Irishers, this doesn’t sound like a tremendous deal. Are you ok with this?
So, coronavirus...

Approx €100 per annum per person over the next 30 years. Yeah I can live with that.
It'll more than likely balance out with some funds thrown our way after Brexit is all done and dusted.

You’re kidding. This is just the starter. Once Greece, Italy, France, Spain... get a taste of your sweet handouts they’ll be back for more. Lots more.Leinsterman wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 5:24 pm Approx €100 per annum per person over the next 30 years. Yeah I can live with that.

There was a time when our Irish friends were happy to talk Brexit anywhere and anytime.......
Agreed - I have only had one client take it and watching him trying to kick it was bloody awful.dpedin wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 12:03 pm Oxycontin is worse! When my Dad went onto Oxycontin he rapidly developed severe dementia symptoms. Took a week or two for the symptoms to fade after he was taken off them as well. Made me wonder how many people are in care with dementia due to oxycontin without anyone making the connection.Enzedder wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 9:07 pmAgreed - I have only had one client take it and watching him trying to kick it was bloody awful.dpedin wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 12:03 pm Oxycontin is worse! Sky News have been running a story about the 90 min Covid DNA test all day. It looks like they will plan to build a DNA database of the whole nation by stealth under the guise of Covid19 testing. Can't see them not keeping the data.

I don't share your blind faith in the establishment. The data is gold. I can see it being sold differently and the usual will swallow it all.Longshanks wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 10:05 pmThat would be illegal thoughGaltsdrift wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 9:57 pm Sky News have been running a story about the 90 min Covid DNA test all day. I take it you were watching the Covid press conferences each day and was swallowing the rubbish the government has been spouting from the start. I personally think they are full of it and the biggest casualty of this whole affair has been the credibility of our government, both internally and internationally.

I don’t think its used much here. Don't have any stats but purely anecdotally its not a drug I see many people on.Biffer wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2020 9:45 pmWhen my Dad went onto Oxycontin he rapidly developed severe dementia symptoms. Having a cold in this environment is a confusing experience
Haven't seen anyone with as much as a sniffle since March. Maybe people with a cold stay in more or with the Covid 19 mask and distancing practices it's not as viral as it usually is.mat the expat wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 1:04 am Having a cold in this environment is a confusing experience

Fairly surprised, but not surprised, that there has been very little debate about the fact that most of the areas being locked down in the UK have a large Asian population. There are quite a few reasons for why this should be but no one seems to want to talk about it.
All the money you made will never buy back your soul
OK, the Director of Public Health for Blackburn (a predominantly white city) says 79% of cases have been amongst the Asian community. Week ending 26th July, of 1369 positive tests in England 37% were Asian (7.5% of the population).
Manchester is overwhelmingly white so you would expect that wouldn't you?

Stats with no context are pretty meaningless, for example, could it be that the Asian community have a greater sense of family and therefore have been less stringent in their social distancing practices, a single superspreader could cause carnage in that type of situation. Were there any Asian focused events that could have caused greater gatherings of Asian people allowing the virus to spread easier? Simple stats like that are meat and drink for Trumpanzees and their ilk, gives them an easy excuse to practice their particular form of politics.
Well, yes, exactly. Which is why it needs to be talked about.ASMO wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 8:22 am Stats with no context are pretty meaningless, for example, could it be that the Asian community have a greater sense of family and therefore have been less stringent in their social distancing practices, a single superspreader could cause carnage in that type of situation. OK but what do you actually want to talk about? You're saying we should discuss it, and seem to have some ideas of why the stats are as they are, but you're not actually writing these ideas down. Don't make us guess!Slick wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 8:13 amOK, the Director of Public Health for Blackburn (a predominantly white city) says 79% of cases have been amongst the Asian community. If cultural differences are causing covid to spread faster, is talking about that racist? I'm not sure anymore.Slick wrote: ↑Tue Aug 04, 2020 8:25 amWell, yes, exactly. Bozo's £10bn "world beating" contract tracing systern run by his crony appointee Lady Harding still failing miserably
Blackburn with Darwen council, in Lancashire, set up its own virus-hunting team after the national system failed to reach hundreds of its most vulnerable residents.
Dominic Harrison, the council’s director of public health, said the government programme was “simply not tracing enough cases and contacts fast enough”.
The move reflects growing frustration among local health officials with the national test-and-trace system, which was launched in May as a central plank of the strategy to ease England out of lockdown. The NHS system, which is run by the former TalkTalk executive Dido Harding, involves more than 20,000 contact tracers employed by private firms such as Serco and Sitel.

I'm not necessarily saying we on NPR need to talk about it more, I'm not sure we are going to make a difference. But when there is an obvious issue it is ludicrous that the government and other agencies are being largely silent on it. The one MP that raised it, in a pretty clumsy way to be fair, was shouted down as racist. Boris pulls back in some areas, accused of targetting Eid.
It needs to be talked about to educate and assist these communites, the wider population and, frankly, to nip in the bud any easy narrative for the real racists - there are many factors why this is happening larger households, many working in front line positions, many working in shite environments, many not getting the information and some just not giving a shit.
