Better than season 1 imho. I found the different time lines in season 1 confusing, but apart from that I think the characters develop very nicely in season 2, with a proper WTF? reveal at the end.
The best new and returning TV series thread
Ok, this shows is nuts. Starts out seeming normal nuts. Then it cranks it up.
It’s brilliant, am weirdly hooked on it now.

Wheel of time
Book fans seem to absolutely detest it. Thought it was alright myself.
Got as far as book 7 or 8 I think.

Me and the missus are enjoying it. I've not read the books because it's an umpteen thousand page commitment, but for me the show despite being a bit cliched scratches the epic fantasy itch.Uncle fester wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 10:09 am Wheel of time

Enjoying the Dexter reboot. I only lasted to Season 4 of the original. Not many shows are any good after the fourth season imo.
Watched the first episode last night. Thought it was excellent, nivellen cast really well and vereena was done fantastically.Uncle fester wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 1:19 pmWorking through it. Pretty good watch so far.
For anyone familiar with the Vereena + Nivellen, the show has done it quite well. Vereena is proper freaky.
Been a while since I read the books but the main story arc has deviated from the books hasn't it? Looking forward to binging the rest when this set of shifts is finished.
Half way through s2 and I've revised my opinion on the social issues. Think it's well done all in.Marylandolorian wrote: ↑Mon Dec 20, 2021 10:47 pmSeason 1 was great, s2 was ok, overall I like it, interesting counterfactual scenario.
Its on Sky on the Drama channel. But can download all seasons apart from season five for some reason.
It's quite light hearted. Don't expect anything complex

Trouble with the books that the fanatics don't seem to want to acknowledge is how dated they are, especially with their lack of nuance to good/evil.robmatic wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 10:34 amMe and the missus are enjoying it. Can you actually say "darkfriend" with a straight face these days?
GRRM has his issues but he was excellent at creating characters who existed on a spectrum rather than simply "you bad, me good".
The Witcher writer is very good at this also. The royals in his books are total c*nts but they are doing it for a reason.

I'm not a huge Star Wars fan but I really enjoyed the first episode of The Book of Boba Fett. Temuera Morrison stars as the titular character.
Ms MungoSpouse & I have been watching it for a longish while, i.e. when it was first shown on FTA TV in Straya, and via on-demand services more recently. We both think it's a hoot and we're both Strayan-born.
Well there you go... glad it appeals... I thought it might be a bit niche..

Latest and last series of Bosch, episode 1: Narco tells Bosch and J Edgar that a dealer was like a female Stringer Bell, then asks J Edgar (Jamie Hector who played Marlo Stanfield) if he watched 'The Wire'

I didn't go mad for it on first sight, but on reflection thought it was pretty good.FalseBayFC wrote: ↑Wed Dec 29, 2021 10:25 am I'm not a huge Star Wars fan but I really enjoyed the first episode of The Book of Boba Fett. Temuera Morrison stars as the titular character.
The Ray Harryhausen monster was really cool, and I like the idea that Fett is still nowhere near his best, needing to be dumped in the bacta tank after strenuous exertions.

Not really on topic but I found this clip pretty cool. I'm not sure if its just nostalgia but TV was so much cooler back then. I loved Hill Street Blues, Miami Vice, LA Law etc. The favourite TV show was a family gathering, streaming has changed that completely. Friday 8pm was always a Western serial. The High Chapparal was my favourite it was aired in SA probably around 1979, years after its US release.

They didn't mention him, but was Kyra Sedgwick talking to Phil Collins in that clip?FalseBayFC wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 5:43 am Not really on topic but I found this clip pretty cool. You're right indeed.
Philip David Charles "Phil" Collins (born January 30, 1951) is a British singer, songwriter, drummer, and actor who appeared in the show Miami Vice as Phil Mayhew, a long-time con man who brings his cons to the United States in "Phil the Shill". His song "Life Is a Rat Race" also features in the episode.

Boba Fett episode 2 was great! Creepy incesty Hutt twins, evil Wookie, lore expansion, Babel Lizard/In your face, Space Coyote, the forging of the stick and Lawrence of Tatooine. Top notch.

It was hugely entertaining. I got notes of Dances with Wolves and Tom Cruise from the Last Samurai. Its interesting to think that most Millennials and Gen Z's won't pick up the various nods to the Western genre.Hal Jordan wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 11:12 pm Boba Fett episode 2 was great! There was even a Dune like reference to the spice mining/smuggling on that train thingFalseBayFC wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 5:43 amIt was hugely entertaining. Definitely and literally Dances With Tuskens, although Fett is shown to be bringing new ideas rather than the White Guy Beats Noble Natives At Their Own Game After 10 Minutes Study trope (yes, I know Morrison isn't a White Guy).

Can't help but think that should've been the first episode, the first one was so poor by comparison.Hal Jordan wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 11:12 pm Boba Fett episode 2 was great! They should have done either a double header release (like Hawkeye) or just made the two episodes into the blockbuster show opener, twice as long as a usual episode.

We enjoyed that. Can't beat a good scandi drama.ScarfaceClaw wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 9:23 pmIn a similar vein, Chestnut Man on Netflix. Am only a couple of episodes into it but it’s quite good so far.
Not sure it's been mentioned already, but all episodes of the mini-series 'The Tourist' are now on BBC iPlayer.
Fun mix of drama with the randomly absurd, in the mad setting of the Ozzie outback.
Not perfect, but enjoyable and a bit different.

It’s dropped, watched most of it. Only 6 x 30 mins.
It’s regressed back to the I’m miserable, moping, drinking, watching loads of videos of ex wife, and I will be a cunt to everyone.

Will have to watch the last series of 'The Expanse' now the whole series is up - just 6 episodes this time. A pity there are no plans for further series as 'Persepolis Rising' is an interesting read so far ( one third of the way through) but as
Spoiler
Show
it takes place after a 30 year gap I can see why they don't plan to continue with the show

Ozark Season 4 kicks off next week. I normally lose interest by season 4 of just about everything I've watched. But I enjoyed the first 3 seasons hugely.
