Playing all out rugby
They'll need to start running shuttle buses or something to get the crowds in. I agree with Blake. Ellis is a kak area at night.
And during the day.
They just need to run shuttles from the Park Gautrain station. Loads of parking at the stations, and there are Gautrain buses running past Ellis Park. Only problem is that Gautrain in their ultimate wisdom do not run late enough for these evening games. There is a station pretty close to Loftus as well, yet if you go to an evening game, the train closes around the time the game ends. I would much rather use the train and walk to the stadium than having to go find parking/suffer through the traffic. When crowds are back to normal that is.

I suppose they really haven't had time to sort out logistics. But I am sure they will sort it out. Would be amazing if they ran a free shuttle service

Yes I did not expect the crowd to increase a lot as it was a very short time for people to change plans, etc Hopefully next weekend would look better. I hope the Bulls game tomorrow will have a bigger crowds even 15k would be nice, but again, I think time was short. Also I think a lot more people are tight on money these days in SA after the last 2 years, so we will see how it goes in the coming weeks.

Talking about the Gautrain, I do not know why the are not used more related to sporting events, they have a decent connection network to major sporting stadiums, yet somehow they are not used at their full potential. Gauteng is losing a trick not making full use of what the service could offer.

Well, both stadiums, Loftus and Ellis Park, are around 2km from their respective Gautrain stations so the foundations are definitely there for a nice “Fan Walk” experience; if only the surrounds could be developed.

Loftus is a probably better positioned with Hatfield Square along the route, but Ellis Park is a write off. I don’t think there’s any way to save Hillbrow or gentrify it. It’s a lost cause.

Yeah Loftus already have a bit of a fan walk on match days, and its not a bad walk from the station to the stadium, if only they can keep the train running extra 2 hours on match days in the evening. Unfortunately unless the Ellis Park area goes through a major redevelopment and clean up fan walks will just not be a thing there. Though when the Boks play there you get a good amount of people walking around in close vicinity of the stadium. Unfortunately the route from the station to the stadium goes directly through Hillbrow, definitely not a place you want to walk around unless you are in a very big group.

This is probably the best short term play.

Reserve the 15:00-17:00 Saturday matches for the Lions.

The 19:00-21:00 on Friday nights is not going to draw crowds, unless they play those at another stadium in a better area.

Medium term they have to get into a partnership with the Gautrain to run a couple of shuttles and extend hours on game days. Would be a great boon for the two Unions and the train operators.

Going to miss the Stormers game. Our first under 14 club game 40 overs. Damn it's a step up from under 13s.

This Lions team is really starting to take shape. I know the opposition was kak, but I really like their 9/10 combo and they've got some serious finishers in the backline and workhorses in the pack.

Burger Odendaal is such an underrated player. Based on his current form I can see him getting a nod for the Bok training camp. I can see him dominating at Wasps.

Ja cheers.

Beautiful day today. At Primrose. After 17 overs of fast bowling and lots of runs conceded they gave my son 8 overs with another spinner. They slowed it down completely

I've been harping about poor scrumhalf play in SA right now. Slow service and very poor passing, often above the receivers head are commonplace. Our flyhalf and centres are being murdered by the rush defence. Morne van der Berg and Andre Warner have been excellent. When vd Berg box kicks he often does it on the run rather than the leg stretched telegraphed version we see from the base of the scrum. I see Faf doing the same. Creates doubt in the defenders minds.

They don't yet have the depth of Leinster, but they're improving year on year, & their Academy is starting to really deliver some quality players.

It is only the Bulls who don't have a power scrum.
Lions,$harks and Stormers have incredible scrums.

Again with the TMO drip feeding information to the Ref, & the Ref, who is supposed to be the sole decision maker, isn't able to make their own decision, but relies on the TMO

Why can't they just put a monitor on a stand at Half-way, so the ref can see the same footage the TMO does ?

It's not fucking rocket science
