Really like this one from the Awatere Valley by Astrolabe. From Waitrose at £18 though was 25% off last weekfrankstero wrote: ↑Sun Jun 06, 2021 8:34 am "the palate is beautifully balanced, poised between fruit sweetness, tangy green notes and fresh acidity"

My latest post looks back at 8 years of Frankly Wines
Thanks Frankie, always a good read!
A nice story coming out of Wales
https://www.theguardian.com/business/ ... inot-noirFirst it was English winemakers that had vineyards in traditional wine-making regions such as France looking over their shoulder, now it is Wales, after a “deliciously fresh” pinot noir from Monmouthshire scooped a prestigious wine award. I'm assuming the price point is due to the quantity produced?
White Castle Vineyard’s “pinot noir reserve 2018”, a red wine that costs £25.50 a bottle, has become the first Welsh vintage to win a gold medal in the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA).

Pinot Noir needs lots of care and attention so is rarely cheap, plus yields in a very cool climate like Wales are likely to be even lower than normal.
This thread is very sad for me now Frankstero. I prided myself on having a fine palate but Covid has ripped that out.
I 've been where you live. In those days, you couldn't buy a bottle of wine there, or pretty well anywhere. For my wedding reception I had to have a few crates brought over from England.
The 4 nuns got stuck into the sherry I went for Croft Original. Bit passé these days.
Got 48 bottles of Chateau Lafite and 6 of Petrus. Completely wasted on me now <weeps quietly>.
Plus a lot of other stuff. Prices have rocketed with the Chinese coming in.
I've quite a lot of a certain champagne, made famous by horrible rappers drinking it from the bottle. Love the "Lucozade" wrapping.
But I just love your threads. A decent staple diet on here.

I've just lashed out £15 on two bottles of Aldi Lebanese Red. I'm wondering for how long to lay them down/keep them in the porch.Tichtheid wrote: ↑Sat Oct 16, 2021 9:32 am I'm a bit out of my element with wines, whisky fine, but wines...

The wine isn't bad that you get in the introductory offer. Nothing incredible but the kind of stuff that you'd get for £10-20 in a supermarket. It isn't too hard to cancel.
Old men forget: yet all shall be forgot, But he'll remember with advantages, What feats he did that day

They are based in Norwich, opposite Chapelfield Gardens, near the Theatre Royal.
Decent affordable wines.

I would recommend the wine society. Been impressed with what i've had from them. A larger selection than Naked Wines who i also order from.Tichtheid wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 10:33 amThanks,Paddington Bear wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 10:26 amThe wine isn't bad that you get in the introductory offer. Parts of the area between the Usk and Wye is surprisingly dry. There are several vineyards in that area.frankstero wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 11:29 amThanks K!SaintK wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 8:35 amThanks Frankie, always a good read!

Sorry ASMO, have only just seen this - any preferences on price, country or grape?
After the initial offer we thought it seemed far too expensive for the quality we got. We found that signing up for the wine club at Virgin Wines was better value.
.....................and joining The Wine Society is even better value

Just had a bottle of red that I brought back from Calabria. Not wonderful but the more I had the better it seemed. But both Ms GL and I agreed that the bouquet had a definite and not unpleasant note of methylated spirits. How?
