This is a big factor. It might be a longer, more expensive flight, but the exchange rate will make for an excellent holiday.average joe wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 9:39 am You could have one hell of a party for less than 500 Pounds/Euro. For a longer holiday, that'd be a valid mitigation.
However, for the weekend away trips that are mainstays of the 6 Nations experience spending 24 of the available 48 hours travelling is a complete show stopper.

Give me one good reason why Rome is a better weekend away than Pretoria. I'll wait.sockwithaticket wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 10:01 am For a longer holiday, that'd be a valid mitigation.

It's not worth going that far just for a weekend. Part of the 6 Nations charm is the viability of weekend trips or even just day trips, to the away venues.
Avg flight cost £600!!!!

I'd only spend 5 hours in the air getting to Rome vs. 22 for Pretoria, which, as suggested above, is kind of a big deal when you only have 48 hours available.assfly wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 10:06 amGive me one good reason why Rome is a better weekend away than Pretoria. I wonder how many Saffers would pop over here for a long weekend and a 6N match?
I wonder how many appreciate quite what the cost of that long weekend would be?
Return flights
Onward transport to Edinburgh, Cardiff or even Dublin
Cost of hotels in UK and |reland
General cost of living for food and drink
Cost of tickets (The average cost at Twickenham for a ticket against a 6N match is approximately £120!!!)

There's enough chickenrunners over there to make it worth the while. You don't need us klingons.
It's 11 hours from Heathrow to OR Tambo and less than 500 pounds non-stop, round trip. It will cost you half that for accommodation and entertainment. If that's too rich for you, just do what we poor klingons do and watch it on the telly at home or in the pub. You can still go to Rome, Paris, where ever. Your team will only play one game in SA.

And Twickenham is sold out twice over for the n6N already including the Italian match!

While affordability is not a negligible consideration (it's worth stating that you can easily do a weekend in Paris or Rome for the £500 it would cost to get to South Africa) it's a bit of a red herring. Who gives a shit if accommodation and entertainment are cheap if you're only going to be on the ground for 24 hours (at best) before having to turn around again? Less once you factor in the reason you actually flew out - going to watch the game.average joe wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 11:58 am There's enough chickenrunners over there to make it worth the while. Canada's bloody awesome and it takes a couple of hours less to fly to British Columbia on the far side of the country than it does to any of the South African cities that have been mentioned, but it's still not worth flying out there just for the weekend because after an 18 hour round trip there's just not enough time left to properly take advantage of being there.
To briefly go back to points about money, Mexico or India are places that are cheap once you get there, but, again, they're really fucking far away and it's just not a worthwhile use of time to go there for a weekend.
For a weekend trip, the closer the destination the better.
Apologies, I thought when you quoted him, bolded what he said, and said "Simples" I thought you were backing up his argument that's being used in favour of SA being in the 6N :-)

I'm not convinced they do want to join, they've just got bored of squabbling among themselves and want some new sparring partners.
It would just be 5 weeks of moaning, ref bashing, victimhood and I’ll feeling.
We already have the Welsh
Genuinely though, I wouldn’t want SA supporters anywhere near the 6N. Wrong sort. No thanks

Bollocks. It's 13/14 hours from Glasgow or Edinburgh most of the time. Tell me again how that works into a weekend away - you know, leaving on a Friday afternoon and being back Sunday evening. I can get to Cardiff, London, Dublin and Paris in less than two hours for less than a hundred quid return most of the time. It's true, none of us have to visit. However, we also don't have to admit you to our competition.
