Cracking game. Fernandez did well to battle back into it.
Definitely Raducanu’s toughest challenge so far, but the quality of tennis she produced was outstanding. To win without dropping a set over 10 games is completely insane.
All bets off now for SPOTY this year; the BBC might as well give it to her now.

Some more insane stats:
Emma’s professional tennis career only began in full three months ago.
She has never been a direct entrant to a grand slam main draw.
she is yet to play a tour-level three set match and she has not even won a match at a WTA tour event.
She started the summer ranked 366th and the 12th-ranked British player; She is now the world No 23 and the British No. 1
This is only her second grand slam main draw appearance and no woman in the Open era had ever won in so few attempts.
She is the first British woman to win a grand slam title since Virginia Wade’s Wimbledon victory in 1977.
She is the first qualifier, man or woman, to win a grand slam title.
At 18, she is the youngest grand slam champion since Maria Sharapova in 2004.
Her first senior tour win is the US Open.
It’s mad.
I think and hope that the next ten years will be her and Fernandez knocking lumps off each other. Because if it is, it could be a golden age of women’s tennis.

And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?
Pretty incredible. It's amazing to think that at 18 years old and having just turned professional, she could retire from tennis and never pick up a racquet ever again and would still be rich, famous and will have achieved something that will more than likely never be repeated.

Let's not forget Ashleigh Barty and Naomi 0saka (hoping she is back playing soon), both of whom are in their early-20s. It will be some golden age.

I know that a Canadian girl recently won the US open who was of Romanian stock, now there is Radacanu. Does Romania have a good pedigree in tennis? I know the Czechs were really good at tennis but never thought of Romania as a hotbed of tennis talent.
Depends if you think Romanian genes mean anything. She's probably never stepped foot in Romania.
her two tennis idols are simona halep (romanian player) and Li Na (chinese tennis player). she speaks chinese and visits family in china. she loves watching taiwanese mandarin soapies. she holds both canadian and british nationality
She goes to Romania '2 or 3 times a year' and you think that's IIRC?
You don't.
For some reason he’s desperate to claim that she’s not really British.Kawazaki wrote: ↑Sun Sep 12, 2021 10:51 amCalculon wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 8:53 pmIIRC she goes there 2 to 3 times a year to visit family and stay with her grandmother. she also says she loves romanian food and credits her work ethic to her romanian and chinese heritage

Why on earth do you think she would have never set foot inside Romania? Does that really make any sense. And I do recall correctlyKawazaki wrote: ↑Sun Sep 12, 2021 10:51 amCalculon wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 8:53 pmIIRC she goes there 2 to 3 times a year to visit family and stay with her grandmother. she also says she loves romanian food and credits her work ethic to her romanian and chinese heritage

Raducanu is also close to her father's side of the family, always finding time for her grandmother Romania, whom she loves to visit quite often. She had once said in an interview, “My grandma, Mamiya, still lives in central Bucharest. I go back a couple times a year, stay with her, see her. It’s really nice. I love the food, to be honest. I mean, the food is unbelievable. And my grandma’s cooking is also something special. I do have ties to Bucharest
2 sides of the same coin. Pathetic people who can't accept she is British and pathetic people who get upset if her non British heritage is brought upLobby wrote: ↑Sun Sep 12, 2021 11:06 amFor some reason he’s desperate to claim that she’s not really British.Kawazaki wrote: ↑Sun Sep 12, 2021 10:51 amCalculon wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 8:53 pm

I have in mind it was commented Becker's win at Wimbledon was also his 2nd Wimbledon. And Becker was physically very developed and playing against people who barely knew where the gym was never mind actually used it. Granted what Becker did was still amazing stuff, just not quite as amazing
Yeah, they only seeded 1-16 at that point.
