Unbelievably, yes!
Apologies for the slight bum steer on the pic. Hasty search for one that did not give the game away in the link.

So, I am now co-owner of:
which is going to keep me busy as a retirement project.
Was offered Kemble's PR9
but sadly the costs of moving her were mental and so now she will probably be scrapped

I read Roland White’s book about the Falklands a while ago. Chile has an island (San Felix?) out in the Pacific. There were plans to fly PR9s from there. I don’t think they materialised but there were some Nimrod flights from there.Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 8:38 am So, I am now co-owner of:

That seems a bit odd because Chile is to the West of Argentina (obviously Falklands to the East) so, if you were going to fly from Chilean territory, you'd do it from land: all the islands bar Tierra DF are out in the Pacific so further West. I can't see how Chile allowing the RAF to operate from one of their islands would have been seen by the Argies and any different to flying out of Santiago!
Easier to keep low profile if based in the islands. There was some crazy sounding scheme where they would land PR9s to top up fuel on a road in the Chilean desert. The Nimrod did do a recce trip from San Felix, maybe only one as they wrecked the undercarriage landing back on the short runway.Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 9:25 amThat seems a bit odd because Chile is to the West of Argentina (obviously Falklands to the East) so, if you were going to fly from Chilean territory, you'd do it from land: all the islands bar Tierra DF are out in the Pacific so further West. The whole war was makeshift. Was talking with Dave Castle (Black Buck 6: the Rio incident) earlier in the year and he talked, amongst other comic moments, how there was no procedure to destroy the secret documents aboard the Vulcans in the event of them being captured.GogLais wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 3:16 pmEasier to keep low profile if based in the islands. Is that a Vampire or one of the other Avro twin-boomed models beginning with V?Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 8:38 am So, I am now co-owner of:

When I was a kid, Vampires would fly from the nearby RAAF airbase.
Edit
De Havilland, not Avro. FFS!

Sad to report the sole Czech Hurricane was lost at an airshow on Sunday, killing the pilot.

There is news footage of the crash but it shows nothing to indicate the cause so not worth watching so I've not linked.

Ah, hadn’t swiped far enough up. Saw loads of Vampires in the 50s from RAF Valley, followed by Gnats. Also some twin piston engine trainer - Varsity or Oxford?GogLais wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 8:42 amEnglish Electric Canberra.MungoMan wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 8:14 amIs that a Vampire or one of the other Avro twin-boomed models beginning with V?Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 8:38 am So, I am now co-owner of:

They would have been Vickers Varsity twin-engine crew trainers. Even had a bomb aimer's position. I will admit to getting on a bit now, very nearly as old as the Canberra.Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 12:49 pmDon't think Varsity were trainers. Never seen an Oxford!

I was lucky enough to sit in the Pilot & Navigator's seats on the Black Buck Vulcan. Fantastic day out to RAF Waddington.
There were 7 Black Buck missions and more than 1 Vulcan involved. 3 (maybe 4) I think.
Been lucky enough to forge some relationship with XM655 at Wellesbourne so hoping to get to experience what you have. And an EGR too with luck!

All I can remember was that this was the last flyable one from the missions... I can't remember if that was the one still flying on the Airshow Circuit back then. OTTOHM I don't know if XH558 was one of the Black Buck participants. As an aside, they've just been screwed by Doncaster Airport (which many had warned would happen) and so now have to move...... which will cost a small fortune.mat the expat wrote: ↑Mon Aug 22, 2022 9:48 amAll I can remember was that this was the last flyable one from the missions... Otherwise it's a complete dismantle and reassemble, hence the costs.

That is not the same thing. Museum pieces are cut and shut jobs because they are not intended to run again. In the case of the Vulcan we are talking disassembly to later reassemble in order to maintain operational capability. Just think of the complexity involved! Here is the Jetstream that went from Cranfield to (well, I can't say but it's in Scotland) and it took a couple of weeks and a very large sum of money to do:laurent wrote: ↑Tue Aug 23, 2022 9:26 amMost museum pieces domat the expat wrote: ↑Tue Aug 23, 2022 8:56 amThey have to move the Vulcan by land?Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 22, 2022 12:24 pm

Chop job probably 10% of the cost.
