Jansen gets the other opener.

I was listening to Sunil GAvaskar talking about how unlucky you are if you are out to a strangle down the leg side, but we've had quite a few dismissals like that in this series.

I reckon we should have a leg slip in and bowl for that mode of dismissal.

The pitch will be on its best on day 3. We need to get King Kohli quickly.

Jansen the find of the tour. Look like an angry youngster.

You ARE allowed two fielders backward of square leg.

I am certainly not suggesting bodyline bowling, more bowling at the buttocks as a way of bringing in that mode of dismissal.

Just after I typed that, there were a couple of deliveries which found the edge down leg and went to fine leg for four. A leg slip might have been in business.

Early wicket for Jansen.

Phehlukwayo and Mulder had their chances, did not take it. Jansen has made the allrounder spot his own.

Since Elgar and Boucher have had a talk with Rabada in the middle of the second test, he has been sensational.

He has made a few big hundreds against Australia.

I'd be inclined to keep faith with him, but it's a worry, especially with only 6 batsmen.

Petersen has done enough to get a good run in the team.

Rassie averaging 33.25 after 12 tests, another player under pressure. Also about to turn 33.

Stupid to drop Markram or Rassie. Both quality batsmen.

Need to keep this squad of players. I,d like to see another wrist spinner like Shamsi added.

Our next tests is against the Black Caps in NZ

Didn't SA chase down well over 200 last time? Or is the wicket that bad?

The Newlands pitch use to be slow and low , assisting spinners. This one look like the typical SA bouncy pitch. Eased out and maybe cracks on day 5.

It's not bad, but he has the potential for so much more. 27 years old, so not a youngster anymore. One would think that he needs to cement his place sooner rather than later.

Right - especially if you have potentially better players available (I don't know if you do). But 28 Tests isn't that many and 37.5 is a good start. Jimmy Anderson's bowling average was 35 after 28 Tests! He's scored 5 hundreds already.

I do think another 10 Tests will tell you whether he's going to kick on or not. Wouldn't worry too much about his age given how long batters play for now though.

Digging into his stats a bit more, is it fair to say he struggles with slow bowlers? Half of his matches have come against India (avg 16) and Sri Lanka (26.6). He averages a whopping 60 against the Aussies and 47.5 against Pakistan. He's barely played against the other sides.

After that shot he needs to be dropped. It was desperation stuff, trying to do a Pant. I still think his natural position is at no.4 rather than opening. I know he's played nearly all his cricket as an opener but he's being exposed.
