Federer - I like watching the best - Purely for the style of his play - Effortless poetry
Nadal - Is a physical animal that never gives in - Most likeable person of the three - Humble and decent
Novax - Hard to like as a person - But will probably end up with the most Slams - Relentless smugness

Novax, won’t be at the French Open as the “vax passport” will be mandatory, could be Nadal’s 14th victory there, bringing him his 22nd title .
I went to bed after the second set with Medvedev 2 sets to love up. Thought he'd win easily. Although tbf he kind of stole the 2nd set against the run of play. Thought I'd just put on the recording to watch the final set next morning not knowing the result. Sat there from about 10am until 1pm as Nadal came back to grind out an incredible 5 set victory.
Never been Nadal's biggest fan but there is no denying his greatness. Absolutely epic come from behind win.

Sticking to his guns.

Why does he do this stuff.
Can't be pleasant for his opponent to win a match against a very good player and have said player throw a tantrum.

I'm only half joking when I say he does it for twitter clicks and online notoriety/cred.inactionman wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 10:03 amWhy does he do this stuff.

Yep. Primarily baseball and American football. Tennis was something of an afterthought

You picked a good place to go - flushing meadows is definitely on my bucket list, my ex tennis coach's brother runs a company who arrange tennis trips and that was one of the tournaments on offer. Never got round to it.
Atmosphere good? Wimbledon can be OK but it's all a bit Cliff Richard.

that's brilliant actually.EnergiseR2 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 12:54 pm A mate said Wimbledon is like a load of people pretending they are at Wimbledon. Made me laugh
All the money you made will never buy back your soul
Also Yankee Stadium being a soulless dump. Went to Citifield (Mets), Target Field (Twins) and the Great American Ballpark (Reds). Got a double header at the Reds because the previous day was rained off and saw this little beauty
Reds was my 12th MLB stadium that I’ve seen a game at.

Djokovic back in Australia, and after hating him, now the crowds love him

The whole affair was ridiculous tbh, they tried to make an example of him but in the long run his position has proven the most reasonable.Calculon wrote: ↑Mon Jan 02, 2023 10:30 am Djokovic back in Australia, and after hating him, now the crowds love him

The aussie public was gripped with a self righteous fever and their politicians responded.Hugo wrote: ↑Mon Jan 02, 2023 8:20 pmThe whole affair was ridiculous tbh, they tried to make an example of him but in the long run his position has proven the most reasonable.Calculon wrote: ↑Mon Jan 02, 2023 10:30 am Djokovic back in Australia, and after hating him, now the crowds love him

Wishing a full and rapid recovery to Martina Natratilova, one of the finest women tennis players ever.

A very strange affair all around. Some pundits were desperate for him to made into an anti vax pariah when in reality he just made the personal decision not to get vaccinated on medical grounds.Calculon wrote: ↑Mon Jan 02, 2023 10:16 pmThe aussie public was gripped with a self righteous fever and their politicians responded.Hugo wrote: ↑Mon Jan 02, 2023 8:20 pmThe whole affair was ridiculous tbh, they tried to make an example of him but in the long run his position has proven the most reasonable.Calculon wrote: ↑Mon Jan 02, 2023 10:30 am Djokovic back in Australia, and after hating him, now the crowds love him

Considering he is probably more careful about what he puts into his body than 99% of the population and is obviously incredibly fit it was strange how many people did not give him the benefit of the doubt.
It was a perfect example of how an issue is politicised in the modern climate.
Except he wandered around hugging people in public after claiming he had Covid... it had a very dodgy feel to it all... if genuine he was careless in his behaviour.. I'm not convinced he genuinely had Covid at the perfect convenient time... hence him behaving as if he didn't have Covid...
This. Also the 'test result' sequence number didn't line up with their current testing sequence numbers. Just all dodgy.Grandpa wrote: ↑Fri Jan 06, 2023 8:58 amExcept he wandered around hugging people in public after claiming he had Covid... it had a very dodgy feel to it all... if genuine he was careless in his behaviour.. I addressed this earlier, but a couple of posters seem intent on rewriting history to suit their agenda. Djokovic lied to Australia's border force, providing faked test results. He did this in an effort to get around the government policy at the time regarding vaccination and infection for entry.
Additionally, earlier in the pandemic phase, he had hosted a tournament flouting advice around contact and transmission risk. It's pertinent to suggest that perhaps he had his own political agenda running throughout the whole process and came unstuck.
Trying to paint the Australian govt as some sort of villain here is misguided or ill informed.
Fascinating, but completely irrelevant as to why he was deported.
It was a political decision taken by Scotty's government because it was popular with the Australian public.

We were there 4 years ago when he supposedly played his final match. We were sitting two rows behind his team. I've never seen determination and fight like it, he could barely walk but fought a five setter until one in the morning. One of the greatest sporting events I have seen.inactionman wrote: ↑Tue Jan 17, 2023 9:58 amHis willpower is unreal - I don't always find his style easy on the eye but I love watching the sheer fight in him.

Murray wins another 5 setter. Apparently the longest match of his career, which is pretty astonishing given his age & injury record.
Left hand down a bit
Andy Fucking Murray.
3 hours ago he was two sets and a break of serve down.
Just won 4-6 6-7 7-6 6-3 7-5.
Five and three quarter hours, finishing at ten past four in the morning.
Two days after he spent nearly five hours beating the world number 14.
On a metal fucking hip.

I find the whole thing glorious but also quite sad. He is just killing himself for scraps and the adoration he gets for these sort of mental performances. I think it's about time he called it a day and spent more time with his wife and young kids.
I dunno, I get the feeling that he does actually like playing tennis and being a sportsman. Certainly compared to some tennis players for whom it's just a job or a ticket to the high life.
