I really like Sykes. He's a total c*nt. We always ask where our nasty bastards are and he's right there.

I also really like Christine. So many classy touches and you can tell he's a good guy.

You can see why the coaches fancy Kinghorn at 10, he was sensational when he came on.

Both Edinburgh and Glasgow have always looked at Super 6 players by bringing them in to train. What is a little surprising just now is that both are having a look at players who had been tried and discarded by previous regimes. Which is a good thing imho. Not everyone matures at the same rate and there will be players who really only grow into themselves later.

And different coaches look for different qualities and skills in a player. Smith and Wilson won't have the same profile they look to. Not will Blair and Smith. It's one of the reasons I think ideally academies would be done by draft but I appreciate travel etc for players means that's not always a good idea.

I think there are a few young players who just fall by the wayside due to badly timed/long-lasting injuries as well.

Bit of a Scottish (sort of in Jack's case) influx to LI today.

Patrick Harrison and Jamie Jack join on loan from Edinburgh as injury cover, whilst Logan Trotter also signs after a successful trial. All three are in the 23 to play in the Prem Cup tomorrow (Trotter and Harrison starting)

Good move for Logan Trotter, he had been doing pretty well in the Super 6 but didn't really get a look in at Glasgow.

Harrison is a great prospect, had his senior debut for us at 18 which is ridiculous for a hooker. He's very busy around the park.

Harrison does look like a terrific prospect. We need Cherry, Brown and McInally to get a few more years in and then Ashman and Harrison will be competing for the international places (caveat - don't know what the Glasgow prospects are like).

Trotter looks an interesting one. One of those value signings that sometimes come good, like Rowe did last year. Like the look of the little Super 6 footage I've seen from him.

One of my favourite Scottish rugby away kits for a while. I like something different and tastefully unique. I think generally Macron have done a lot of kits lately.

He was impressive tonight. Set piece was good. Scored a try hanging off the back of a maul and showed a real turn of pace with a couple of breaks up field following overthrown Quins lineouts.

Hrmmm, I try to be as positive as possible, but to me that looks like they've washed the white jersey with the coloured ones, it'll grow on me, I'm sure.

I think the Embra jerseys this year are top class, as are the Glasgow ones.

I’m hoping the training top with the city background is available, but often the players training tops aren’t.

Edit - it’s a map of Edinburgh actually, as modelled by Mish here

I agree, Biffer, that is a great top. There was one a couple of years ago, a blue and white hooped training jersey that looked great, but wasn't available to buy.

I just saw this pic, what a great idea from Highland RFC

How does the song go - "things can only get better ?

The back row is much better balanced - lets forget the experiment with Matt F at openside

Cummings coming into the 2nd row is most welcome - He is now one of Glasgow's most influential players now

The backs being completely unchanged is however surprising

Horne's natural game would suit how Franco wants to play the game , but Horne is showing a hesitancy in his game , which is stifling the team , nit sure if it is just having new 10/12 combinations that are just not clicking , but may yet come good

It's way too early in the season to label this as a "must win " - but that what it almost feels like .

Weather forecast looks OK , maybe the tartan rug & waterproofs can be left at home

That fixes the selection issues in the pack last week, where Sordoni, Bean and Manjezi didn't show much.

Not sure about the Horne and Jordan pairing at half back.

I'd give Jordan a second chance over Horne. Horne has been below par for a while, which makes it harder for an inexperienced 10 coming in.

I think for Horne to be effective you have to play Rennie-esk or Townsend's fastest rugby in the world. His fundamentals are barely pro standard but just a ridiculous player in space.

Horne just hasn't developed really. He's 27 now amd should be in his prime years.

I saw from an SRU feed on FB that Finn Russell turns 30 today.

HB, Finn etc, but blimey that came around quickly, it doesn't seem that long ago he was breaking through into the Glasgow starting side.

In Sexton years that means we'll have Russell playing for Scotland for the rest of the decade.

More likely he'll just stop when he gets bored with it and just walk away

Just means you're getting old

Exactly right about when he walks away - it's about him enjoying himself. If he's still having fun he'll still do it, although I think he's a lot prouder about playing for Scotland than people generally think though - if it was solely about enjoying it he might have walked away already.

Strong Edinburgh side for Saturday, only really Watson and Boff missing from this I think. I reckon that's a smart move from Blair, they haven't got their internationals, it's a good time to be taking a full squad to South Africa.

I actually thought Horne looked pretty decent n the -st half last week. Needs confidence

He was maybe a bit fortunate with the card though, think that could have been a red away from home.

It was one of those ones that would be a harsh red, but nearer a red than a yellow. With a better TV angle he might have gone

I could see it being given, the mitigating factor for me was him being the second tackler.

I have been critical of Tuipolutu before but he's been very good tonight. Turns out that he can pass.

Wee Dodd was my favourite player a few years ago, then his form went down the pan when he got all gobby in a European game.

It's great to see him back playing like this
