What's happening in every match I've seen, is the SA team gets blown away early on then comes back in later after the match is lost. Like I said in my previous post the SA conditioning looks wrong for this competition, we're getting steamrollered early but then remaining in the game longer and doing something later on/at the end. If our sides were just rubbish it would be backwards for the full 80 minutes, but it's not going that way. In Super Rugby it often came down to the last 20 minutes when scores could swing wildly, teams were conditioned to still be explosive by the end of the match because if they were just all huge they would tire in the second half when the match really started and lose. Seems to be the reverse in this competition, lots of power coming at the SA sides early on and not as much by the end.

There also seems to be a skills deficit, but that's because the teams are loaded with rookies who don't have much experience at this level (other than the Bulls maybe).

I think the commentators made a good point in the last game; that the leaders on the pitch weren't doing enough to organize the less experienced players, & keep the defensive line organized.

When you've players with the experience of Ruan; I'd expect him to be very vocal, when he knows how dangerous a side Glasgow can bee, if you leave gaps for them to run at & offload.

Ruan like most SA players has never been someone that's talking all the time on the pitch, on loan from the Cheetahs for this tour so he only met the other players a few weeks ago. Not really ideal for him to be directing things, when he's new to the systems and players himself, would rather have him than not though.

These guys have come off a CC competition where they often played every 5 days. Covid resulted in a real weird schedule for the Currie Cup. The Sharks played 10 matches in 74 days. No byes. Just prior to that they played 6 matches in the Rainbow cup.

Their conditioning is definitely off. Many of these guys have played 16 games in as many weeks. A big guy like say Eben Etz will lose kilograms of muscle during a campaign like that. Small niggling injuries will have a huge impact especially on the forwards.

Having said that I still believe the Saffer teams poor showing is due to inexperience and coaching naivete. We're paying our school fees here. These losses and minutes are all currency to be banked and will start to bear fruit sooner rather than later.

Hard to choose. My grandpa was from Lockerbie and went to school in Glasgow. I spent many happy months in Edinburgh with a girl who worked in a pub in the Grassmarket. So I have a soft spot for both those teams.
