Playing the hard rules removes some options for me, once a letter is part of the solution it has to be used.
I've settled on a single starting word now that offers a good selection of vowels and consonants. It's surprising sometimes to see how narrow the options are after just one letter comes up. I saw an article in The Conversation on which starting words give a statistically better chance and went with one of those.

The problem with telling and knowing each other’s common starting word, is that it’s a bit of a clue when you see that posters results (top line)!
