They’ve never really been “pro-New Zealand” and mostly been “anti-South Africa” for all their lives.
Then Apartheid ended and they somehow had to keep justifying their support of a foreign team (regardless of the racial makeup of the Boks). The mental gymnastics was easy though, as long as the ABs were playing winning, entertaining rugby and the Boks were struggling. Who wants to change your team to a loser, right?
Now they are painted into a corner and it’s so satisfying watching them squirm.

Must say Mbombela Stadium was great yesterday. Sure AF enjoyed it.
This test was played in Nelspruit, not in fokken Slaapstad.Blake wrote: ↑Sun Aug 07, 2022 11:25 amThey are fair weather fans though and have only ever supported dominant sides (ABs and Crusaders) and with the current run of AB performances they have been nice and quiet. Have a look at the demographics of the crowd on the telly. Whites and a lot of Black people. I don't remember seeing 1 Cape Crusader in the crowd.
What I heard was "Bok Ke", not fukken "All Blecks".

Do you honestly think any of our players are better than Gelant at fb currently.
People have short memories. Gelant turned the Stormers fortunes around in the URC. Him and Willie are genuine game breakers. He decided that he would rather leave the Stormers for better pastures and now he is kak. I am watching the URC and will see if the Stormers perform as well without him.

Come on Sards, Willemse defense on the All Blacks giant Clarke and his follow up on that yesterday was something of a beauty. Not even superstar Gelant can't do that. Hope they pick Gelant on the wing for Saturday.Sards wrote: ↑Sun Aug 07, 2022 3:08 pm

Willie has been very good for the bom squad. Won't mind him starting. Must say our bom squad has been special. Look like Duanne will be back this weekend.
Not much to say on it really. Posted after the match the All Blacks looked like a Hurricanes side with some big names, that tour SA and get done up front and then all the big names look less good because they've got no decent ball, then they lose looking like headless chickens doing Barbarians stuff in desperation.
The key is the scrum, such a big advantage for the Boks when they can get penalties most scrums from the second shove, when they can keep the ball in there as long as possible until the penalty comes. Doesn't always work, does a lot of the time though.
Boks still need to keep the ball in hand more when they have momentum in the opponents half though, they were a bit conservative and left points on the park. Not every match is a final. The biggest All Blacks loss ever is 21 points, these two matches are the best chance we've had at that record since the 2004 match or maybe the 2009 matches.

Our extra frontrow (Ox/Dweba/Tank) will walk in the All Blacks team. Will like to see them getting a chance.

I am also unhappy with the high kick tactics. Was hoping the All Blacks field it better. We start so well with phase play then the score came after a high one and I knew this will keep coming. Next week same tactic.

Wiese is growing on me. I was never a fan, thought him a cheap thug who's just one implosion away from a card but he was immense in the last few games he played. Very disciplined, focused, a titan in defence and very hard to bring to ground in the carry. He just pops up everywhere. Proper hard grafting 8.

After watching the Aus VS Arg game I will be very disappointed if we lose this RC.
I've watched it several times. He backed himself by letting him go on the outside and chasing him down. It's really a special piece of play from Willemse.OomStruisbaai wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 6:55 am(Sorry AF)
Then he jump up and nearly tackled the try scorer.

Clarke is a special player, myself thought he was gone.Kurt Lee Arendse performance against the giant was very special. He made that mistake in the end but vokket he had a jol in everything. Defense , attack, attacking high balls. Our 7s players took our attacking play to a new level in the URC aswell.assfly wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 7:06 amI've watched it several times. He really needs to fix his technique if he's going to have a future in the Bok jersey. Contesting high balls is such a critical part of a Bok winger's job, and his red card was just so awful.OomStruisbaai wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 7:12 am Kurt Lee Arendse performance against the giant was very special. He has come on in leaps & bounds.
He was brilliant on Saturday, even under the high ball.
I don't rate Clarke that highly tbh. His opposite number was off the field when he made that break, and having got past Willemse initially, he lacked the gas to finish it himself. And don't get me started on his defensive frailties...OomStruisbaai wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 7:12 amClarke is a special player, myself thought he was gone.Kurt Lee Arendse performance against the giant was very special. I haven't watch it again, thought he broke through our midfield and try to go on the outside of Willemse.Gumboot wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 7:21 amI don't rate Clarke that highly tbh. Yes this was the only frustrating part of the weekend for me, as soon as the All Blacks started struggling under the high ball, you just knew the Boks were going to kick a lot more after being much more ball in hand early on in the game. I don't mind the kicks in our half and in the middle of the field but those kicks right on their 22 was doing my head in. The kick where Arendse got his red card really was not needed considering how late in the game it was. When Pollard kicked there you could see that Arendse did not seem ready for the kick as he was quite late in chasing and never looked like he was going to get close. Hopefully he will learn to know when to go for the ball and when to pull out of the chase. At the Bulls I cant remember him ever getting into dangerous challenges like that. Then again he Bulls do not tend to kick close to the 22. But for a small guy his is a real pest in the air, making life really difficult for guys much bigger than him. Even in defense he was standing his ground against the big guys.OomStruisbaai wrote: ↑Sun Aug 07, 2022 10:21 pm I am also unhappy with the high kick tactics. The atmosphere in the stadium was fantastic and really loud and it just kept going the whole game. Puts some of the bigger stadiums to shame. And to think a few months back there were people complaining because the match was held in that stadium, saying nobody will pitch up, it would be dead, etc

This is a very good summary of Willemse's terrific performance. He was just so involved at critical stages. My Motm for sure. Jaden H has also impressed the crap out of me. I was a doubter but he's really thriving in the Bok setup. So composed and executed flawlessly.
He broke through a couple of defenders into space and went around Willemse. Looked like he was gone for all money. But he now has just one try from his first five tests.OomStruisbaai wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 7:29 amI haven't watch it again, thought he broke through our midfield and try to go on the outside of Willemse.Gumboot wrote: ↑Mon Aug 08, 2022 7:21 amI don't rate Clarke that highly tbh.
