Thanks Chilli. The real rugby starts now. First Test always the most important in a series.
Bring it on.

It’s all in supermarkets now.

Lukhanyo Am to Captain?South Africa may well be without World Cup-winning captain Siyamthanda Kolisi when they front up the British and Irish Lions in the first Test in Cape Town next Saturday.

Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber revealed that COVID-19 protocols dictate that players could be out of contention for almost three weeks.
The Bok coach’s revelation follows the announcement that Wilco Louw has been drafted into the squad this week and named on the bench for the South Africa ‘A’ versus Bulls match at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday – as cover for the remaining COVID-19 cases in the camp.
The COVID-19 return to play protocols means several of the players currently in isolation could be sidelined for up to 17 days from when they first went into segregation.
Players who recently tested positive included Kolisi, Dan du Preez, Retshegofaditswe Nche, Mbongeni Mbonambi, Siyabonga Ntubeni and Makazole Mapimpi.
Nienaber told a virtual media briefing – ahead of Saturday’s South Africa ‘A’ versus Bulls warm-up match – that, a week away from the series opener, there is no guarantee any of those players would feature at the Cape Town Stadium next Saturday.
“I am not 100 percent sure on that, I will probably lie if I give you an answer,” Nienaber told the media – when asked about the availability of his skipper and other players currently still in isolation.

“There are lots of criteria [for them to return].

“We have got two medical professionals who run that [protocols] for us and they are in constant communication with the Medical Advisory Group that guides us through that process.
“They are on top of it and every morning we as a coaching group get feedback from them.
“[They will tell us:] ‘This guy is still on track, that guy is on track’ and they can tell us: ‘This guy can join team training now’.

“We just want to know when can he join us for training and we work with the players we have available.
“We do not wreck our heads with the guys and the process as they return.
“That is up to the doctors.
“They must get them ready and the moment that guy is ready to join our group we will work with him.”
He confirmed there is a group of players who are not available for selection because of the COVID protocols.
“When a player tests positive for COVID, you go into isolation for 10 days.
“People then think they are eligible to play again after 10 days, but that is not the case.
“There is a return to play protocol that they have to follow before they can get selected.
“Basically, if a player tests positive for COVID it will take him 16 to 17 days to get back into the mix.
“There are protocols we have to follow.”
The Bok had 26 COVID-related cases – 14 players and 12 staff members.
This resulted in the call-up of Louw, because there was a shortage of available props in the camp ahead of Saturday’s SA ‘A’ versus Bulls game.
“We, unfortunately, had only four props available,” Nienaber said.
“If one of them got injured, then we wouldn’t be able to field a full front row and a bench.
“Then we would have to have forfeited the match, which is the reason why we have brought Wilco Louw in.”

As a Bok and Harlequins fan, I am the most nervous about seeing Smith play in these tests. I know they'll likely start with Biggar at 10, so the thought of Smith coming on at 50 minutes worries me, as he'll challenge our tiring defence like nobody else.
Please start Farrell at 10
Of course my prediction comes with the caveat that covid actually allows all three tests to be played.
So you are saying that the same people who "took care of Princess Diana" will nobble the Boks with covid in case the results don't go in your favour?
It seems as if they have already jumped the gun a already.
Hang your head in shame!

All good, I'm just excited that this series is actually going ahead.
Heart says Lions, head says Boks, so as I'm not a betting man that made it 3-0.

We support our SH brokers against the Lions.
With Kolisi out we can start van Staden in 6 and anyone in 8.
Faf is just so much more likeable than Reinach but is definitely our second choice.
De Allende is set.
Wings are set.
And centre's.

The Springboks were bolstered by the returns from Covid-19 isolation of hookers Bongi Mbonambi and Scarra Ntubeni, as well as No 8 Dan du Preez ahead of the first Test against the British and Irish Lions.
According to official Lions series broadcaster SuperSport's Twitter account, the trio has completed their self-isolation period following their Covid positive test results.
The news comes in the nick of time for the Boks, who gave a number of their peripheral squad members a run in the SA 'A' team's 17-14 defeat to the Bulls at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.
Several star Boks, including captain Siya Kolisi, Makazole Mapimpi, Handre Pollard, Frans Malherbe, Lood de Jager and Frans Steyn, have also been recovering from Covid-19 infection.

Can't be good playing 80 min of Test rugby after a covid infection. I think we are a bit fucked, all those guys shouldnt feature in the first test. Front row, locks, 8 and 10 is a concern. I guess we will earliest have a full strenght team for the second test, if not only for the third. And then still fitness will be questionable. That covid outbreak has fucked us good, but of course nobody speaks it out loud.
This 100%

Nienaber & Rassie have a few surprises up their sleave. They will wait till the last second before releasing the Bok team and may even change from the original team.

Leave Nienaber out of it....after his pathetic remarks this past weekend leave it to Rassie....who should actually shoulder responsibility for the SA A mess. He coached them in the huild up and on the field

He is right about their scrum. I thought JD did well in the line outs.Chilli wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 9:53 am https://rugby365.com/tournaments/britis ... yyPhAITL28
Stormers coach says Lions scrum is shit.
But Dobson should rather shut up.
You think we have enough depth to fake 5-10 starting positions on Thursday and then switch to the best players at the last second? You really think the Lions will buy that?OomStruisbaai wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 8:12 am Nienaber & Rassie have a few surprises up their sleave. They'll probably do what Dobson does.Select a group of 28 players and change it at the last minute.Sandstorm wrote: ↑Mon Jul 19, 2021 12:34 pmYou think we have enough depth to fake 5-10 starting positions on Thursday and then switch to the best players at the last second?
