I argued for ages that Rieko should be on the wing. Pairing him with Jordie is just inviting the inevitable. It's just another example of Fozzie's weird faith in misplaced players, the Goodbloke Selection Policy in action.
Fuck him, these are his last games. He'll soon be gone.
They are far better team than what was on display lat Saturday.
Springboks vs All Blacks in London Town.

All Blacks led 17-0 after 16 mins and 20-3 at HT. 23-15 after 68 minutes.LoveOfTheGame wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 6:45 amI think what oom is trying to say is that Boks also show character to come back after being utterly outplayed by the AB's in the first 20-30 min of that test match. The All Blacks had a bad day at the office. The Boks were in NZ. The difference is that the Boks show caracter and fight back after a bad start. The Boks can improve a lot from this.
Nienaber said we are in a much better position then 2019 and that is a bit scary.
The All Blacks never fought back.
The Springboks should have scored at least twice in that opening stanza, fuck know they can improve a lot on finishing. If they have spin it more wide but they got white line fewer.

There's some truth to this. I think the ABs rarely find themselves staring at a big deficit without suffering some sort of colossal disintegration that would prevent them from scrapping it out and clawing their way back in. Which isn't a criticism.OomStruisbaai wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 8:28 amAll Blacks led 17-0 after 16 mins and 20-3 at HT. 23-15 after 68 minutes.LoveOfTheGame wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 6:45 amI think what oom is trying to say is that Boks also show character to come back after being utterly outplayed by the AB's in the first 20-30 min of that test match. Had that try stood before half time (and technically it should have) then it was a 7 point ball game... momentum shift... Scott Barrett doesn't see red... who knows what might have happened?OomStruisbaai wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 8:28 amAll Blacks led 17-0 after 16 mins and 20-3 at HT. 23-15 after 68 minutes.LoveOfTheGame wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 6:45 amI think what oom is trying to say is that Boks also show character to come back after being utterly outplayed by the AB's in the first 20-30 min of that test match. But that was the start of a fightback that was sunk by a disallowed try and a red card... second half I think they did give up as Whitelock was subbed early and they went for injury limitation instead...
SA were very, very good, but there were a number of reasons why NZ didn't play as well as they can apart from SA being good... NZ have come back against SA before... it's not unknown.
If they are as poor again against France, then you do fear for Foster's safety...

Oupa, this is exactly what I mean with the pundits. The try was reviewed and disallowed. Scot Barrett got a second yellow because he committed a reckless act. The AB's team played negative rugby due to constant pressure and it contributed massively to the stop start nature of the game. That's it, nothing more to see here, bad day at the office that's all. We know they will bounce back and be better for it.Grandpa wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 11:26 amHad that try stood before half time (and technically it should have) then it was a 7 point ball game... momentum shift... The biggest losers are probably going to be France.
The All Blacks will be fired up with a point to prove.
100% this. If that try had been allowed and Scott Barrett hadn't lost his head, a comeback would've been on the cards.Grandpa wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 11:26 am Had that try stood before half time (and technically it should have) then it was a 7 point ball game... momentum shift... But it just wasn't their night and the rugby ball's bounce didn't favour them.
I doubt we'll see the All Blacks that bad again anytime soon.
The Boks still have a lot to work on IMO.
- They should have been more clinical in the opening 20. Yes the continued pressure added value and eventually resulted in the warnings and inevitable cards, but their inability to convert that pressure into points is concerning. The 5m pick-and-drive has been defanged a lot with the change is laws when the ball is held up, and it seems like we haven't adjusted.
- Still dispointed we couldn't expoit the 1-man advantage more out wide. We had the Marx, Bongi and Kwagga tries from mauls which makes sense given NZ were are forward short, but I can't help thinking there were more opportunities out wide as well that we didn't exploit. That being said, NZ's defense was outstanding.

Irish are obviously feeling a bit left out
Coming on like a prize fighter at the weigh off shit talking his opponent, but nobody cares because it's true

Swys de Bruin gave him his dues after being quite critical after the Wales match.
Manie had a decent outing and a great kicking perfromance.
Hopefully it will be the confidence boost he needs. He'll aways make me nervous when he lines up for a critical kick, because you never know which Manie you are going to get on the day, but Willie le Roux also used to be like that and he's matured into a much more reliable player. Hopefully Manie's career follows a similar trajectory.
Yes, that too. As I have said, SA were very, very good... but little things went wrong for NZ.. like that missed easy kick and Lomax having his leg sliced open... and these little things along with sustained SAn pressure added to a perfect storm... plus it was a friendly... and you aint gonna put your body on the line in a losing cause in a friendly two weeks before the World Cup...
Sensible critique... always look for what you can improve, even when you seemingly win well...Blake wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 4:13 pm100% this. Yeah, it's rubbish. I switched off as soon as I saw that this week's guest panelist was Patrick feckin' Gower.Guy Smiley wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 1:45 pmIt’s shithouse and I don’t watch it. Basically just a bunch of ‘names’ sitting around slapping themselves and NZR on the back.
I'd like to see them replaced with a half cut Andrew Mehrtens along with Gits, Mitchell and Ashley-Cooper... a good Aussie/Kiwi blend...Gumboot wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 9:00 pmYeah, it's rubbish. Until then.. The Aotearoa Rugby Pod isn't too bad...

I watch that most weeks now. I skip though most of the 'interview with an AB' though, apart from the Tamaiti Williams one. I find James Parsons and Bryn Hall offer a refreshing mix of insider insights without ego. Parsons is surprisingly analytical. It's a good show.
Same. Some AB player interviews are a bit bland (as one would expect), but Parsons and Hall are very good value.Guy Smiley wrote: ↑Thu Aug 31, 2023 2:42 amI watch that most weeks now. Is Parsons involved in coaching at all? Feels like he should be. They both offer good insight because a lot of their knowledge comes from talking with players/coaches rather than getting their info from journalists as the Breakdown mob seem to...Guy Smiley wrote: ↑Thu Aug 31, 2023 2:42 amI watch that most weeks now. It's very good. I listen to it every week. Andy Goode is excellent, but Jim Hamilton is the star and very funny.
The host Andy Rowe is normally more back seat. He's also got another pod he does on his own, The Andy Rowe Show.
Oh it's them! Yes I have heard them before... didn't know this guy was part of that... I like Andy Goode but Jim Hamilton reminds me too much of Haskell...
I was surprised how intelligent he speaks, so just his spelling that's an issue I guess (after david and all that)
I like him much more now, he seems sound. I didn't dislike him before though.
I also thought he was to the manor born but his path to pro rugby wasnt that straight forward. Surprised by that.

Yeah he has usually come across pretty well. Apart from his secret sex in toilets affair... seems a sound bloke.
I forgot about that... might explain why he has such a sweet pass... gonna miss Smith.. only a few games left with the All Blacks...
