Quoting Jake:
We will be doing another one in the next 12 months- sadly the notion of moving to Xenforo was impossible due to the condition of the coding on this.

The only thing PR Forum had over this place was its volume of posters given its long history and given they're knifing that in the heart every time they lock it down for two or more days, they won't even have that much longer.

Don't think it's dead but it is facing some challenges, I did proffer some suggestions on how things could be taken forwards successfully, whether that is taken or not...

This was one of the things that I found seriously frustrating about PR. Over the years there were plenty of boredies with the requisite skills and experience offering their services gratis to try and keep the place running and updated yet they were either dismissed out of hand or ignored.

While my post history on NPR will show I'm not a fan of Jake's, to his credit he did try to take some of the offers of help and suggestions made to the people at PR who could actually make a difference - or at least he said he did. But the total lack of engagement coming in the other direction just seemed to demonstrate a complete disdain for the community.

Exactly. We were treated like an annoying sidebar to their main business which was...a B grade impression of the rugby news one could have easily gleaned from The Times, The Guardian, or any number of sports publications.

It’s worth considering the interface operating between owners and users.

Well yeah - he said he was taking suggestions and offers of help to the owners but at the same time I don't think he even understood the words he was supposedly repeating to them. I never really got the impression that he had anything above a basic level of technical literacy.

Assuming you are posting in something resembling good faith, the answer to your question is No.

Aside from any other considerations, I believe at least one Kiwi boredie has met Muttonbird / s.

There is a photo of him with 3 mods, Tae and TheAxe - he's real and he's not AC.

And Openflies was not "sacked" - he really did quit so that he could have his debates without his status coming into play - same as Sefton. Both were bloody good to work with.

Just had a quick look at PR and it does seem to be still going strong.

I haven't posted there for a few weeks, largely because of the weight of alt-right sympathisers and their strident views makes any discussion unpleasant and reasoned debate impossible, but NPR is underperforming by comparison.

To take just one thread, the Trump thread, the PR one has advanced 4 pages since Friday, while the NPR version has remained more or less static since then.

I appreciate that this is primarily a rugby forum, but the reason I connected with PR in the first place was that the demographic allowed for a well-educated membership from all rugby-playing nations which meant informed discussion of world events and special interest topics even if they weren't related to rugby specifically.

That place has declined in recent years with the Brexit loons and pro-Boris supporters unable to discuss these topics rationally yet taking over the discussion.

Someone recently said to me that Trump is the prism through which all events are currently viewed. I think that this is one such example, for the purposes of comparing two message boards the Trump thread is used as the yardstick.

Studies have proven Trump to be the most heavily covered US President in history but I think the Trump phenomenon is bigger than politics. I can't ever remember one person dominating public life to the degree he has since 2016, it is Beatlemania and every other pop culture mania since all rolled into one.

I quite like the slower pace at the moment, fits with work better and less mindless idiots.

Also, if I’m just dipping in and out then it’s the Scottish rugby thread I head to and most of the Scots are on here now.

There are other examples.

The Brexit thread is another.

On PR the thread is a toxic mess with pro-Brexit loons denouncing any attempt to point out the lunacy of leaving the EU, especially in view of the changing circumstances brought on by the pandemic.

This is a topic that will impact lives and livelihoods in the UK an in Europe and it deserves rigorous debate, but on PR any rational discussion is closed down early and on here there doesn't seem to be any interest.

Im not from the UK but using adjectives like loons to describe someone who has an alternative view to you is probably where the discourse starts to break down .
People dig their trenches online now and climb in and hunker down. No one seems to enter into a conversation in good faith willing to have their mind changed. It is a series of monologues instead of a conversation. The UK and the USA are in the vanguard of this madness.

If I gave you my own personal example ...Im pro gay marriage, pro abortion (foetuses up until the age of 23 heheh), pro legalising marijuana, pro assisted suicide, pro universal income, pro free health care, pro free education.Im completely against western intervention in the middle east and haven't supported any wars or insurgencies in my life time. However I am troubled by un-regulated immigration and the way we are brow beaten into accepting it, and think I should be allowed murder anyone who comes into my house even if they just want my stereo. I think there are only two genders. I don't think biological males should be allowed play women's sports.

Am I a looney lefty or a right wing racist scumbag? Im sure in conversations online on here or other websites someone would paint me as one or the other.

Im just a 37 year old fella, pay my taxes, do the odd triathlon, do charity work with the local guide dog foundation ad try and visit my mother as often as possible. I don't wake up in the morning to fuck anyone over.

You never know who you are talking to online anyway. You could be 45 with two kids and paying the upper rate of tax and you'll be in an internet row with a 19 year old with a humanities degree who has the solution to everything but has never had to clear an overdraft. If you're not a socialist when you're 20 you have no heart. If you are still a socialist when you're 40 you've got no head.

Id recommend reading the madness of crowds by Douglas Murray and then probably staying off the internet politics talk for a long time. Its malevolent .

Nothing against NH posters, you just naturally have different interests when it comes to rugby.

If I'm looking to find healthy debate about the All Blacks squad or the North v South game I am more likely to find it here.
