Farrell would obviously prefer to do it no hands.

Is actually one of the verses in Noel Coward's take on the Cole Porter classic, Let's Do It

Also ignores the injury toll and what happened in the first test. Then again, blaming it all on a convenient scapegoat is English tabloid tradition every two years when England inevitably fail at major soccer tournaments. Bit sad to see it make it's way into rugby.lemonhead wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 12:38 pm Again though, the guy's almost one of the very last I'd describe in those terms.
Never shirked a tackle even though he got thrown around like wet laundry, never bottled out of a difficult kick. Always backed himself. Those qualities turned against him over time when he wasn't good for shit anymore.
Watch the exchange before he sends that garryowen up. A genuine pea heart would do what Bowe does, urge on and/or give thumbs up then slowly drift off into the audience. Sadly, he did not.
Nope. We did as well.
An horrendous f*ckup that he deserved (and got) a lot of shit for at the time. But we weren't winning that series either, some lads need to let go.
Were we not? It was knife-edge stuff and he went and fully rammed the knife right up his jacksie
We had lost the first test and were drawing in the second with time either up or all but up. When he got the ball the question was whether to boot it out and accept the best we could get was a drawn series or have a crack at getting the win.
I am.... not convinced that kicking the ball away was the most effective way to launch a counter attack to win the game.

Wha daur meddle wi' me?
They were kind enough to give us some stupid penalties but as I recall last 15-20 was all Boks. Lads were dropping like flies around the time BOD went off.
Absolutely should've taken the draw but it's a bit generous then thinking SA go and rotate almost the entire team for a now not-so-dead rubber 3rd test.
Still, what a series. Don't make them like that anymore.

It's how we lost those games, though - first Test they blitzed us then we came back at them and they had to do the old Smit switcheroo to try and steady the ship; second Test we blitzed them instead and really should've won it. Would've made the third Test a real humdinger.Mahoney wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 5:16 pm We had lost the first test and were drawing in the second with time either up or all but up. It wasn’t just the stupid penalty that allowed them to win. It was ROG who missed the tackle that resulted in them scoring the try that leveled the scores. Until he came on, the Lions were leading.Mahoney wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 5:16 pm We had lost the first test and were drawing in the second with time either up or all but up. And what position had he been put in when he came on?Lobby wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 7:05 pmIt wasn’t just the stupid penalty that allowed them to win. Ellis would have been a better use of resources.
Also, he didn't miss the tackle. He got mangled trying to make it.
Lost both our centres in the space of 2 minutes and we had no cover on the bench for that eventuality.

I was roaring that at the top of my hysterical lungs in the pub watching the substitution unfold much to the amusement of all around me. A few minutes later lads are staring at me slackjawed like I was some idiot rugby savant, and Saffers were lining up to buy me commiseration pints.Uncle fester wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 7:20 pmAnd what position had he been put in when he came on?Lobby wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 7:05 pmIt wasn’t just the stupid penalty that allowed them to win. Sooo fecking frustrated I coudn't drink any more, stormed out in a huff, disgusted.
Just as 99% of folks have never forgiven/forgotten ROG for what unfolded, I have never forgiven/forgotten Ian McGeechan et al. They funked under pressure to a greater extent than ROG did, for me.
So he made the tackle, did he...?Uncle fester wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 7:20 pmAnd what position had he been put in when he came on?Lobby wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 7:05 pmIt wasn’t just the stupid penalty that allowed them to win.
