Raab was invited to repeat Johnson’s baseless comments without the benefit of parliamentary privilege on the Today programme this morning several times. He refused each time, and instead tried to pretend Johnson’s comments were part of the ‘normal cut and thrust’ of politics. These people have no shame.SaintK wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 10:50 amCorrect!! Yea, it's called parliamentary privilege. It's why raab was pressed on it this morning and refused to confirm it.

It really is Catch 22 for the Tories now!
On the one hand they raise the required number of letters and then have a leadership contest which won't be pretty, demonstrating clearly the divisions within the party and the presence of a large number of right wing nutters and the Blonde Bumblecunt might even win again! It is likely many of the front runners, or at least those with brains, won't stand this time round as they don't want to inherit the absolute clusterfuck the BB has left them. You could therefore end up with their equivalent of a 'Corbyn-like' leader but without the charm and moral stance. A far right, 'god fearing', venture capitalist sourced ERG type is a strong possibility and that would create huge divisions and internal battles within the Tory party. They would end up toast.
On the other they keep the BB and there continues to be a slow drip drip of more scandals and wrong doings ie PPE contracts going to court, islamophobia, dodgy money into the party, etc. The BB couldn't lead us out of a wet paper bag and the damage and inequity across society would grow as the cost of power, cost of living, Brexit failures all become glaringly obvious. They react with even more draconian right wing populist policies and growing realisation amongst even the most ardent BB supporters that he is a dud and they get rid of him but too late for the election run in. The amount of damaging material on BB has only just started to dribble out, there is more, a lot more ie Acuri, Bunga Bunga parties in Lebedev's Italian villa, PPE contracts, Russian money and influence, etc. Now the finger has been taken out of the hole in the dam and the BB cloak of bluster and lies has been exposed, those like Cummings and others will leak damaging info forever and it will stick on their damaged leader and party.
Either way the Tory Party has got what it deserved. It voted in the Blonde Bumblecunt as their leader in order to gain power fully knowing he is a misogynist, sexist, jingoistic, racist, two faced lier who was badly compromised by a number of dodgy characters not least from Russia. They knew, having won the Brexit vote, that it now hung around their neck like a dead albatross, they had no idea or plan about what to do next. BB was the solution, he was prepared to lie, cheat and trash the UK in order to 'get it past the post' and win popularity with voters for them in the process. However all he did was delay and obfuscate, the damage and price of Brexit is now becoming clear and it ain't pretty. However there is a price to pay and that is what they now face and the bill might be losing the next election and the trashing of their traditional Tory Party values and support. They have sold their soul to the devil and have now to pay the very, very high price. It is not going to end well.

With a couple of exceptions none of them are stupid, which doesn't improve matters.
I'm sure that we've all known politician types, and we've all agreed to leave politics to them.

I disagree. to quote just a few of his blunders, Dover - Calais not that important......... I have not read the GFA ( although he was pontificating on it and it's only 32 pages ffs ) ...... I never supported privatising the NHS ( according to a book he co-wrote in 2011, he did )....... leaking information on a meeting he had with Veradker and then denying he had done such a thing......... Confusing the Irish Sea with the Red sea !!! I jest you not......Blocking James O'Brien on twitter because O'Brien fact checked him and called him out on it.........the list goes on.
Every country has muppets who rise to the top but Raab is a very special child of Jesus.

Yep. At uni you know these types are mostly weirdo's that are to be avoided. That is the problem though it needs more people to put themselves forward. You actually need normal people to join the Tory party to reclaim it. You don't actually need very many to do that as the membership is so small.Iain(bobbity) wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 11:38 am With a couple of exceptions none of them are stupid, which doesn't improve matters.

Joseph Goebbels, Nazi Head of Propaganda was originally considering a career as a priest in the Catholic Church. He was top of his class at school and went on to study literature and history at Universities of Bonn, Wurzburg, Frieburg and Munich. He won an academic scholarship. He completed his PhD at Heidelberg under the supervision of a jewish professor. He wrote 14 books on his academic area of study. Hitler said in his will he wanted Goebbels to be his successor. Goebbels, along with his fellow nazis, was also responsible for the death of millions of innocent people across the world, not least as a result of the holocaust.
Please don't ever think academic achievement is the same as being a decent human being. Raab is a cunt who can pass exams, an intellectual toss bag of a man.

Raab will have a very narrow focus of promotion in the Tory party and law. His knowledge pool will be deep but lack breadth. Coupled with a lack curiosity and arrogance you easily get someone like Raab knowing nothing about trade through Dover.dpedin wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 11:56 amI agree, however ...Happyhooker wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 11:24 am You don't get a masters in law from cambridge and the Clive parry prize if you're brain dead.

Some of the reported noise after the 1922 meeting is that MPs have remembered that Johnson won them the election and will win another.
That's what actually matters in politics.

Maybe some conflating of aspects going on here revolving around whatever definition of "brain dead" is being used by everyone. It's possible to be academically excellent and still make dreadful real world decisions eitherHappyhooker wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 11:24 am You don't get a masters in law from cambridge and the Clive parry prize if you're brain dead.

I'm happy to be the naive one again, but I find it shocking to see how many 'people on the street' think Boris is doing a good job and this wasn't something to resign over.
Plenty of people don't seem to expect any standards or accountability from politicians.
I'm sure the beeb is trying to prove their neutrality by showing all points of view, but it's still pretty odd to see.
As are all the Tory lackeys defending Boris - how little integrity do these people have?!
Sad state of the nation.
