So, Broad and Anderson dropped for upcoming Windies tour.
Strauss seems intent on making some pretty significant changes, didn't think it would extend to dropping the opening bowlers given our issues were more with the batting.
Although I'm not sure if there's truth behind them I'm aware of rumours around Broad being quite prickly with selectors, and playing some minor part if Ed Smith getting binned, wonder if this is an attempt to reduce senior player influence.

Sucks that Jofra Archer is still injured. I didn't watch much of the Ashes because it didn't seem much of a contest. I'll follow this one more closely because I'd like to see how the new boys in the England squad go. Also after looking at the new squad on the ECB site I realized that this could be gingerest squad ever assembled. Bairstow, Stokes and Pope are the full monty. Matthew Fisher, Zak Crawley are lesser gingers but ginges nonetheless. And there are two or three crypto-gingers in there who use product to mask their condition. They could possibly field a 7/11 redhead team.

SA's cricket future on show as Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs and CP Klijnhans impress in Gqeberha
Cape Town — South Africa's cricket future was on display in full high-colour definition on Monday in Gqeberha.
Dewald Brevis, Tristan Stubbs and CP Klijnhans lit up a gloomy St George's Park with exhilarating batting displays for the Titans, Warriors and Knights respectively.
Brevis, of course, has been the rage ever since the supremely talented 18-year-old broke the record for the most runs ever at the ICC U-19 World Cup earlier this month.
It was those exhilarating displays in the Caribbean that earned the teenager a R6 million IPL contract with the Mumbai Indians before he had actually completed playing his very first senior professional game for the Titans this past weekend.
And "Baby AB" — as he has been dubbed due to his similar style to Proteas legend AB de Villiers — showed on Monday morning that he will be full value for it with a brisk 46 not out off 30 balls to ease the Titans to a seven-wicket victory over a Proteas-laden Dolphins team.
’Baby AB’ Dewald Brevis show’s he’s the real deal as he powers Titans to top of the log
Rocks win thriller against Dragons in super over
Western Province move top of CSA T20 Challenge standings with sketchy Lions win
Dewald Brevis makes debut as Titans seal comfortable win over Knights
Dolphins’ David Miller, Grant Roelofson too good for Warriors despite Tristan Stubbs heroics
Lions narrowly beat Dolphins to kickstart their CSA T20 Challenge campaign
Stubbs, meanwhile, may not yet have joined the IPL millionaires club, but it is abundantly clear that Gqeberha will be too small for the former Grey High School prodigy very soon.
In fact, St George's Park is already with Stubbs pummelling yet another blitzkrieg 65 off 35 balls (3x4,5x6) against the Knights. It was the 21-year-old's third half-century in just four innings, which propelled him to the top of the competition's run-scorers list with 217 runs at an average of 72.33 and strike-rate of 208.65.
Stubbs has certainly shown that he possesses immense power having cleared the fence 19 times already — nine times more than second-placed David Miller, who also showed he is not ready to replaced by these young upstarts just yet with an undefeated 57 off 40 balls.
Unfortunately for the Warriors, Stubbs' pyrotechnics was not enough as the home team's bowling unit was absolutely blown away by Jacques Snyman and another promising young batter Klijnhans.
Snyman bashed 90 off 52 balls — the highest score of the tournament thus far — in a record opening stand of 156 with debutant Klijnhans. The 22-year-old certainly fed off his batting partner to stroke a delightful 67 off 54 balls to propel the Knights to their first victory of the competition.

I see young Brevis picked up an IPL contract at R2million. Not bad for an 18 year old. KG on an R19million rand contract. For 6 weeks of cricket.

Pieter Malan’s captain’s knock guides Rocks to CSA T20 Challenge final win over Titans
By Zaahier Adams Time of article published 55m ago
Cape Town - The Rocks completed one of the greatest surprises in a franchise cricket season to lift the CSA T20 Challenge trophy by defeating the star-studded Titans at St George's Park on Sunday.
It was a day that David slayed Goliath with the Rocks completing a 15-run victory to set off the celebrations.
Captain Pieter Malan has been the Rocks' premier source of runs throughout the tournament and he certainly kept his best innings for last.
Despite wickets tumbling all around him from the outset, Malan kept his team afloat with his fifth half-century of the series to ensure the Rocks could at least post a competitive total.
Initially he absorbed the pressure by simply rotating the strike to keep the scoreboard ticking over before recognizing the moment to seize back the initiative for the Rocks.
It was an innings of sublime quality that yeilded 71 runs off just 56 balls when Malan eventually succumbed with 10 balls still remaining in the innings.
But the Rocks were not finished yet. Hardus Viljoen, who was a late replacement for the injured Christiaan Jonker, provided the finishing touches the innings required with a blustering cameo of 32 of just 16 balls (3x4, 2x6) to lift the Rocks to 138/6.
The Titans would still have felt confident that they could haulnin the Rocks' total considering the quality they have in their lineup.
But when Quinton de Kock fell cheaply to the impressive Imran Manack (2/14), the Titans procession begun. Fellow spinner Siyabonga Mahima (2/22) accounted for Titans skipper Theunis de Bruyn shortly afterwards and the Rocks suddenly had the belief that they could achieve the impossible.
The Rocks fielding unit certainly backed up their bowlers with an excellent display, especially veteran Ferisco Adams, who completed a brilliant run out and diving catch a crucial juncture of the contest.
Sibonelo Makhanya (37) and Donovan Ferreira (22) attempted to rebuild the innings in the middle, but the Rocks were not going to let this opportunity out of their grasp with Adams closing out the contest with ease in the final over.
"They played the big moments better than us. Their senior players stepped up in the big moments," Titans skipper De Bruyn said, while Malan was just elated for his young charges which consisted of two 18-year-olds in the Rocks starting XI.
Scorecard
Rocks: 138/6 (P. Malan 71, Viljoen 32, Shamsi 3/20)
Titans: 123/9 (Makhanya 37, Viljoen 2/14, Manack 2/14)
Rocks won by 15 runs
