Agreed, very telling. I was surprised Aki was even in the squad, nevermind starting in the third test. Just offers very little on attack.

Could have been a different story if Finn Russell was fit to play more.

The problem arises when the other team tries to out Bok the Boks. All that happens is that you get a poorer spectacle for the casual viewer and the Boks invariably win.

Aki was only there to match de Allende in the midfield I think. Which is telling as well. And ja, Finn Russel has been impressive in his cameo, I have to admit. Played full of confidence and with a smile, a joy to watch. He had sustained an injury in the warm up matches, right?!

Yes, achilles tendon I believe.

Greatly looking forward to playing Scotland later this year. Let's hope Sutherland, Watson, Price, Russel and Duhan all feature.

You'll have way too much for us.

Hopefully with more rugby under his belt and a bit of work with De Villiers in the national camp Sutherland can get back to 6N Sutherland rather than the no rugby for 4 months then play a Lions tour not at his best version.

Ah ok, maybe the reason he didnt feature more. Ja Scotland is becoming a force to reckon with, they have some strong players. And those matches at Murrayfield in the autumn are always difficult, we often struggle there.

One of my best rugby memories is watching the teams arrive last time Scotland played the Boks at Murrayfield - in particular the fact that half the SA team had to duck to get through the entrance.

Really looking forward to the autumn game. If Price/Russell/Hogg are on the money in their distribution it should be a cracker of a match.

Rassie definitely won the coaching battle. Gatland played right into his hands.

Every Scot in the Lions squad is a guaranteed starter, unless injured of course.

Will Duhan still be picked when he plays for the English club?

Give an example?

For instance have I constructed a post whereby I single out all the Scottish players and exclusively and blame them for the defeat?
It is not anglophobia it is based in fact! England conceded 67 penalties in the 6Ns this year, equal most along with Italy. They conceded second most scrum penalties as well. Their ill discipline in 6Ns was a major reason for their poor performances and results. I make the point as I think they brought this lack of discipline to the Lions games as well and the also had a major impact on results.

Complete bollocks!
In third test Curry and Itoje both conceded 3 penalties each - most in Lions team. To be fair to Itoje he had been ok up until the last game.

Depends how our latest jockbok starts the season. Schoeman could easily be the starter if he is at his best. Especially if the Lions have a mandatory stand down period.

I keep wondering - what was Gatland’s plan for the 3rd test? If he wasn’t forced to bring Finn on early would we really have just seen more of the same from the first two tests?
It looked like it if the first 10 minutes is anything to go by.

Aye. We don’t have any ‘you must play in Scotland’ rule, which is a good thing as we only have two pro teams. Duhan is our best wing option, so he’ll start.

Possibly. As I said before, if you wanted to surprise the Boks as your way of trying to win, you would name Finn on the bench and brief Biggar to go off at the first little knock he received. And you'd run training mostly with Finn at 10.

I don't know that Gatland (of whom I am not a fan) did that, but I was very pleased it worked out like that.

Gatland had picked Aki FFS. All he wanted to do was bash it up.

Bundee fucking Aki is a test Lion!

OK. Won a turnover. Made more tackles than any other Lion. Made 3rd most metres of any Lion, with joint top carries.

Conceded penalties, yes. Went missing, don't be fucking ridiculous

So if he doesn't produce a performance on par with one that most people seemed to suggest was up there with the very best displays of his career, he's gone missing.

I think you really have to understand that accusing someone of going missing because they didn't perform to their very very best, while still outperforming almost all their colleagues, is a very silly thing to say. Going missing is what, for example, Tom Curry did, or Jack Conan.

He was filth in the first test and the first half of the second test. The second half of the second test he just stood around flapping his arms with a constipated face. He didn't even bother competing in the line outs. The third test he was nowhere. The Boks broke him, destroyed his inner being and made him their plaything. Definitely the best Lions player of the series.

A forward as best Lion of the series is a bit odd, as that essentially means the 9th-best forward on the pitch was the best Lion.

Couldn't really give it to a back, of course, as the first time they saw the ball was in the 12th minute of the 3rd Test.

So by that process of elimination, probably Ali Price should have got it.

Itoje was utterly brilliant in Test 1, no discussion about that; when the Boks were still rusty enough to be well below par.

Itoje is a great player and probably never has a really bad game. But it is somehow the case that in the decisive matches, he isn't able to put his stamp on. Just that extra 1%, leading from the front. And imho he should move to blindside flank, it would suit him even better than the tight 5. And cut out his soccer antics.

:lolno:

The English have totally lost it. It's hilarious. They're not dirty, instead South Africans are now masters of Keyser Soze-esque subterfuge.
I'm a British Lions supporter but not English, don't forget its 4 nations you north African Cunt.
Dear clive,

I was replying to someone who was presumably English (I'm guessing "Saint" refers to the Northampton Saints) who claimed Mostert lied about Sinkler biting him, "Lions" is not a country. Going by your post I must admit some Welsh totally lost it also.

But back to my post you replied to, the citing report has now been published, and the finding was Sinkler accidentally bit Mostert, the bite could be proven but not the intent. An incredible conclusion.
The outcome of Kyle Sinckler’s disciplinary hearing has been published, with the panel indicating that while his teeth made contact with Mostert’s arm, it wasn’t deliberate.

Sinckler was cited after the second Test between the British & Irish Lions and Springboks, but was free to play in the final Test after a lack of evidence his case was dismissed.

Although there was a mark present on Mostert’s arm, Sinckler denied the claim he had bitten Mostert. He instead argued that the Springbok lock was holding him into the ruck and that is why his teeth made contact with Mostert’s arm.

His defence posited that the contact with Sinckler’s teeth “occurred during the moving dynamics between the players in the ruck”. They specifically stated that “the mark resulted from contact with Mostert’s skin travelling across or being forced into, the exposed teeth of Sinckler, who did not wear a gum shield”.

In his evidence, Mostert said that he had experienced sharp pain and “felt a player from the British & Irish Lions biting” his forearm. His response was to call out, “You’re f***ing biting!”

Match referee Ben O’Keeffe said that although he was alerted to the incident at the next stoppage in play, he did not see any bite marks at that time.

South African team doctor Mampane concluded that the bite mark was caused by a human bite, but acknowledged that he was not sufficiently qualified to express an opinion on the mechanism of contact that caused the mark.

The judicial committee were therefore required, in the absence of video evidence, to determine whether, on the balance of probabilities, Sinckler had deliberately bitten Mostert. They determined that he hadn’t and the prop was therefore cleared to take part in the final Test.

Sorry, am I the only one who thinks the Lions pack did an excellent job in the final Test? Plenty of possession and territory thanks to their efforts. If the SA pack was so superior I'd have expected them to get somewhere close to parity of possession at the very least, and not miss as many tackles as they did, or cough up a maul try, or not be so shite at their own lineouts.

The Lions were lucky to have 1) played all 3 tests at Cape Town stadium. They would have been minced at altitude on the harder pitches.
2) Played the Boks minus PSDT and Faf for 2 matches, Duane Vermeulen and RG Snyman. 3. The Boks had a shocking build up. And many of them (those playing in the SA domestic league) have had very little top class rugby for over a year.

The playing surface made scrummaging a bit difficult and would have been closer to Northern Hemisphere conditions.

I thought Itoje was great .But I would play him at blindside flanker every day. Him and Furlong were my two Lions forwards of the series. The guy has a great engine and covers huge amounts of ground. But he is no Retallick or Etzebeth and doesn't have a huge impact when the game gets really tight.

OK well in these hypothetical games against a different pack in a different location with a different build up, I'm sure it would have been different.

I didn't "claimed he lied" I inferred he could have made it up....which isn't unknown
It would appear that Sinckler is a lucky boy!
