chief financial officer, has always been key to unlocking the finances of the Trump family business. For years, prosecutors have been looking for documents that would show what exiled insiders like Trump’s ex-consigliere Michael Cohen have claimed: that the Trump Organization was fudging numbers and dodging taxes.

What investigators didn’t know was that the proof was in the hands of Jennifer Weisselberg, the woman once married to Barry Weisselberg, the son of Allen Weisselberg. And it wasn’t until November 2020 that city and state investigators connected with her to acquire the evidence.

...

The top finance executive at the Trump Organization was indicted for dodging taxes by receiving pay in unaccounted corporate perks. Among them: redirecting his salary to cover tuition payments for his grandkids.

As prosecutors would discover, Barry Weisselberg explained it all in sworn testimony he made during a deposition in his divorce case in August 2018.

Grandpa Weisselberg paid more than $50,000 a year for each of the two kids to attend a top-rated private academy, the Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School. He’d been doing it for at least six years, Barry Weisselberg told his wife’s lawyer, Clifford Petroske.

New York investigators would later ask Jennifer Weisselberg about that financial arrangement, according to two people in the room. They said prosecutors’ eyes widened when she explained that Trump himself would sign a check that she would hand deliver to the school.
I would have thought the lying sack of shit had the wit to not sign the checks himself; but I suppose, after years of getting away with this shit; his ego didn't allow for the possibility of him getting caught.

But now signing the checks himself will make it a lot harder to claim he knew nothing about the scheme; & all this is from sworn evidence in a divorce; & it'll be impossible for the Weisselberg's to undo those statements; & now Grandpa is facing 15 years for the top count on the charge sheet.

Trump is a grifter, he'll fleece his supporter's anyway he can, an example, if you donate to his cause, you have to read the small print and tick a box saying you don't want the donation to be a monthly donation...
Millions didn't, now there's court cases everywhere from idiots who donated, didn't tick the box, and have had money taken out of their account monthly instead of a one off grift. ..

I'm puzzled as to how Voter ID, standard since forever not just in the US but in every democracy, can somehow identify who to disenfranchise.
Congratulations -- you have just concocted the ultimate Conspiracy Theory.

I suspect you mean that the requirement somehow, after many decades, suddenly restricts Black voters.
So what you are saying to us is "Dem Black Fellas dey so dumb they don't know how to use ID to vote ... Dey so dumb dey don't know it's the exact same ID they use to get their benefits if applicable or to get their Covid support."

Here is a thread from some lawyer/economist on twatter:

He speaks of the strong likelihood of Trump doing time, but it's not entirely straightforward, in my view.

Here in South Africa, Jacob Zuma, the former President, has been arrested and is serving a 15 month jail term for contempt of court.

This has precipitated riots and looting in support of calls for his unconditional release, with shopping malls and distribution warehouses looted and burned to the ground.

Infrastructure like water treatment plants have been vandalised, and fuel refineries attacked in what are clear attempts to subvert the State.

Zuma's various offspring have been posting urging on the riots with video footage of men discharging shotguns at the current President's image.

I would expect at least as much in the US if Trump were arrested.

It's unrealistic to expect him to end up in prison...unfortunately.

His kids, & their spouses are all fair game; as he ran his company like the mob; with family members in the most sensitive posts; so they're all bound to be guilty of something worth doing time.

For the chief scumbag; if prison isn't possible, then penury & ignominy is the best alternative.

Take everything he has in fines, & penalties; & make him a pariah for anyone outside of the loons. He's a egotist who craves attention, & you can tell from his lies about how much he is worth, (even down to committing massive fraud to get himself on the rich list), that losing everything, will probably be more painful to him, than being in prison.

No shit!!!!
Vladimir Putin personally authorised a secret spy agency operation to support a “mentally unstable” Donald Trump in the 2016 US presidential election during a closed session of Russia’s national security council, according to what are assessed to be leaked Kremlin documents.
The key meeting took place on 22 January 2016, the papers suggest, with the Russian president, his spy chiefs and senior ministers all present.
They agreed a Trump White House would help secure Moscow’s strategic objectives, among them “social turmoil” in the US and a weakening of the American president’s negotiating position.

GOTCHA screams SaintK in triumph, as if completely oblivious to the caution in the opening paragraph that this is not confirmed fact but is only "according to what are assessed to be leaked Kremlin documents"... leaked presumably by that ever-omnipresent Democrat source, the infamous Anonymous.

But I can understand how SaintK instinctively knows that that the document is genuine, and that would be because it's written in Russian. And that is indeed "No shit!!!!"-level proof enough.

Given that the article you quoted came from The Guardian, it has just occurred to me to look back in to check to see if it was Luke Harding who had written it, and oh my goodness yes it was.

FYI SaintK, he along with Rachel Maddow were probably the two most significant purveyors of the Absolute Lemon that you all got sold which was The Steele Dossier ... which in turn of course fuelled the utter Much-Ado-About-Nothing farce known as The Mueller Investigation.

Just sayin'.
