Miotti starts😀, he does exist
What's the story with it taking him so long to get a game when neither Thompson or Weir have been in great form?
No one knows, Weir hasn't been great to be honest, and Thomson is young and needed a break, Thomson is the future though , but needs back up, which Miotti was supposed to provide, really looking forward to see what he can bring to the party.

I see Yaree Fantini, who looked good for Ayrshire Bulls in the Super 6, has been picked up by Treviso and will be starting against Glasgow this weekend.

Good for him, he was certainly one of the stand outs. Is he SQ? I know he was from England

Don't think he's SQ, and he has an Italian mum, so not one slipping through the net. Positive for the Super 6 as a competition though, if it's a good shop window for players with professional ambitions.

Yes, absolutely. Don’t think he is international standard but great for him and the competition

Sounds like Cummings is out for the France game with a lower leg injury.

Not sure I can watch the Glasgow game tonight. Need a week off Scottish rugby after last night

OK but it was Munster away so wasn't really expecting a win, thought embra did OK once they woke up. Vellacot was slow getting the ball away, passing among the backs was unsympathetic, Pack was generally OK.
Benetton at Scotstoun should be different but still a real banana skin for the weegies

That wasn't the best way to finish off the day after an uber late finish. Felt there was improvement from last week (well after about 15 to 20 min in) but again silly errors costing field position and some soft defending at times. Probably feeling a bit less critical than I was last night but they're not in a position to be challenging these teams away from home yet, particularly in the international window.

Yeah, one thing I really noticed last night was how passive the defence was from most of the backs. Can’t do that against an Irish side

Yes. They either had that as a plan or picked up on it pretty quickly because a lot was going down his channel

It’s been a few years since I stopped playing and I have to say I haven’t really missed it. Been keeping busy watching international, pro and 1st XV stuff.

However, went down today for Accies 2’s V Heriots 2’s and fuck me it hit home. Seeing the guys loving the game, the banter, the friendship, sportsmanship and the planning of the night ahead with the other team straight after final whistle just brought so many amazing memories back. Has really spurred me on to get more involved again. Loved it

Think so - that's where he played for the 20s and Bulls in 2020.

Yaree Fantini hopefully does well so the coaches trust the super6 a bit more.

Agreed on Smith, looks a really strong runner.

Think Benetton would be ahead on a drier night.

Johnson and Dempsey the classiest players on the pitch with Ollie Smith looking great.

New 10 doing fine. That lump on the wing is hilarious

I just don't understand how the tap and go is more effective than a scrum or a line out.

If they had an old fashioned move I could see it. But just barrelling on your own is dumb

It had a renaissance but a combination of it not being surprising anymore and the law tweaks around prelatching have rendered it a bit of a crap option again imo.

Pretty brutal isn’t it. I think it’s hosing it down which isn’t clear on the tv. Somewhat explains the handling errors. Somewhat.

Bennetton playing well considering it's the kids. Glasgow very poor - no ambition or adventure.

Also add Lewis Bean to the journeyman NSQ taking gametime from a young Scot. What a mental decision to pick and go there. What are you going to achieve? Let's have some rules the NSQs as sign are actually decent.

Glasgow’s lock roster is exceptionally poor. Cummings is obviously very good, Gray may still have something about him, McDonald is poor IMO (big but very poor skills), Bean is a championship level journeyman and Bain, who knows. That’s it.

Agree... But they have Ferrie who played well in the s6 and Williamson who is one of the very few playing well for the 20s.

What's the point in playing Bean (great story to him) over an academy player Vs bennetton's second team? What does Scottish rugby gain? Nothing, imo.

Although it's good to hear the truth about the guy from the people who had first hand experience of Williams, I honestly think he seeks any publicity, even the bad stuff.

He's the Katie Hopkins to Scottish Rugby.

He became irrelevant to us as soon as he left his job at Murrayfield.

The best outcome would have been "Don't let the door hit your arse on the way out, Matt", and never spoken of again.

Excellent to hear Peter and Tom rip him a new one. At the time when Williams was coach, I knew quite a few of the players through being a TJ/AR for the pro games, and not one had a good word to say about him at the time.

Unless playing for Scotland is a big dream of his, he'd be mad to switch now.

Maybe in a few years if he's not broken through for England. Who knows though.

I would say a pro team should have a minimum of 1 or 2 international quality, 1 or 2 high quality league pro, 1 or 2 promising youngsters who are pro ready and tested and will be one of the top two categories with game time and 1 filler to help with injuries etc. with 6 established pros across those categories.

Arguably Glasgow have:
International quality: Cummings
High quality league pro: Gray
Promising youngsters: none as they haven’t played (Hamish Bain 1 start, Ferrie no starts, Williamson no starts, Alex Samuel is also in the academy and highly rated) so it’s impossible to say if they are pro quality.
Filler: Bean, McDonald

So 4 full time pros (is Bain on a pro contract?) of which 2 are emergency options.

In contrast Edinburgh have:
International quality: Gilchrist
High quality league pro: Toolis, Young
Promising youngsters: Sykes, Hodgson
Filler: Pierce
So 6 full time pros of which 1 is an emergency option.

Glasgow need to ditch one of Bean or McDonald, give game time to at least one promising lock or bring one in to develop plus bring in at least one more established pro (which they already have lined up for next season tbf). They aren’t far away if they can bring through one of the young players for next season, but they should never have gone into this season so weak in a key position.
