PR Weirdos
This place had promise but the lack of traffic (posts per day) is what has probably sent people back to PR.Gumboot wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 7:59 amDamn straight.Ymx wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 7:57 amWould be great to have a few more NZ posters over here to talk rugby.Monkey Magic wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 7:13 am Dark disappeared, put Mutton on ignore and avoid the covid /bimbo/dozy /mick threads and its OK.
Have found too few if the nz posters made it here and stayed to talk all blacks, but the non rugby threads here seem a bit cleaner. And once you take out the nutters posts on pr there's probably similar volumes of traffic

If Bimbo makes a comment which is patently false, then it needs to be contested.
Otherwise it becomes currency.
That currency is valid only with the people who believe his idiocy.
Back in the nineties, before the www, I subscribed to a service called CIX (IIRC the subscription fee was 500 quid a year!), which allowed me to access forums largely populated with knowledgeable, if sometimes irascible, people who were of great assistance to me in my work.Kiwias wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 1:00 am

Subsequently, the world-wide-web happened, and, with a nominal fee to an ISP, that small group of experts expanded exponentially, which was generally regarded as a pretty favourable development, as indeed it was.
However, the downside is that everybody+dog can present themselves as experts on any and all topics and, no matter how batshit crazy your beliefs are, you can always find a plethora of sources which support them.
So, what was initially a hugely beneficial development became something far more sinister.
You only have to look at the Bill Gates/Fauci/5G/population control conspiracy theories regarding the vaccine to understand the damage that it can do.
Hence, I feel that, if you don't contest the misinformation, you contribute to it.
You’re wasting your time here. You’ve plenty of work to do on PR and on Twitter. Keep fighting the good fight.Rinkals wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 5:33 amBack in the nineties, before the www, I subscribed to a service called CIX (IIRC the subscription fee was 500 quid a year!), which allowed me to access forums largely populated with knowledgeable, if sometimes irascible, people who were of great assistance to me in my work.

You're clearly a clever chap.
Shirley you can see that for him, it's Pathological. By Engaging him, you only encourage him.
There aren't enough people on the bored to "convince", those days are long gone
I'm with Kiwias, refuting disinformation on a meaningful scale is admirable, but very different from engaging with a few WUMs on tiny niche sports forums. It's not as if any of the bored cretins are coming up with new, dangerous conspiracy theories that are likely to go viral. They're not worth bothering with, for mine.

At the moment it isn't a nice place for Saffers. All the Aussie woke up and join in with the Kiwis/ Fleewees /Irish/English/Scots and troll anything about Springbokke.
Maybe a flounce bet against the All Blacks will shake a few features.

Russell appears to corroborate my hypothesis, namely that if the existence of the teapot is accepted through repeated affirmation and a lack of rigorous examination, it becomes accepted as fact. Or, in Russell's words "the existence of such a teapot were affirmed in ancient books, taught as the sacred truth every Sunday, and instilled into the minds of children at school, hesitation to believe in its existence would become a mark of eccentricity and entitle the doubter to the attentions of the psychiatrist in an enlightened age or of the Inquisitor in an earlier time."Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 9:53 amFFS. If the existence of the teapot becomes accepted as fact through indoctrination, repeated affirmation or simply because it confirms the prejudices of the reader, then it becomes difficult to refute.
God knows, I have tried, but if everybody else is refusing to engage, then it's just me against Bimbo's army.Ymx wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 7:24 amYou’re wasting your time here. To paraphrase a quote, you can't reason someone out of a position they didn't reason their way into. At a certain point you have to evaluate whether what you're doing is a worthwhile use of your time.Rinkals wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 10:58 amGod knows, I have tried, but if everybody else is refusing to engage, then it's just me against Bimbo's army.Ymx wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 7:24 amYou’re wasting your time here. None of the above argues against Bimbo being Pathological in his contrarianism - it's a waste of time to argue with himRinkals wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 11:05 amOn the contrary, I don't see Bimbo posting on here much*.mat the expat wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 7:26 amYou're clearly a clever chap.

I went over to see what all the fuss was about as I never read or posted there. I read a thread about the keto diet as I’ve just started it. The character mentioned here chimed in of course, I don’t think I’ve ever encountered anyone so impervious to reason or evidence.
Anyway, there was a very funny comment about racehorses posted in that thread today.

Listen, and understand. It (sic) is out there, it can’t be bargained with, it can’t be reasoned with, it doesn’t feel pity or remorse or fear, and it absolutely will not stop…EVER, until you are dead!Tichtheid wrote: ↑Tue Sep 21, 2021 8:39 am I went over to see what all the fuss was about as I never read or posted there. Indeed.
But they gather more and more loons to howl with them.
If misinformation is allowed to be represented as the truth, then it will find adherents for whom it resonates and the lie will only get bigger.
I tried to explain in an earlier post that the proliferation of information on the internet has a sinister side and it's the ease at which misinformation can be presented as the truth.

Literally nobody on PR will change their view by you engaging Bimbot
I still think that falsehoods and misrepresentations should be challenged.
I mainly post on PR but have I'm losing patience recently because of all the obvious reasons. TBH I think both places are going to die soon.
There is no traffic here, and the trolls and wierdos are slowly driving any decent posters away from PR. A good few have been lost in the past year. I don't think ignoring helps either - every second post is just "Dozy/DAC/Bimbo/etc/etc is on your ignore list show this post" and It doesn't hide threads or quoted posts.
This split is another factor that is killing it. Lots of decent posters came here which has sucked the life away. And no new posters are going to ever find this place (or the old place anyway, I'm surprised there is still a link to it on the main site)
Forums have had their day, we are going to be stuck with reddit and shit which are just low attention span groupthink bubbles with no real discussion.
