It gets worse.

Apparently; Operation save big turd; is more important than breaking International Law.
Westminster said it will not intervene with the order to halt checks, saying it was a "matter for the Northern Ireland Executive".

Simon Coveney, Ireland's foreign minister, warned: "If a political decision is taken by a minister in Northern Ireland to stop all checks in ports on goods coming across the Irish Sea that is effectively a breach of international law, and I would remind everybody that the implementation of the protocol is part of international law.

"To deliberately frustrate obligations under that treaty I think would be a very serious matter indeed.

So there you go Holyrood; apparently, you aren't bound by the Post-Brexit CTA; so you can go off & negotiate on your own with the EU; because some cunt in Westminister has said that it's a devolved function !

So obviously, the plan is to fling try knobbling the NIP; & then collapse the Executive, so there's no-one to reverse the illegal order to the Officials.

Do the checks at the British mainland points of departure, that’ll teach them.

Too slow. It'd take months.

Its much faster to ask our Friends, in France, Belgium, & the Netherlands; to stop looking at paperwork, & insist on opening up the back of every lorry.

I don't think this Government can survive that Queue of Trucks reaching the M25

It’s an interesting point. Are the Customs staff at Holyhead under the control of the Welsh Assembly Government? Can we have free trade between Anglesey and the EU?

Just waiting for the US to step in and tell the noisy kid in the class to shut the feck up, sit down and follow the rules. I suspect we will hear a fairly direct message from the Biden Administration pretty quickly about the UK endangering the GFA and the need to adhere to international treaties and law. The US will be furious that any cracks in relationships in Europe are being elevated given the Ukrainian situation. I suspect the Blonde Bumblecunt has engineered this as a distraction from his own issues and problems and hoped to use it as a 'dead cat' however I suspect this will backfire badly.

I know he was desperate for a 'war' a la Falklands to boost his popularity but this is very badly misjudged and all the EU will do is tighten checks at the EU borders and stuff the flow of imports and exports across the border. This is extreme self harm from a failing and dangerous UK Government.

Nestlé confirms Fawdon sweets factory closure in move to EU production

Loss of 475 jobs expected near Newcastle as production of familiar brands moves abroad

Fruit Pastilles will be made in the Czech Republic and Toffee Crisp bars in Poland, under proposals by Nestlé to close a factory near Newcastle.

The GMB trade union said the site at Fawdon, which has been making chocolate since 1958, was profitable and that plans to shift confectionery production offshore from 2023 – with the loss of 474 jobs – were “unacceptable”.
BBC reporting something else
A spokeswoman said the majority of production currently in the North East would move to Halifax, West Yorkshire.

The GMB and Unite unions condemned the move and said closing "a profit-making factory" was "unacceptable".

They're going to have to fiddle the RPI something silly at this rate,
We're easily looking at double digit inflation this year, and more so if our political benefactors invade Ukraine.

Hello.
I forgot most of the people on this bored are smug old farts, grimly praying that mother doesn't have to go into a nursing home to avoid spending their hard earned inheritance, but also hoping that the old biddy hurries up and dies before the house crash happens so they can cash in on decades of rampant price inflation.

Not that I see this every day at work or anything...

Even by their own standards of moronic fuckwittery; the DUP really have out done themselves with this latest stunt.

Because of the previous strops, by both them & the SF; it's possible for some part of the devolved administration to limb along till May; but there are certain crucial bits that need the DUP in place.... like the Budget !, so there can't be any extra money allocated to the Health service, with was already the worst in the UK, & now has massive waiting list, like everywhere else.

But the cherry on the cake of their idiocy is; that it probably isn't possible for there to be any changes, or reductions in the Covid controls; until there's a new assembly after the May elections; & it usually takes months after any election to form an assembly !!!!

They couldn't possible have picked a better way of pissing off everyone in NI; than to condemn then to permanent Covid controls. Well done you stupid bastards; that'll go down a treat on the doorstep, when your electioneering

I'm 2 years into a fixed 10 year interest rate on my mortgage. It's 2.5% but will remain that way for 8 years.

The border checks stop was a stunt by Poots as the NI civil service are bound by international law and won't stop until Westminster government or HMRC tell them to.

Looks like Truss will do a deal with EU anyway so this is all about the election in May for the DUP . They're fucked anyway as is the unionist vote which will be split.

Sinn Fein will be the biggest party but will the unionists agree to stand up the executive with a Shinner 1st minister? I don't think they will.

If they don't the pressure on the largest Unionist Party will be unbelievable. If they don't form a Government, there'll be election, after election, & with each one, they'll lose votes to the Alliance, & whatever Unionist Party emerges & says it will respect the will of the electorate; & form a Government.

Give 'em what they want? Direct London rule. Obviate in one fell swoop any scintilla of local democratic accountability, let alone responsibility and put a kybosh on what would be seen as an irreversible slide demographically., slicing away the trappings of control and privilege they feel is their birthright.

Cement the Union for another generation, in spite of the fact that the numbers in favour of that diminish year-on-year? Feck off.

There's enough tail wagging dog going on in this world, without pandering to backwards/inwards-obsessed pricks like this.

Devolution has served its purpose in so much that it stopped the bloodshed. But you have 1 major party doing its best to ensure the NI states fails as it wants unification, another not knowing its arse from its elbow and has zero creditibility after RHI and Brexit, the SDLP and UUP who offer nothing in the way of vision, and the Alliance Party that complain about everyone else complaining.

The NI state is a shitshow. Always has been, always will be. Throwing more money at it is a complete waste. The UK government should implenent Direct Rule with a referendum date on Irish unity pencilled in at some point in the next 3-5 years. If the vote is to remain part of the UK, all cross community decision making/executive d'hondt shit should be binned and it should just be voluntary colalitions from there on out. Or be part of ROI, with a pre-border poll plan laid out for how the transition/reintegration process would work, so voters are as informed as possible.

I couldn't care less either way regarding the border poll's outcome. But I, and most rational people in NI are sick of the useless kunts in Stormont.
