Conservative MP Jamie Wallis has been charged with failing to stop after a car crash last November.

South Wales Police said Mr Wallis, 37, from Cowbridge, Vale of Glamorgan, has also been charged with failing to report the crash, careless driving and leaving a vehicle in a dangerous position.

Police said the alleged incident happened in Llanblethian, near Cowbridge.

He will appear in court next month.

I'm surprised that another one of his announcements during the India trip, that there is a "realistic possibility that Russia will win the war" didn't garner more attention? It was covered (for about a day) in the US media and it pissed the yanks off for sure - the US state department responded to press questions saying they did not agree with this assessment. The Ukrainians also released a statement in response - disagreeing with his assessment.

It was seen as potential encouragement to the Russians - that they stand to gain from their actions and that the commitment of the west to Ukrainian cause was conditional. If I was being charitable, I guess he was trying to warn against complacency but I don't feel any need to give the clown the benefit of the doubt.

From what I can gather the GLP's case was that the Government should not be using private phones and email accounts to conduct government business where vast sums of public money is changing hands because these communications can be, and have been, deleted and become untraceable by any auditing system.

That doesn't seem like an unreasonable position to me.

The court agreed with the Gov's argument that, as things stand, there is no legal duty for them to behave otherwise.

However, "in view of the importance of the issues" the court granted the GLP leave to appeal the decision.

That document was published today, and the judgment was made public, what, 4 hours ago? You might be a teensie bit obsessed with the GLP, or more accurately with Maugham. Having said that, I don't see Jolyon Maugham's name anywhere in that document...

On the face of it, this was actually a useful case to bring. Having important communications recorded is a bulwark against corruption, which is a live worry with this government. I have no idea if the GLP will prevail with their appeal, but personally I hope they do. I cannot see how it is good for the future health of democracy in this country if ministers are able to conduct business with no audit trail. Note that's not the same as me claiming it's unlawful - because right now we know it's not.
