Jesus, that's an eyewateringly high average

I know you guys talk about the shiteness of housing stock; but a figure like that really shows how bad it is.

Any idea what the standard deviation is for fuel bills ?
Last year I paid ~£900 for gas and electric, and I'm at the low end of annual usage for both. Large families are going to be clobbered
Same here - I’m currently at about £1100 a year on payments but am about £300 in credit and paying too much due to new fridge freezer and oven which has knocked about £20 a month off my electric. Will restructure my payments when this shakes out a bit more and get my credit back from them as well.
And are there two g’s in Bugger Off?

I know its no consolation, but I have a friend who lives in Vienna. Last year his electricity bill was 20 euros a month. He has just been informed that his monthly bills this year will be 178 Euros a month, an increase of 890%!

Reckon you need to up your monthly payments already, let alone after the prices go up.

Jesus, and their electricity is 62% hydro-electric generated with no reliance on gas power plants as far as I can tell. What's their excuse?

Na, they currently owe me £40 as of 1/2/22, in month 11 of 12 of my current contract.

Even with the 54% hike announced today, I should be under their "best" fixed offer by about £600 pa (before the £150 CT rebate), but nowhere near their £3500 pa "offers"

No idea what reason was given for the hike. My friend was absolutely furious, and did manage to get the monthly charge 'reduced' to 120 Euros after giving them a piece of his mind. Even at the reduced rate though, that is still a massive price increase.

He must have been on some kind of massively discounted rate previously, because 20 euro a month is very low. Has he started a cannabis farm in his attic?

I see the dark money funded MP arseholes that were formerly known as the European Research Group, and then the Brexit Research Group, are now the Net Zero Research Group and are seizing on the energy price crisis to bang the drum for fossil fuels and anti-renewable policies. Arguing for fracking and more oil exploration in the North Sea.

WTF is wrong with these people? Why do they devote their time to fucking up everyone's lives on every front to make a very small number of obscenely rich people even more rich? (Yes, I know it's money for them)

And what's worse is that ordinary people listen to their scumbaggery and find it an easy answer to complex issues, and they have held a whip hand over the Government, propping up Johnson in exchange for Brexit stupidity and future wrecking bullshit.

Surely with high oil and gas prices the best thing to do is to lower your reliance on them. Anything else is retarded.

No, the best thing to do is ensure we have shitty housing and don't decarbonise, otherwise the donations stop.

Been around £155 per month for years. EDF have just offered me their best fixed rate of £485 per month.

There are surely going to be mass protests come the summer?

Feel sorry for those who are genuinely in the shit but for those with asset wealth I have bugger all sympathy (spent some time with some elderly relatives recently and genuinely wanted to club them round the head). I mean when you live in a property worth >£1.5 million why the fuck do you think the government should pay for your insulation or heat pump or solar panels?

I got booted over to EON-next after my provider went under.

But I’ve not looked at contracts at all.

If only there were a general election in the next few weeks. Like the Presidential Election in France. The France where the the electricity price rise was capped to 4%...

I'm biting the bullet, got a guy coming out to discuss solar and possibly wind next week, also rewiring the house. New boiler and central heating planned for later this year sill waiting for the company to get back to me on that. Only remaining thing to consider is maybe triple glazing but that can wait.

Always amuses me when you people talk about things that seriously rinse poor people, like you actually care.
These very same people supported the bedroom tax and the child benefits cap., and a hundred other things the tories under Cameron and Osborne, May Boris and Sunak did to make life impossible.
Lets be honest, if you lot met a genuine poor person or a unpaid carer, you would accuse them of benefits fraud and a dozen other things... and if they dared protested, or got upset at the portrayl....you would threaten to turn up at their doors, nazi thug style, to beat the shit out of them
.

Ok thats it, no more, final warning, stop baiting people

Why wouldn't they? The government paid for their house price with their economic policies of the last decade inflating that specific bubble.

We're a group that grew up under particular circumstances and I'd accept lucky instead of entitled. We can't run the experiment but I don't think you can prove that if you magically arranged for people born thirty years ago to have been born seventy years ago they would have very different attitudes from us. And anyway "us" aren't all the same.

If you're thinking about solar, get a battery as well. My solar panels are currently running the house, filling the battery (76% state of charge as of about 10 minutes ago according to my app) and exporting the excess to the grid. Some people on day/night rates also set the battery to fill overnight and then discharge when the daytime costs are higher.

Wind unlikely to be worth it unless you're out in the middle of nowhere and can stick a half decent turbine up (and even then, not sure).

There is so much more we could be doing to build both houses and commercial property fit for the current century, but with this Government, absolutely no chance of regulatory change or incentives.

Fair enough, I'm probably a bit sensitive as I'm one of the few here in the elderly, retired, reasonably comfortable category that's under attack.
