O really feel for them. I also noticed their burger patties taste different. Maybe it's just that Spurs supplier..
Its not good to see a home grown brand struggling like that.
Spurs burgers were very tasty when Uli Heydt was still supplying them the patties that contained a certain amount of "zebra" meat
Yeah, I don't get whats happened here...I reckon their supplier is making them cheaper because there was that taste you get when buying pattis from a supermarket. Just don't know how to describe it....but it left an after taste. Through my pepper sauce which was tasty.

Oh I hope Spur survives...but the kid thing.....not happening anymore. The play area is closed off....and understandably....so now you have the younger kids itching to play at the table ......which is actually a nice change.

Anyone who has children.
That's it.
Yup
The one in Toti is almost my second home - beach, kids peckish and I fancy a steak or a burger, rock up full of sand and just eat and let the kids climb around and get looked after by some local Laydee for 10’rand.

I have also gone there without the kids and just have 7 draught lagers whilst gawping boobs in bikinis

I do miss them. Their food isn't going to win awards, but I never had a bad meal at a Spur.

When you've got young kids, the 30 minutes of peace that Spur brings is priceless. Just enough time to slug back a couple of pints and catch some cricket or rugby on the tv, and if you really want to push the boat out to talk to the wife.

I watched the Cheetahs win the CC and every Springbok game of the RWC at the Spur in Hillcrest with my newborn and wife.

It was a brilliant experience.

Don't think so but they're struggling like many other businesses. Also the play-zones not being open doesn't help. Most people don't go to Spur for the food, they go there for the convenience. Half of that is gone with the play zones closed so you might as well go to Sards over priced shitty joint and chew on your very nice expensive burger whilst the kids gets on your tits all the time about how bored they are.

Its not mine. Its the wife's. Didn't want to get into the nuts and bolts but we are basically seperating. I am now Steel-line and she is TCOG.

Shop got a deep clean today and we positioned most of the equipment. The Diablos go in tomorrow and most of the freezers and underbars go in on Thursday. Got my wifes office finished today so she goes in tomorrow to take control from the shop. That was my priority today. Just waiting for the Architect to approve the signage that goes outside the mall and that goes in. 2 wall counters for stools in the waiting area need to be finished and the decor we had printed will go onto the walls. TVs need to be mounted once we get the wall brackets and then the IT dude can install a media player to load the menus and the POS. Lighting needs to be finalized....all the nitty bitty shit that holds you up. Next week we start training staff. And then its go go go.....I seriously want to get finished within. I am neglecting Steel-line. Which is pumping. We had chef Jenny Ward come around Sunday to go through the costings with my wife and she switched things around a bit in the shop layout. It's better.

Ok....check list done for the day. Lads....creating a concept like this and putting it all together is not an easy task....next time will be easier.

Altho...age really is catching up on me and I am completely vokked by the end of the day

The term that you are looking for is tangy.

A proper Chef would understand the difference between a mayonnaise and an aioli.

Mud Isalnd has killed your tastebuds.
Wouldn’t a proper chef make his/her own mayonnaise and aioli?
Yeah.....every decent chef in the world makes his or her own aioli and mayonnaise when they are at home. We also churn our own butter, grow all our own veggies, slaughter our own animals and those of us lucky enough
to live at the ocean only ever catch our own fish.

I forgot to mention bake our bread too :eh:
I’m surprised you have time to do all that

Luister Oom, if you have to sit in Kathu in the middle of summer and wait a 4 or 5 hours for a flight that will probably be delayed by a Joburg thunderstorm, Spur cuisine and the obligatory attendant Castle draft is probably, nay, definitively, life saving stuff.

Know of some franchises that did not reopen after lockdown.

I haven’t tried any of the brands discussed. I guess the market leader in the UK is Hellman’s though I don’t use it. I do buy Tracklements but they are not high volume and I don’t know if they export.

Cross and Blackwell mayonnaise in South Africa is basically Heinz Salad Cream in the UK. Tangy....

Hopefully some positive news:

I had All Gold Tomato sauce tonight, for the first time in over 2.5 years. Nothing "sweet" about it, still had that wonderful tangy taste. I consider myself a connoisseur on this, seeing that I only eat tomato sauce with Mac&Cheese, scrambled eggs, French toast and of course normal home made hot dogs (the Saturday midday snack which is made from only a bun, a vienna and tomato sauce".

So hopefully Chef Chilli, you just had a bad batch.

For the last 2 years, staying with my brother and his family, we only had "ketchup". The name itself is already off-putting..... sounds like a combination of "kots en opgooi". Friggen Yanks wannabes

Now please help me solve another mystery. I've mentioned the official cancellation of Chocolate Log and Milo Bars (fecking animals!).

But what happened to Inside Story. I haven't seen them on the shelves since about March, but I've not seen any statement or announcement.

I know that Cadbury's announced the cancellation of a bunch of chocolate bars a few months ago, cannot remember what was all on it. But it seems a lot of chocolate bars that have been around for ages are disappearing sadly or already disappeared over last 5 odd years.
It seems our choice of chocolates/candies have reduced a lot over that last 10 years or so compared to what was available before.

Flipside when PepsiCo bought Pioneer Foods we may see the likes of Pro Nutro, Ceres fruit juices, Marmite, Bovril, Safari dried fruits, Moirs, White Star may go international.
