How much rugby do you watch?
I found it hard to watch even one full game on a Saturday. There was a time (now quite distant) when I gobbled up almost every single game broadcasted.

I was the same, now I take or leave it. Six nations and Autumn internationals basically, and the Summer tour.
Whenever Wales play.
It is hard to be into spectator sports, when you now have things like VR and can fly a Bell Huey helicopter, go shoot missiles at enemy emplacements and escape and land on a tiny boat at sea, and get out and walk around the flight deck. and be convinced you are there
How on earth can Newport V Ebbw Vale on a rainy Friday night compete with that?

My interest is basically restricted to test rugby (even when my own country is not involved). So, I'll also watch the 6 Nations. Not interested in non-international rugby in other countries. I may also watch the odd local derby but that's about it.

If you have watched rugby long enough, like any sport, you have pretty much seen it all anyway.
I am just fed up of the Punditry and the one sided narratives these Pundits seem to have to create.
For example,
If Wales are favourites to win and England are favourites to lose the narrative after the match is how close England came. That will be the story. How close England came, aren't they awesome. Litterally anything not to say Wales played well and deserved to win.
If Wales are favourites to lose and they somehow win, it is always about how poor England played or it will be some refereeing decision or controversy, litterally anything not to say Wales played well and deserved to win.
If England win a match they are expected to win, it will be just how awesome English rugby is.
It is litterally like there are about 200 Marketing and PR people employed by the RFU (or whatever union) to create these narratives to feed supporters so they will forever be hopeful.
It is a real turnoff how aggressive it all is.

As a rule: Almost all All Black matches. Most Blues matches, and most Super rugby games played in NZ in general. I watch the odd Mitre 10 cup game.
In addition, I'll take in the odd 6 Nations game, and watch all the highlights of those. I've gotten into watching highlights of Top 14 and Premiership games as well. My hunger for rugby remains pretty insatiable. In fact, I think my hunger for rugby is growing.
I used to be cricket mad, but that really waned over the years. I don't know some members of the NZ cricket team now, although I assume Chris Harris is still playing.

All 6N, all Edinburgh and Glasgow and selected Pro14 games, the odd premiership if there's no Pro14, all Scotland tests. Out of desperation I'm trying to be awake in time to watch the Aotearoa and AU games. Really not fussed about the Lions while Gatland is in charge.

All England games, most Quins games, the Super Rugby game on first thing Saturday morning (NZ game) and one or two others. I work round the kids.
Interesting post. Why do you think your interest in the cricket subsided?FujiKiwi wrote: ↑Sat Aug 01, 2020 11:12 am As a rule: Almost all All Black matches. Most Blues matches, and most Super rugby games played in NZ in general. I watch the odd Mitre 10 cup game.

Other than England games the 6N is the cornerstone of my rugby watching experience, it was how I was introduced to the game (well, technically the 5 nations) and in an ever changing world it feels like one of the few institutions that provide a sense of constancy and permanence.
Other than that I like to catch as much rugby as I can but its hit and miss based on what I have going on at the time and whether the specific game is of interest to me.
In normal times I watch all 6N and England Internationals plus sometimes other UK/ Ireland Internationals, pretty well all Premiership games (or at least highlights), the odd Pro-however many games, plus some SH Rugby. I’m really enjoying the Aotearoa games in the absence of everything else. RWC games, of course.
Oh, mustn’t forget my local Level 7 club, if it’s not pissing down too badly. A lorra lorra Rugby

Still watch most SR and Tests. Some NH club rugby. I find these days that I don't remember a lot of the matches unlike the old days when J coukd remember what happened in what game.
Yeah, that happens to me too I put it down to inflation.CrazyIslander wrote: ↑Sat Aug 01, 2020 7:38 pm Still watch most SR and Tests. Some NH club rugby. I find these days that I don't remember a lot of the matches unlike the old days when J coukd remember what happened in what game.
Pretty much the same with rugby but I am taping and watching the Aussie stuff too at the moment.FujiKiwi wrote: ↑Sat Aug 01, 2020 11:12 am As a rule: Almost all All Black matches. Most Blues matches, and most Super rugby games played in NZ in general. I watch the odd Mitre 10 cup game.

As for cricket, I cannot get enough - hell, I will even watch T20 if there is nothing else.
I drink and I forget things.
I watch SR, both NZ and Au, Mitre 10 cup, ABs, 6N, all live where possible though 6N tends to be recorded, and highlights of a lot of Premiership and Top 14.
Cricket: I watch as much as I can, trying to make up for the lost years when there was no internet and no coverage in Japan at all.

I watch all Scotland games, which is more than any human should have to endure, and all 6N games.
Now and then I'll watch a Pro14 game, but not that bothered. Never really watch Premiership or that SH nonsense.
World Cup and Lions of course.
Will watch the autumn games but don't get very excited about it.
Apart from going to Murrayfield, or away 6N games, I get more pleasure out of going to my local club on a Saturday than the rest to be honest.

All the money you made will never buy back your soul
Pretty much this, I'll record Embra, Weegies, Scotland and Lions if I'm working. I'll watch the odd premiership or Top14 match especially if there's high profile jocks playing. All the AIs if possible.dkm57 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 01, 2020 12:08 pm All 6N, all Edinburgh and Glasgow and selected Pro14 games, the odd premiership if there's no Pro14, all Scotland tests. Won't get up too early for the SH stuff though

I watch every Crusaders, Canterbury and All Blacks match. Not always live, sometimes I record it if I have other commitments and watch later. I have watched every game of Super Rugby Aotearoa which has been really cool. That's only two matches a weekend, but it's been nice to follow a comp so closely, even if it is only a 5 team comp.

All NH internationals and the Friday night Prem game. Will go and watch live games (largely Championship) once a month or so. Other games if I'm at a loose end. Can't say I watch much SH rugby - no dog in the fight.

Before lock down I loved to watch schoolboy rugby. Its by far the best.
Then its Springbokke, WP/Stormers and SA teams if I have the time.
I do enjoy watching the English Premier Soccer league.

I'll certainly be watching a bit more of it next season after this morning's result.Sandstorm wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 3:09 pmShameOomStruisbaai wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 2:06 pm

In the last year or so, not a lot of full matches. Just the odd one if it's teams I like, and even if I heard the result but knew a lot of tries were scored. I've grown to dislike all the systems-heavy / patterns of play I can't un-see, especially when players are stood out in their pods waiting for the next phase and they'd have bust through if they were in a more organic / read the play support position.
I will watch a full battery of highlights from the English and Super leagues. Even watch all the NRL highlights.
The AB youtube channel recently posted a full schools match. More of this, please!!!

When there is rugby to watch I usually try to watch 1 or 2 full matches a weekend, and then just the highlights of as many other matches as I can find.
I’ve come to the point where I am less and less interested in the matches and outcomes, and more interested in the innovations that various coaches are bringing to the game at various levels...innovating in terrific ways with the resources or lack of resources they have.

Honestly when all the sports got shutdown during covid I assumed I'd be raring to go for some sporting action when things came back, but instead it seems going cold turkey on sports has kind of turned me off on the whole thing. I made it through a few rounds of SRA, which is more than I can say for the NBA...think I turned that off after about 5 minutes. Haven't even checked the scores tbh. Feel like I'm just burning daylight.
Not sure where to go from here honestly. Bit of a sunk cost fallacy but the amount of time I've spent on this shit makes walking away feel odd...but watching doesn't feel any better.
Am I alone on this?

This is the sort of soulless bullying garbage that runs people off the forum. What could possibly possess someone to be enough of an arsehole to even type something like this out and direct it at another human being? Why do you do it? Oh, that's right, because you can.

I commend your honesty. You're showing a lot more integrity than your countrymen who feel the same but instead insist that the SH rugby somehow lacks character or some other bullshit.Paddington Bear wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 12:28 pm All NH internationals and the Friday night Prem game.
