Have been drinking this Pecorino Abruzzo Contesa from TWS quite regularly. A bloody good "food" white and a snip at £9 95

I think the shop I work at sells the same wine with a slightly different label, great wine.

If you like Pecorino (the wine, obviously, not the cheese ) then Passerina is well worth a try as well.

Have been drinking this Pecorino Abruzzo Contesa from TWS quite regularly. A bloody good "food" white and a snip at £9 95

I think the shop I work at sells the same wine with a slightly different label, great wine.

If you like Pecorino (the wine, obviously, not the cheese ) then Passerina is well worth a try as well.

Pretty sure that Tesco's do one of those in their Finest Range at £8 a bottle!!

Fantastic producer! Their Rieslings are amazing, and their Pinot Noir is a cut above the Marlborough norm

Good to know, cheers. Will watch out for those. Riesling is probably my favorite white wine, I can highly recommend this one from the Mosel valley in Germany... excellent, as are many whites from Germany.

Lovely hot day here so just drinking the last glass of my last bottle of a 2018 Dorsheimer Rieslng, With a bottle of 2017 Spatlese chilling in the fridge.

I normally prefer a heavy red, at the moment I'm working my way through the last of a case of Murdei, though currently half way through a bottle of 2013 Crickle Creek Ruby Cabernet that had been overlooked for a few years.

I've been trying to run down my 'cellar' back of the workshop, since we moved, I'll restock later in the year once I can get a space properly organised.

Absolutely - it's a very special wine

When there was a group of us at La Tasca in Nottingham (don't know if it still exists) I used to order a bottle each of the Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva - most people (including myself) generally preferred the Reserva. It's a mass market brand (owned by Pernod Ricard) but it's good value for money.

Unlike Cune Frank which the Crianza and the Grand reserve are leaps bette than the reserve, some wine just do better than others at different producers.


For 10 Quid I can find some brilliant Spainish wines. For 20 some of the best.

The week before the 2011 WC final visited Framingham and they had a goal post set up and if you dropped kicked a small rugby ball through it from about 25m out you won a bottle. Having never been the best drop kicker, I stepped up nonchalantly and snapped it through... you could have heard the cellar door ladies jaw drop on the grass... picked a bottle of their riesling. Can confirm it was fantastic.

La Tasca is closed now afaik. As for the Rioja, I think the Gran Reserva is just too old. The orange labelled Reserva is a much better choice as an everyday wine.

Nice review again. To clarify, the Selbach-Oster is a "Riesling Kabinett". In Germany, "Kabinett" is a distinctive title for a class of lighter wines, made from ripe grapes and low on alcohol. Not what one would usually suspect under "Riesling".

Ridge make some amazing Zinfandels/blends, though they are not cheap. Otherwise look for Lodi Zin, especially Ravenswood

Funnily enough, I decided to treat myself and order a bottle of ridge Zinfandel from majestic a month ago, but it didn’t arrive.

They sent me the ridge cab sav instead. I was pissed off, until I saw the cab sav was twice the price of the Zinfandel, so I suspect someone may have been generous on their substitutions policy!

I’ll order it and try it cheers

You ever tried 1000 stories? That’s one of the best value wines I’ve ever come across. Big and smooth. And if timed well, you can get it for a tenner at Sainsbury’s.
