Not even a slap on the wrist. Not sure whether he was sued in a civil court though for possible damages (read: $$$), but certainly no criminal damages.

If it's any consolation, his name was removed from the Wikipedia page of his hometown (which is my hometown and current place of residence too) in the "Famous people from this town" section. :???:

If never heard about this either.

I used to like watching Mulder, very good player.

Rugby is a smaller world and there's a greater connection between the pros and the amateur game. Far more likely that it will leak out.
True. Sorry, I meant to say it may be months before his name is officially released. Pretty sure we'll know who it is pretty soon. Just like the Everton player.

I'd not heard about this Everton player. Is he still playing regularly?
Not now. He was up until last summer... you don't remember? Allegedly comes from a cold island NW of the UK.

How is he seen now in the wider South African community? Is he ostracised?

He has admitted the attempted rape of a school girl. So no ambiguity? How did he avoid criminal charges?

I don't hear anybody speak about him as rugby player anymore. And I'm staying about 2km from his alter mater (Hugenote High School in Springs, Gauteng) where people don't easily move away, so he should have been a hero in this part of the world. I'm also 500m from his old Primary school, where him and I were in school together, although 1 or 2 years age gap.

Just like about anywhere in the world, a different justice system exists for those with money.

As for his whereabouts, I just read he now has a regular 8-5 job it seems.

From the ever so accurate Wikipedia (good enough in this instance):
He is now an employee of the telecommunications infrastructure company, Dark Fibre Africa (Pty) Ltd. In 2007 he pleaded guilty to the indecent assault and attempted rape of a South African schoolgirl who was the daughter of a close friend

My bad, he didn't get away Scot free.

But as suspected, when you have some $$$.....

In the past year, his downfall has become more visible, and this week, the player - who became a national hero for tackling New Zealand star Jonah Lomu into touch at the 1995 World Cup final - was fined R120 000 or three years behind bars in terms of a plea bargain.

So that telecommunications company don't have an issue with him working for them. :shh:

Tough one if you think it through.

I too was thinking like you, still do tbh.

But at what point can a person who has committed a crime be allowed back in society? He did appear in a court of law, did get a sentence/plea deal (which I think was definitely too soft).

But whether we agree with the verdict or not, should a criminal/ex-convict who has served his sentence or paid his fine, be allowed to earn a living again?

a quick internet search brings up this
He previously worked for telecommunications infrastructure company Dark Fibre Africa, but has joined Samsung and distributes its automation products.
if this is accurate, and if he still works for Samsung - is another matter.

As much as I and many other people would have liked to see him serve some time, maybe a plea bargain was the best outcome for his victim. She didn't have a potentially traumatic court appearance, avoided media unpleasantness, and hopefully got some decent compensation.

Tough one. Depends on the nature of the crime... most sex offenders put on the sex offenders register here in the UK would find life very difficult from thereon... Mulder doesn't sound like he suffered much of a punishment... 3 years or a fine? And took the fine?

I don't think it is him.

Though in farness this is exactly what the wife of the Everton player did after her husband was arrested for child sex offences...

Guardian says the player is 29 years old. The incident was in Manchester according to the Sun. Jake says it's a back dropped 4 or 5 years ago. Most can narrow that down I suspect whatever the truth.

Assuming the accusation transpires to be accurate, just wonder WTF goes through someone's mind to attempt such a thing and even more mind boggling that a wife might be involved.

Turns out the 41 year old is a sex worker, that the rugby player is a client of. She claims the rugby player just used her spare room (wanted to include her, but she turned them down).

Having just taken a quick peek at the alleged sex workers twitter feed (posted in the other place), there is no way she turned anything down if there was cash involved.

The player in question has a bit of form with sex workers and was disciplined on an England U20 tour for bringing severa;l abck to his room

I think some people are just that freaky, and maybe (frighteningly) get off on the pursuit (or worse).

I was at a thing late last year where a woman was telling us about a couple that kept trying to get her to join them in a threesome. I seem to recall that they were in their 40s and she in her 20s. It sounded like the missus of the couple was the most aggressive, even - by the sounds of it - accosting the young woman in the parking lot later after having turned them down politely, then a little more determinedly, in whatever function they were at.

People looking for a third or another couple are all over dating apps, presumably perfectly non-rapey, just a bit kinky and looking for people who are 'cool' with it. That it sounds like this couple have gone out of their way to (allegedly) be abductors/rapists, says something big about them imo, when there are those options for a simpler, consensual hookup.

Edit: just read the rest of the thread... plot thickens!

So there's 3 Sale players (Sale have released a statement) that fit the age and could be classed as England internationals (saxons, baabaas, training squads, england caps) I believe.

Sale Sharks have been made aware of an allegation against one of its players and the subsequent arrest of that player by Greater Manchester Police on Sunday 9th January 2022.

The player in question has been suspended by Sale Sharks until further notice and is currently cooperating with police officers to assist in their investigation.

As this matter is subject to a legal process there will be no further comment at this time.

After drugging the girl.
Didn't the police statement earlier today say that the homeowner called the police? She's also quoted in the Mail as saying that she was the one who called the police. If that is true I find it unlikely that she drugged the girl, although I guess it's still possible.

I suppose it will all be clear who the accused is by inference at the weekend i.e. who is omitted from Sale's squad to Clermont.

OTTOMH, I could only think of 2 Eng intl backs at Sale anyway (I guess they have so many safas there) and oddly, 1 of them is the player I'd would have immediately assumed based solely on the info "England back". BUT, it probably isn't him. Which shows why speculation is a bad thing.

Regardless, we should really wait the result of any legal process before casting stones?

Is it confirmed to be a back?

I don't think there's any doubt who it is, especially with Sale having confirmed a member of their squad was arrested. It's a pretty grim event though, so not sure if there's much mileage in continuing to discuss it when we're not going to get any further details at this stage.

I really don't know. I honestly haven't looked beyond here and then at Sale's site when it was highlighted they'd made a statement.

Like I said, there's 3 Sale players that could be classed as England players, all of whom haven't been involved with England for years, and all 29.
