So I've backed a few games in the last year or so on Kickstarter. This week I backed Beast, which I have really high hopes for - looks stunning and prototype reviews suggest really nice game play. Developed by two Swedish brothers. Scheduled for arrival late summer next year.

Nope. You essentially pay up front for a copy of the game at some unspecified date in the future. These campaigns do usually have Kickstarter-exclusive content, like nicer components or extra game modes which will not be part of the eventual retail version. And I do know folks who buy two and keep one wrapped in the hope that one day it will become a sought-after collector's item.

Mind you, there can be serious gains in games. I have a full play set of the very first Tolkien-themed collectible card game that was released in the mid-to-late 90's. One expansion set in particular I bought back in the day for about £30 is now worth £400.

But for me it's about playing these games.

Do you guys know, or like, Bremont watches?

I got given the VIP treatment from them a couple of years back with a mate of mine. Little did they know I am skint, but he has since bought one.

A niche brand: I only know about them at all because of their links to military aircraft so they keep punting me emails. I suspect if you removed the name of the aircraft from the faces, they'd be much of a muchness.

Mainly it is just a fascination with the watches themselves. Experiencing the different qualities and designs and enjoying wearing them. I have probably owned over 100 watches in my life, most of which I have worn for a while and then moved on for something new, rarely losing any money, often making a wee profit and on one occasion making a very substantial profit.

Currently I have 6 watches, two Rolex, an Omega, a Cartier, a Girard Perregaux and a Seiko SKX. The first 3 will be very decent long term investments, the next two will not lose me any money, and even the Seiko will creep up as it is a discontinued classic. Instead of sitting looking at my money in the bank or in stocks and shares I would rather enjoy indulging myself a bit.

Oddly the wife has suggested buying them in the past as store of value but I don't invest in things I have too little expertise in. I suggested she buy women's watches then but she was correct to point out the demand for men's watches was far more reliable! So maybe you have explained it: it's an indulgence that costs nothing as long as you are prepared to sell.

Whilst I immediately notice what watch someone else is wearing I know full well that 99% of the population will never notice what watch I am wearing and I really couldn't care, I wear the watches for my own pleasure not in an attempt to impress. If I wanted to impress I would spunk my money on expensive cars.
And yes you are right, I know that eventually either myself or my kids will sell them. These are big financial commitments for me so I am very selective in what I buy with a view to them all being good investments as well as beautiful things.

Can I point out I wasn't criticising I was genuinely interested in (basically) mens desire to collect. I have a Omega Constellation (A levels) Tag (Wedding Present) and Rolex (one of my fathers Arab patients). I don't wear any of them

I've mentioned in the other place that I looked at Bremonts for my sons' 21sts. Eventually went with an IWC for one and a Tudor for the other. One of the main reasons being that a decent number of people have heard of these brands, but only watch aficionados have heard of Bremont. There's no point in giving them a decent brand unless people know it is a decent brand.

I bought my wife a gold and steel Cartier Santos Galbee when our first child was born. She has worn it every day since (even when doing the horses etc) and it is in great nick.

Her will said it had to go to our older son. She hates his long term girlfriend and has changed her will so there is no way any of her sentimental items, including this watch, are going to him so she'll never get them.

No criticism taken. Yeah it probably is bonkers. I drive a white van and spend the square root of f all on clothes but enjoy watches that are probably way beyond what is should spend. I don't really see myself as a collector to be honest as I wear all my watches. Definitely though there is an element of 'you can't take it with you'.

I inherited my dad's Ulysse Nardin and a while ago the winding handle broke. I don't mind sending it away for a repair, but want somewhere reputable. I realise that it's going to cost a bloody fortune, but one quote from a place in london came in at about 80% of the watch's value (which is approx £7k)

A massive bloody sink, though to be fair, I have now got myself to the idea that having a big sink is a smart thing, little things go in the dishwasher, leaving the big awkward things that need doing in a sink, so having a big sink makes sense.

Samsung having a good deal on them for blue light card holders, down to £1349, plus another £300 cashback. Couldn't resist. Was looking at either spending £400 on a tv that'd just get the job done, or going upto about £1k for something that will hopefully stop me getting TV envy at any point So I guess that's that.

Still need to get the tumble dryer (heat pump tumble dryer, the cousin of the hoover washer, I know they're slower, but the price differences in running them to a regular condenser looks huge), and going for the bosch serie 2 dishwasher I think. Then a load of other bits and pieces! And there'll be a new kitchen, floor etc.

I actually only needed the pole saw, but by the time I bought that and batteries, the chainsaw bare was not much more.

I have used the chainsaw a surprising amount. Rather than mixing fuel and firing up the Stihl, it is so easy to just roll this out. So I use it for little jobs that would otherwise not get done, or left till there were a few to do together. It is also great when the wood is dirty as the self sharpening means I don't have to stop and change or sharpen the chain. It probably means I am going to go through a lot of chain.

Bought a seiko flightmaster..love the thing. Dome'd crystal, 200m of water resistance,. It is a real strap monster too, though I actually like the stainless steel bracelet it came on,that everyone says you should get rid of.
