People who talk about Mother Earth or Mother Nature as if there is an intelligent agency that should be respected.

Because

if there isn’t: it’s all random chance, who gives a fuck what happens, all species eventually die.

If there is, she’s a maniacal psychopath who has killed or will kill everything living thing in a variety of gruesome ways.

Mother Nature is a cunt

Perhaps she's just getting every living thing back for literally shitting on her for billions of years.

Maybe Uncle Solar System can send an asteroid to wipe her out.

Uncle solar system would surely like to hit DAT ASS.. lets face it, even if we are the only planet with intelligent lifeforms for light years, we are the arseholes of that universe.. if somehow magically a piece of the sun broke and headed straight for us, we'd be busy fighting over which god will save us than actually do something/anything to stop it from hitting us even if science tells us the exact time and place it will hit us..though i do feel china might be the ONLY country that will not just aim but launch its nuclear weapons into space to try and counter it.. they really should make a movie on this, exactly on this, it will be "contagion" of 2020

Yes that's certainly the case for junior staff, but the allocation becomes more generous for senior or long tenured staff, for example I have 27 days PTO. It's just another component of your compensation package that can be negotiated when you're hired.

Way more than a nuisance. My FIL was intubated 2 weeks ago and my partner has flown down there to be with her family. Had flights booked back on Friday evening. Today it turns out that her sister and BIL arr symptomatic and she has to quarantine for 2 weeks.

Still toit by Australasian standards. I am by no means senior management but have 20 days leave, another 5 days sick no questions asked and access to another 15 or so with a doctor's certificate. I'm not sure we even test that last one rigourously given 1. I am such a committed worker so never test the limits and 2. some people seem to be away A LOT.

Surely if you shot enough nukes and early / far enough out, it would zap the asteroid ?
That film was a bit gash really, but it was deep impact where they tried the nukes but just gave a lame ‘it failed’

I reckon Oz could pitch 30 days PTO and get the sale for stock standard adult workers. It strikes me as a good system.

not if we shoot the nukes before the enter earth "uhm airspace?", nukes launched from a moonbase might be a good idea..nuclear fallout is a small issue which we can handle in time compared to the asteroid hitting us and wiping us all within 6 hours

Oh yeah, public holidays for sure, varying by a day or two by state or territory. As for long service leave, you might get a small pay out or some leave entitlement after as few as three or so years.

So....40 days PTO??

No doubt that Oz has a better work/life balance than the US, I've been here 21 years now and whilst the rewards can be good, they certainly get their pound of flesh. Fortunately I'm retiring at the end of the year, so I'll have 365 days of time off, unfortunately not paid.....

It's very unlikely anyone will hit Long Service Leave payouts with the way jobs are structured nowadays.

I used to get Leave loading when I first arrived, that's gone also.

Aussies can be terrible workaholics and put up with a surprising amount of unpaid/forced overtime.

Fuck that

Ether way I'm moving back to the Freestate just in case. They're 5 years behind the rest of SA and SA is 20 years behind the rest of the world so I'll have 25 years more than you fokors.

Yep, all meteors, that hit the Earth will have to go past the Moon, so you just drop a nuke on it as it swings by. Foolproof

Wowser, the UK must be even worse than I remember.

Trust me, Aussie is a dry, flat road of a wicket compared to the East Coast of North America.

Those poor cunts live to work.

P.S. I still get leave loading. What a novelty. I like to think of it as beer money when I am on leave.

Fecking Slack. Twitter for business, I've never met such an aptly named piece of software because it encourages people to be slack. The sheer amount of utter bollox posted to an ever burgeoning channel list drowning out actualally useful info. But they posted something so they've communicated, job done.

But it is the system du jour :bimbo:

Slack is great at my organisation - it's down to the users rather than the tech isn't it?

But why we're ion the office sandbox, I hate excessive cc-ing on emails, it drives me bonkers.

You are right of-course and I can see how it could be useful in small to medium sized businesses however in large organisations with 10's of thousands of people getting any kind of consistency of usage is neigh on impossible. This coupled with some people taking to it like a social media starved teenager freshly reunited with their phone is a recipe for frustration at best and information loss at worst. When it is seen as the primary source of information disclosure forcing people to trawl through post after post and channel after channel on a daly basis wastes time and guarantees not everyone who needs the info as will get the info. The poster however "communicated" so they wash their hands and walk away, yep it's Slack. No sir, I don't like it.

Had one those this week where we had a 25 email + 1 hour phone battle with the client, finally got them to agree and then the MD chimed in with a typo and undid the whole lot!

I have banned slack at work, bloody awful thing it is. Teams is the way to go, lots of great functionality, integrates beautifully with JIRA, Planner is a really nice piece of functionality...oh and Trello can fuck off too
