The Official English Rugby Thread
Looks like Biggar might be leaving Saints to join Toulon with immediate effect. Not sure how long he was expected to be out injured but with Furbank away with England it leaves us a bit thin at 10 unless Fin Smith has recovered from his jaw injury.

Brown being behind Halfpenny and Maitland as an international fullback is such obvious bait that I can't be mad about it.
Quoting myself is not a good look, but Fin Smith starts for Saints this weekend against Bristol, that's a pretty big ask.

It was coming - Wasps suspended and relegated.

He should spend the next month in the Championship for that.
Hodnett is normally very good, CMK however is at Adamson level of shite.Margin__Walker wrote: ↑Sat Oct 29, 2022 4:05 pm He should spend the next month in the Championship for that.

I don't think the onfield ref was too bad. That fuckup was completely on the TMO.

That's a bit much.
Loader wasn't penalised for a similar incident in the first half, Irish survived without a yellow for multiple pens on their own line, Parton rolled on the floor multiple times directly before the second try, etc. etc. There's moments throughout a game, we shouldn't allow recency bias to dictate too much.
For balance Care's perhaps a bit lucky that his actions weren't looked at a bit more closely around the Nick David red. Would need to see again, but it looked like he could've received a yellow himself.

That's a pretty weak comparison. van Rensburg was in complete possession of the ball. The Quins player in the first half wasn'tsockwithaticket wrote: ↑Sat Oct 29, 2022 4:17 pmThat's a bit much.

They're both penalties, but Matthews' is a card.
Anyway we clearly got away with that. Irish defence was brilliant but how pumped up they were probably led to all those high tackles. Pissed off with David, no fullbacks available now.
Still can't work out why Irish are bottom of the league

Okay, just about calmed down after that.
Could do with one of these close games going our way at some point if it's not going to be a very disappointing season. Three games have been right in the balance at the death (two against Bristol/Gloucester with us pressing on the opposition line and the one today), and we've not managed to engineer a win in any of them.
Not really a season you want to finish 11th with all the talk of ten team leagues, commissioners and financial peril.

Decent chance he gets cited for that.
"It's not a tackle in the air" "Matthews is just challening for the ball" - The Quins board is as hilarious as ever
I was genuinely shocked when I saw that Irish were bottom with 1 win this season. They are a far better side than that.

I don't think it's a citing. One of those things really. He's going for the ball, so would be harsh.JM2K6 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 29, 2022 7:30 pm Decent chance he gets cited for that.

Yeah, one win, with the Worcester win obviously wiped off. The little things just aren't going right to get our nose over the line at the moment. We're not a million miles off, but it starts to look ugly if you lose a few more. All good fun.
Edit - On the game today, we had chances to put ourselves in a better position to win it, so any post mortem needs to start there really. Donnell is such a frustrating player. He could be really good, but he's just a bit of a space cadet. You can count on him to do something silly at a key moment in every game he plays.
Got to say, as a cynical depressed neutral, I don't see much wrong with what Matthews did to be honest. Neither of them had eyes on their surroundings, but they both got up off the ground, were about equal heights, both going for the ball. Matthews was slightly later, but not by such a margin that I'd say he was attempting to tackle.JM2K6 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 29, 2022 7:30 pm Decent chance he gets cited for that.

Give a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
He ends up tackling him though
and van Rensburg lands dangerously and whacks his head pretty hard. Appreciate it wasn't directly head to ground, but it's still a fuckup by Matthews where instead of getting the ball he tackled the guy in the air and caused a head injury.

I'm just glad he's given the commentators another topic of conversation than verbally masturbating over Goode. Ekyn claiming that it's scandalous for him to only have 21 caps is one of the silliest things to have escaped a BT commentator's mouth in some time.
What you mean apart from Healey saying they should play Mcfarland on the wing?sockwithaticket wrote: ↑Sun Oct 30, 2022 3:58 pmI'm just glad he's given the commentators another topic of conversation than verbally masturbating over Goode. Alex Goode is one of the most talented English backs to play rugby in the last 30 years you tool.

I'm having a dig at BT's penchant for manic hyperboly, not one of your precious Saracens. Goode has been a very good servant to his club and an extremely valuable Prem player, but it is by no means a scandal that he didn't receive more international caps.Kawazaki wrote: ↑Sun Oct 30, 2022 7:06 pmsockwithaticket wrote: ↑Sun Oct 30, 2022 3:58 pmI'm just glad he's given the commentators another topic of conversation than verbally masturbating over Goode.
