How many specialist fielders have Eng got on as subs? Ahmed as well as Potts?

Eng with everyone on the boundary for a cripple. Would have thought a slip and bowling at the stumps would be a better plan?

Beginning to look really stupid by Eng.
What an effort from Lyon. Old school. The old greenkeeper at Manuka Oval.
Proud of you mate.....

Interesting target....very gettable.
Surely England won't fall for the short ball tactic again?

It is, but I wonder if England have the nerve for it......Thor Sedan wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 3:23 pm Interesting target....very gettable.

I know the game has changed in many ways but the highest chase is 344 (albeit for 1) by the Windies some 40 years ago.Thor Sedan wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 3:23 pm Interesting target....very gettable.

Thinking about the rarity of specialist bowlers as captains and now we have Southee and Cummins but I can't recall a previous one for Aus.
Benaud was an all rounder.

Probably have to go back to Shane Warne in the 90s, though it might have been just one day gamesTorquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 5:22 pm Thinking about the rarity of specialist bowlers as captains and now we have Southee and Cummins but I can't recall a previous one for Aus.

looking at Wikipedia, Ray Lindwall was a captain for one test only and guess you could claim he was an all rounder too

Don't think Warne ever captained a test: as you say, he may have done so in pyjama. Lindwall was defo a bona fide quickie but didn't know he'd ever captained. Was top notch rugby (league) player too!tabascoboy wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 5:25 pmProbably have to go back to Shane Warne in the 90s, though it might have been just one day gamesTorquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 5:22 pm Thinking about the rarity of specialist bowlers as captains and now we have Southee and Cummins but I can't recall a previous one for Aus.

{EDIT} Wiki has him as an all rounder so I guess the position stands.

Yeah, knew it had got bad but didn’t realise it had got this bad.Biffer wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 7:42 am Pooran and Hope in now, if Scotland can break this partnership quickly we could skittle them.
Slick, WI cricket has been hollowed out over the years by a combination of bad administrators and the dominance of US sports, particularly basketball, in the Caribbean. Fifty years ago if you were six foot four and athletic you would have been straight into pace bowling. Nowadays they go to basketball.
Remember going to watch Scotland v WI in Edinburgh in ‘96 (?) and it was just a day out on tour.

- a break down of the inter island co-operation (now recriminations abound)
- plenty of corruption which seems to have taken permanent root post Stanford and
- the bizarre approach from the 90s to prepare Pakistan style dead tracks
and it's the death of Calypso cricket.

Whispering Death. Is it intimidatory bowling? What? With 70mph-plus mickey mouse pace bowling like England did? No way it’s intimidatory! Some of the batting wasn’t really bright. Let me put it this way. If this bowling was attempted at this pace to Viv Richards, Gordon Greenidge or Desmond Haynes, you would be picking the ball off the stands! Not just them, I can think of many a batsman who would have told the umpires trying to step in, ‘Oh don’t stop them, let them bowl more short stuff.
Always a dick, eh Bazza.
