Looked like a team who needed a warm up game tbh - too many new faces who didn't play in any warm up games. How did we manage to win that against Dragons who were on top for all of the first half? They can only get better, surely?Yr Alban wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2023 4:35 pmAgreed (I’ve just watched the second half back now). Boyle made a huge difference at the breakdown. Generally Edinburgh in the last 20 were miles ahead of where they had been in the first 60. The Dragons still butchered a couple of decent chances though. Overall, a vastly unconvincing display from Embra, but it’s an away win and I’d have bitten your hand off for that at HT. Edinburgh were losing the gainline battle all the way through the first half but Boyle made a couple of great turnovers that stopped any Dragons momentum. I thought the replacement props were much better than the Dragons replacements too.

Looking at the positives for Edinburgh:
- Healy seemed to settle well.
- Held them to 3 points for last 50-60min
- Won
- Bench had some impact.
- Scotland players who have had very little game time got minutes in their legs. Healy particularly has played very little rugby through the warm ups and RWC.

Was it Finn that was charged down for Christies try?Simian wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2023 5:00 pmIt was a good game. I thought Redpath was excellent. Finn's offload for the first Bath score was about as good as you'll see and I thought he generally played pretty well. But he also made some sloppy errors. Will be interesting to see if Bath keep going with playing a big lump at 12.inactionman wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2023 4:44 pmAbsolutely disgusting pass by Russell for De Glanville's walk-in:

Bizzarely, I was fairly confident throughout the match. For once, it wasn't that they did not look like they knew how to win the match, just that their execution was somewhere between poor and terrible.Yr Alban wrote: ↑Sat Oct 21, 2023 4:35 pmAgreed (I’ve just watched the second half back now). There were far too many new combinations and unfamiliar players exemplified by Scott at 15, where he has never played before. To me they looked like they'd be OK once they'd settled and stopped making so many mistakes. The fringes of th eplayer pool has certainly been strengthened by that game.
The ST had Healy as playing almost god like, which seemed a bit strange given most of the comments on the game on hereBig D wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 9:15 am Looking at the positives for Edinburgh:

Can’t bear to watch another Scottish team capitulation to Leinster. Because it’s almost certainly what’s going to happen. It’s the equivalent of Hearts v Celtic today (well, apart from Leinster being an actual real Irish team, that is)
Edit: this was possibly the worst timed post in NPR history

It's the shock of seeing a game managing 10 at Edinburgh. Edinburgh were dire in the first half but Healy was at least making good decisions.Slick wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 3:30 pmThe ST had Healy as playing almost god like, which seemed a bit strange given most of the comments on the game on hereBig D wrote: ↑Sun Oct 22, 2023 9:15 am Looking at the positives for Edinburgh:

Agreed. I’m surprised and not a little delighted. As may have been clear from my previous poorly timed post, I fully expected them to lose.
OK, I’m sure it was a weakened Leinster side and a pretty strong Glasgow. But we keep getting told how alarmingly good Leinster’s reserves are, and the conveyor belt, and we’ve seen our teams beaten by second string Irish sides before, so I’ll take it.

Pretty decent way to spend a Sunday afternoon
Watching Glasgow beating Leinster ( albeit a Leinster shorn of a good number on first team players ) in a dry, but cold Scotstoun was vey satisfying.
Sure , a typical first season game, so plenty of stuff to work on
However ,as with all Franco’s teams, each player know their role, and the graft and effort were all there , even if some of the execution wasn’t.
It’s great watching some of the attacking rugby on display, The pop pass from the Sillerton loon that is Gregor Brown to Seba coming in at speed was pure classic Glasgow – reminiscent of Peter Horne/DTH, the timing and the speed make it a thing of beauty.
Probably the most pleasing was the defensive sets in both halves from Glasgow when Leinster were knocking on the door. I see Shuggie was awarded MOTM – and he certainly put in some defensive shift.
Great to see Horne Jnr get the 100 mark capping it with a fine try – nice also to see Franco acknowledging Scrappie’s performance.
(Nice to see the older warrior Sean Lamont in the crowd)
Onto Galway next , be interesting to see how Franco rotates the team for that one

Watching it on TV, it struck me that Glasgow were playing like a mid-season team already - lots of combinations working decently, good connections across the pitch, clarity about the game plan - and that with a number of players on the pitch who did not do the pre-season with the Warriors. Bodes well for the next few games, I think they're ahead of the curve. Although teams like Connacht will have been able to train with almost their entire team as they did not have massive numbers at the WC.
Embra have Lions at home, Leinster away, Connacht at home and Bulls at home. If everyone is fit, bar those already named as not available, then I go as strong as possible for Lions and Bulls, mix it up for Connacht and take what coming in Dublin, resting the international players.
I'm sure I read the Irish players are on a 3 week enforced stand down. I'd go all out v Leinster if that's the case.Tichtheid wrote: ↑Wed Oct 25, 2023 12:07 pm

I can see the logic in that, however, given the last regular fixture this season is on the 1st of June ‘24, my preference would be to target the home games and a few winnable away ones in order to manage the players over such a long period

I agree. Edinburgh's role in the URC essentially is to increase the chances of a Glasgow home semi by taking points off of top-4 hopefuls. They are duty-bound to go all out against Leinster and can then muck about against their fellow no-hopers, as per the last decade or so.Jock42 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 25, 2023 12:10 pmI'm sure I read the Irish players are on a 3 week enforced stand down. Remaining permutations for Scotland Women ahead of the final round of WXV 2:
I don't really understand this competition, haven't we won all our games so shouldn't just winning against Japan be enough? Or are we not playing every team in the group so it will come down to points difference and we might not even play the winners?topofthemoon wrote: ↑Thu Oct 26, 2023 12:39 pm Remaining permutations for Scotland Women ahead of the final round of WXV 2:
Great idea to split the competition into these 3 groups, just not clear on the format even having watched the video.

The difference from when I last saw them is staggering, they looked completely clueless in the past and second best at every aspect of the game.
Completely opposite out there today !
well done to the ladies. I thoroughly enjoyed that !

Just turned on the Glasgow game, just in time to watch Connacht awarded possibly the most mystifying scrum penalty I’ve ever seen. Glasgow clearly have the stronger pack. Several scrums, shunting Connacht back. Win a free kick, decide to scrum again. Connacht scrum disintegrates. Ref blows - penalty Connacht.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
The ref also missed a really blatant deliberate knock on by Glasgow so we can't complain too much.Yr Alban wrote: ↑Sat Oct 28, 2023 2:44 pm Just turned on the Glasgow game, just in time to watch Connacht awarded possibly the most mystifying scrum penalty I’ve ever seen. Glasgow really do seem to be doing everything they can to lose this game.
