So in the UK, pubs now shut at 10, and guidelines will have rule of law.

Also, the police will be able to call on the military for assistance - bit of a throwaway line but I'm not sure what that actually means. Any ideas?

If past experience of political power grabs and throwaway mentions is anything to go by, something nasty lurking in a sub-clause.

Good to know you can't catch covid after 2200.

The police have always been able to call on the military.

Some more working from home and then going to the pub until 10pm should halt this not second wave in it's tracks.

It would be nice to have a bit of detail on that. I mean, the armed forces were heavily involved in running the testing for a while I think, and they are generally much more capable of going in and setting things up quickly (e.g. field hospitals). But it was the way in which it was just very quickly mentioned as an aside which was a bit disturbing.

Looks like the statements are going to be very short this evening. Boris Johnson scheduled at 8 pm, Nicola Sturgeon at 8.05

Yeah, but it's not 32 million separate customers, it's the same people going back multiple times.

No harm, no foul as long as they "apologize" though...
A Conservative MP has apologised after he was pictured on a train without a face covering by another passenger.

Danny Kruger, MP for Devizes, was pictured without a face covering on a train service running from Hungerford to Paddington on Friday.

The passenger uploaded the image onto Twitter, where it has gained over 4,000 likes and 13,000 retweets, writing: "Don't blame it on the young people Boris when your own party aren't even following your rules."

In a statement, Mr Kruger, who was first elected to represent the Wiltshire constituency last year, said: "I boarded an almost empty carriage at Hungerford and quite simply forgot to put on my mask.

"When I got to Paddington I realised my mistake and covered up for the rest of my journey.

Testing and tracing has very little or nothing to do with the spread or the transmission of the disease. The spread and the transmission of the disease is caused by contact between human beings and all the things that we are trying to minimise.

@BenPBradshaw asks why Germany and Italy have a lower death rates than the UK

@BorisJohnson replies: "There is an important difference between our country and many other countries around the world and that is that our country is a freedom loving country”
So the misguided notion that you love "freedom" more than someone else will increase the likelihood that Covid will kill you?

😂😂😂😂

Told the truth.

It’s a fucking virus. It’s most likely going to follow normal virus distribution and patterns. Get used to it.

Right it kills the elderly.

Here’s 10 billion directly to the care sector to see if you can successfully shield the vulnerable. If it isn’t enough tell us quickly and we will double it.

Have you seen any indication of an enforcement role? Isn’t it the stated intention that the army will assist police with their guarding role at parliament, power stations etc. to free up police resources?

No, I ignored it as a standard knee jerk reaction. People have said they were unclear what role the army might have so I was just exploring what we, collectively, might have heard.

No worries UP. Personally I think Boris is just spouting bullshit Trump-style because he heard someone recently talk about “bringing in the Army in to sort this out “

It was also a Bookface topic a few days ago according to my wife.

Maybe, I fairly sure if we’d given the care sector what would have seemed unlimited funds in March we would have saved 25,000 deaths and 300 billion quid.
