So similar infection totals to NSW? Suggests that, like NSW, it's nothing to panic about but probably more embedded into the community than we know.

It looks like the Nat's can't resist the Trumpian-like propensity for dirty politics.
Election 2020: Judith Collins says she can't control husband after series of anti-Jacinda Ardern Facebook posts
https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politi ... book-posts
“We’ve been together for 41 years I’ve never been able to get him to do anything I tell him to do,” she said.

“It’s not something I would do, but he’s an adult, he makes his own decisions I think he gets sick of people having a go at him and me.”
Seriously, Crusher! You want to be leader but can't ask your husband to keep his puerile predilections to himself for a month of two? Yeah Right! Your lack of condemnation of the sentiments behind the posts, if not the person is telling.

Her defense there is to ask ‘how do you control a 64yr old male who played rugby and was a policeman’...

Uh Judith, you don’t try to control anyone. You campaign for standards or you accept poor ones. You don’t run away from accountability by saying you can’t control someone. What a cunt act... from both of them.

This is hilarious hypocrisy coming from a Labour supporter who has watched Jacinda and her senior ministers refuse to take accountability for ANYTHING in these past six months and won't tolerate the slightest criticism of his dear leader.

Actually correction. About 34 months isn't it?

I don't condone the posts Collin's husband has made. Pretty puerile but I like the way Crusher front foots it and says too bad, get a life. She's not backing down to the perpetually offended brigade. Contrast that with that meek twat Muller who felt the need to hide his MAGA hat away instead of telling the critics to get fucked.

Partners entering the political debate has been a long-standing part of US politics and is creeping in more here.

No matter how Judith Collins fronted it, I‘m sure David Wong-Tung will have had the clear message behind closed doors that making those posts wasn’t smart. We had Clarke Gayford poking fun at National at Labour’s campaign launch recently as well.

Being supportive is one thing but to me, crossing to criticising the opposition isn’t a good look.

Cmon guys,

You know there’s nothing wrong with Clark having a little fun because he’s Jacinda’s partner and therefore immune from criticism. :Bulldog:

There's currently a series on Stuff about the ChCh earthquake recovery called "Munted". Number 3 is about as succinct as it can be with regard to the handling of the Red Zones in particular, the stonewalling and pushing aside of the affected people.

Here's a taste:
Mike Coleman wrote: I think I was naive, standing on that street corner, thinking I would hear something that was a helpful way forward for 5000 homes.

You hold affected homeowners in your heart. It’s a heavy weight. It’s justice, you’re fighting, and you’re coming from a negative stance all the time. You’re battling a government that had a massive concrete wall up. I now realise they appointed Gerry not because he was a Cantabrian, but because he could shut it down. There was no dialogue, no transparency.

As a New Zealander I’d backpacked around the world. You see some really corrupt governments, and I don’t think our government was corrupt in any sense, but you come home and go, “I’m in New Zealand. If something happens, they’re going to back me.” And lots of times, governments do.

But in this case, they got it seriously wrong.

Advice to Minister Woods is, despite what the opposition are claiming, the Auckland outbreak is unlikely to have come from MIQ facilities.

Aren’t there a relatively high percentage of cases (40%?) where genomic testing isn’t possible? I understood that in cases where testing was possible that there wasn’t a link but wouldn’t have thought advice could be stronger than that - certainly not that genomic testing showed things were unlikely to have come from isolation.

Have things changed or is the % where testing is possible higher than I understood?

Corruption is endemic within NZ but Kiwi's have such a proud mentality of being better than everyone else in the world they either bury their heads in the sand when confronted by it or pass it off by justifying it in some way.

Judith Collins has taken to the leadership like a duck to water and despite the never ending hiccups she just keeps batting on with the determination of a Daniel Vettori forlornly trying to avoid the follow on.

James Shaw gave a masterclass in contrition. He might have just saved the election for the Greens and Labour. It appears he learned the lesson well from Turei's example at the last election.

This election is going to be close, can't wait for the leaders debates!

National will go up. The chances of Labour governing alone just evaporated. Collins is the Anti-Jacinda and this election suddenly became very entertaining.
Yeah, they went up about 2%. Any other predictions?

Judith Collins yet again is either not aware of what the party is doing or is not in any control as to their style and operation leading up to the election. It begs the question whether this might be an ongoing problem for her, or is she experiencing early onset memory issues?

Yeah much preferable for them to stay right out of it. In the US of course they have the ridiculous premise that the 1st Lady is somehow important and has a role to play in her husband's presidency. Totally ridiculous and we are fortunate that there is nothing resembling such nonsense in our political system.

Two new cases. One from the Auckland cluster and one via the border. Hopefully this is a good sign and not just a lull.

1 dead today. RIP.

That brings the total deaths to Covid in NZ to 23.

We also had 5 new cases recorded today, 2 imported, 2 in the Auckland cluster.

Auckland is staying at level 2.5.
Steve

Cases are the new sexy number. The curve was flattened but they still want us under their thumb.

Property Investors Federation spokesman Andrew King has suggested landlords hold off installing a heat pump for tenants, saying a change in government could see the law reversed, and that some tenants don’t actually want new heat pumps. He has Hayden Donnell’s attention.

New Zealand has long led the world in two shameful categories: Hobbit movies, and cold, unlivable, houses per capita. The government tried to undermine our claim to that latter record with the passage of the Healthy Homes Guarantees Act 2017, which requires landlords to insulate and ventilate their rental properties, and ensure tenants can heat their living rooms to 18℃. National has announced it’s against the bill, with leader Judith Collins arguing that while being able to heat your living room is “a good thing”, it “doesn’t pay the bills for [the] tenant”.

Andrew King, of the Property Investors Federation, yesterday welcomed Collins’ equivocation on the question of survivable living environments. In an interview with the Herald, he urged landlords to delay installing a heat pump until after the election, presumably on the off-chance they might make tenants healthier through the winter without being legally obliged to.
I don't get it - it costs the Government nothing other than supplementary benefits if the rent goes up - but saves untold thousands in saved hospital bills.

It should be a no brainer for landlords as well. A well insulated warm home will attract and retain good tenants. Although that's not guaranteed as we unfortunately found out with one dishonest nightmare tenant who didn't think they should have to do basic things like adhere to the tenancy agreement or pay rent.

I installed a heat pump in my rental property a couple of years ago as well as supplying a dehumidifier for optional use. Complied with all the other heating and insulation requirements well in advance of the official Govt cutoff.

My tenants are living in a warm cosy manor compared to the cold, damp, freezing shithole I happily lived in for 8 years.

I can't quite believe it.

You have a bunch of swinging voters in the middle like me. Reasonable income earners, nothing flash. And you have cunts in the National Party like Juco talking about landlords simply putting up rental costs to get around very fair regulations for tenants. Cunts in the media like Mark Richardson being Mark Richardson, and Mike Hosking being Mike Hosking.

Do they really think this is selling it to the centre? Taking Labour's middle ground? I very much doubt it.
