I'm only saying the circuit is boring in the context of F1, because it is. And there are F1 circuits which aren't boring albeit they're the minority.Un Pilier wrote: ↑Mon Aug 10, 2020 5:19 pmBecause the circuit isn’t boring. Formula 1 is boring because it’s virtually impossible to follow within a second or two of another car for any length of time and therefore almost impossible to set up overtaking opportunities unless you are something like two seconds a lap quicker which is a huge margin in F1 terms. As you say, a lot of circuits suffer from this . Can you name a circuit good for overtaking? Silverstone, with it’s wonderful sequences of high speed corners, suffers as much as any. These cars couldn’t even follow closely on an Indycar Oval.Rhubarb & Custard wrote: ↑Mon Aug 10, 2020 4:31 pmI'm not sure why a different classification being different speaks to Silverstone being other than a poor circuit for overtaking in F1. There is a lot to like about the circuit, hopefully changes will come that really deliver improvements, just as things stand it is on the boring side, as actually are a lot of F1 circuits.
The rule changes planned for next year have been delayed until 2022. Even then I doubt they will be sufficient. Until then, if you like proper racing, try F2 is my advice.
I don't however tend to watch racing events other than F1, why I don't know because whilst I love the tech in F1 it's mostly the triumph of hope over reality, so that other events I've no interest in offer better racing just isn't relevant to me.
Where can one watch the F2 other than Sky?Un Pilier wrote: ↑Mon Aug 10, 2020 5:04 pm Speaking of F2, Dan Ticktum doesn’t seem to have matured a whole lot. Pretty embarrassing I thought.
Ilott and Aitkin, on the other hand, still show promise and Mick Schumacher is showing it’s not just the name that got him into F2.
F2 is usually great racing, people, if you haven’t tried it. And you get to see the rising stars before most solely F1 fans. Most recently, Lando, Russell, Gasly, Albon, Latifi and particularly Le Clerc have all featured strongly. It really does sort out the wheat from the chaff.
YouTube is usually an option for highlights or, depending on where you are (or your vpn etc. says you are) F1tv may show full races online.sturginho wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 12:21 pmWhere can one watch the F2 other than Sky?Un Pilier wrote: ↑Mon Aug 10, 2020 5:04 pm Speaking of F2, Dan Ticktum doesn’t seem to have matured a whole lot. That's a bit harsh.
It's not unusual to see a driver/car combination go to shit; & often the explanation is that the design of the car has changed, & now the aero responses doesn't suit their driving style; you're always going to see that in cornering.
I think Ferrari are now; understandably; tailoring the car for LeClerc, & his preferences.
I should add that F1tv usually shows races with a couple of days delay.Un Pilier wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 4:56 pmYouTube is usually an option for highlights or, depending on where you are (or your vpn etc. says you are) F1tv may show full races online.sturginho wrote: ↑Tue Aug 11, 2020 12:21 pmWhere can one watch the F2 other than Sky?Un Pilier wrote: ↑Mon Aug 10, 2020 5:04 pm Speaking of F2, Dan Ticktum doesn’t seem to have matured a whole lot. You will no doubt have heard Stroll seniors comments over the weekend. Not particularly dispassionate about this and I’m not sure how likely he is to make sound decisions about how to proceed. I see this row as being more about the future than the past.

He couldn't drive the Vettel-tailored car Ferrari built for him in 2017 and 2018 either.
I actually thought that Toto's comments on this were far more illuminating
Toto’s a player, no question.Saint wrote: ↑Thu Aug 13, 2020 8:54 amI actually thought that Toto's comments on this were far more illuminating
So, Barcelona. Have Merc got on top of the tyre issues? Twill be hot here - I don’t know what the numbers on the pressures will be. Checo is back.
And Max normally goes well in Barcelona - his first GP win was here when Ham and Rosberg had an incident.

Mercs 1 second clear of Max in first practice so far

Gotta say I’ve really been enjoying F1 of late. I think two seasons of Drive to Survive gave me an insight into the drivers, teams and principals, particularly those mid tier teams battling to stay in the hunt of the front pack. The Sky coverage is fantastic. Quality commentary and the cameras/stats/data available is superb. Shame there’s no fans for a start, and there could be more overtaking/actual car on car racing, but on the whole a quality package.
Only issue for me here in NZ is timing. 1am on a Monday morning with work and kids is about the worst timing for any live sport for me. Still good catching up on the race Monday night even knowing the result. Which I never really do for any other sport outside of an AB test.

That will be particularly bad this year, I guess, with the concentration of GPs in Western Europe. I often record stuff to watch later and have been known to go to some fairly extreme lengths to avoid learning the result.Mr Bungle wrote: ↑Fri Aug 14, 2020 7:32 pm Gotta say I’ve really been enjoying F1 of late. Yep. Statistically only Monaco, Hungary and Magny-Cours have fewer overtakes in the past couple of decades.

Red Bull slower than expected in race trim sadly.ScarfaceClaw wrote: ↑Sun Aug 16, 2020 2:32 pm Fourth place being lapped. This is two hours of my life I’ll never get back. It’s a scalextric race.
The commentary said Hamilton has equalled Jim Clark's record for races where you take pole/lead all laps/win. Sadly it's not making for interesting racing.
I didnt see the race on sunday as I was travelling, but I have been following it this year tooUn Pilier wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2020 8:30 amYes, I watch MotoGP.
So why not start a MotoGP thread?
Good timing given all the fallouts and the horrendous incidents in Moto2 and MotoGP in Austria.

I was working so I had to wait for a replay...
Holy crapsticks Batman. I’ve never seen such a close call. Yet to see the Moto2 race.
