So you're calling me a racist?
No, I'm saying your tactics are similar to those that racists use.

'Tactics'?

This is a forum, and not even a very popular one FFS.

Conversations develop, parallel themes get discussed, tangential themes get discussed. It's not 'tactics', it was just called conversation and dialogue for the last 3000 years.

The words and language used by Exeter were of specific complaint by the NCAI, not just the logos and iconography. Names are clearly important. Calling native Americans 'Indians' was akin to the phrase 'they all look the same to me'. In short, it was racist. That is racism.

Similar principle to the NAACP no? These organisations weren't set up yesterday. Also IIRC (albeit I'm using Gangs of New York as history...) didn't White Americans used to call themselves the Native Americans to separate themselves from the Ellis Island gang? Probably needed the I for clarity.

Yes. Wouldn't be surprised to see it changed to NAAPC.

Christ's sake Tony, just change the logo to an old Wessex Chief and have done with it already.

This presents a really good opportunity for Rowe, and probably his last one, to say "this has really opened my eyes and I'm grateful for them for doing this, we will work with them to change"

Everyone will come out looking good and we can move on.

Certainly more chance than if Rowe stuck his fingers in his ears and went "LALALALALA I CANT HEAR YOU"

At least if he was doing that you could just say he was stubborn. Right now it seems to be more him explaining to them how they are in fact wrong, and what he's doing is respectful.

Rowe should look at totally reframing his team in my opinion. If they remain Exeter then they'll always be the Chiefs with all the associated imagery that has caused offence. I'd suggest to him to change the team name to Devon and pick some pithy alliterative name to accompany it. Devils, Dragons, Dynamos or suchlike.

I know Leeds tried this with the change to Yorkshire which bombed but Yorkshire people and Yorkshire rugby is very different indeed.

Chiefs to "ditch" the imagery
Exeter Chiefs are preparing to ditch their Native American branding after calls from a majority of their supporters to make a change. In a statement Exeter stopped short of confirming their future plans but said a decision on “what the club will do next” would be forthcoming “within the next few weeks.”

Graun jumping the gun a bit there. It's likely since the statement wasn't a continuation of Rowe's 'Nothing to see here, in fact it's a good thing because we're honouring Native Americans' stance, but the statement in no way says they'll be ditching the branding.

Let's see if they do it gracefully or if its accompanied by resentful screaming from Tony Rowe about woke lefties.

He may as well go out screaming. Either way won't make a scrap of difference to the woke lefties.

Absolutely. This was the right thing to do. Hopefully the fans get on board with the new branding.

They got there in the end, so well done Exeter.

Yup.

It's pretty much what the Exeter fans who wanted change were calling for in the first place

I suppose it's good that it's changed but surely they could have done better than this? It looks like something I could knock up using Canva.

I'm assuming they're rebranding all the bars and such in the stadium as well.

Well they had to be dragged there and certainly comments along the way indicated key personnel still don't really see what the problem is, but they've done it and that has to be somewhat applauded.

Personally, I think it's a great logo! I won't expect them to go this far, but would be fun to see a woman on the women's team badge (assuming that culture could have had a woman? ... not sure of the history, but Boudicca was one in those days on the other side of the island?)

Yeah it's fine. A club's logo shouldn't be a talking point and now there's isn't. Well done in the end, broadly everyone has handled themselves in a mature manner here.
